Jfood hits Coalhouse Pizza (Stamford) - Very good pie, great potential
The Red Hook "dough man," said one of the owners, is in fact a former partner in Anselmo's. He also deploys that dough in a dessert topped with grapes and spiced gorgonzola:

I could stand another one of those.

Cherry Hill Gourmet market, Sheepshead Bay
Late this summer I stopped in with a friend, only after we'd been eating here and there for several hours, and I couldn't manage more than a beverage. However, Cherry Hill (which also has at least one other branch, near King's Highway) is very impressive. My first thought, as yet to be supported by in-depth eating, is that it rivals M&I International Foods in the breadth and quality of its offerings, with the advantage of many more young, bilingual counter staff who are happy to explain what's what.

Wat Buddhathai (Elmhurst)
I've posted it, once more with feeling, in my weekly events roundup:

Apart from the date, which I saw on a flyer during a visit to the temple itself and confirmed with several lay visitors who spoke English, I know no more.

Street food: Point me to something new
My article on five street-food vendors who have followers, but not on Twitter, appears in the October 21, 2009 edition of The New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/21/din...
Although this Chow thread didn't introduce me to any of the vendors in the final story, I appreciate the many houndish suggestions, and the good eats I found along the way. Thanks to all!

HUNAN HOUSE--brief report
The braised tofu was very silky, and good of that sort, but more intriguing was the celery with shredded dry bean curd:

Truth be told, I think it was me who cleaned both serving plates.

Taste Good (82-18 45th Ave., Elmhurst, Queens) would be my first choice for Malaysian. You could also try Curry Leaves (135-31 40th Rd., Flushing, Queens). Visit Curry Leaves before noon and you can find an assortment of kueh at the counter; kaya is usually on offer even late in the day. A visit to Flushing also makes it easy to pay a call on the vendors at the Golden Mall (41-28 Main St.).

I don't know that you can. You may need to have it shipped, say, by the folks at Briarhill Farms:

I took my medicine, I think
The thin amber broth didn't have a complex flavor, and it wasn't as concentrated as you might first imagine upon seeing that the serving bowl is also the cooking container, and that all the ingredients had been sealed in under foil.

I took my medicine, I think
There was something in the soup that my tablemate struggled to explain, and that could have been a pitted jujube, softened by long cooking. She said it was fine to eat, and I did, learning nothing by it.
I don't know the name of this place, but you'll find it inside 41-40 Main St., first stall on the left. On my first visit, an assistant (apparently, and not the proprietor) managed to convey that the owner is from Shaanxi province.

I took my medicine, I think
On a recent visit to Flushing, my tablemate (who was practicing her English) explained that my chicken-goji berry-herb soup was good for "renal" conditions. She added, herself and on behalf of the owner, that all the value was in the broth and that the chicken meat (grayish and unphotogenic) is not eaten. Based on the attached photos, of a poster outside the shop and of some menu items (I ordered the fifth), can anyone tell me more?

Any info on Chuseok Korean Festival at CITI FIELD?
On my way to the Vendys, near the Unisphere, I had a look at the festival across the tracks, where it enclosed the parking lot immediately to the west of Citi Field. From on high, it seemed small compared with last year's festival in Flushing Meadows Corona Park (and it wasn't in a park, always a more pleasant setting). About 6:45, when the Vendy winners had been announced, I walked over to take a look at the Korean event, but it was already closed for the day; Sunday's hours will be the same,11:30-6:00.
BTW, there was a similar but much smaller event today, continuing tomorrow (Sunday, September 27, 2009), 2:00-5:00, at the Korean Methodist Church and Institute, 633 West 115th St., in Manhattan. "Fried chicken, California roll, cake, tteokbokki" and several photo-only items are promised on the flyer, which I spotted only an hour ago; good thing I sucked it up and went for an evening run.

New in Flushing: M&T Restaurant - A Taste of Qingdao
I'm two days behind on editing photos (I'll get to M&T tomorrow), so I don't deserve seconds, not yet, but I sure wish I had another basket of that shrimp-battered pork to go with my beer.

Comfort food can make adults act like such children. Tell me if this doesn't sound immature: Three grown men dismiss the idea when I order dessert, then when it arrives, grab their spoons and eat half my peanut butter and jelly cupcake.
Good biscuits, too; wish they were offered by the basket.

Columbia University Area; best chinese food (delivery)?
Columbia Cottage, on Amsterdam and 111 next to the Hungarian Pastry Shop, is not known for its waitperson service, so delivery would sidestep that issue. The food can be quite good, or less good -- I'd lean toward the Sichuan rather than Shanghai dishes -- perhaps because, reportedly, they have different chefs on different nights. What night would be a good night, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the lead. Even though they were sold out of the poppy seed buns (which gave me leave to make one other tweak, swapping out the usual yellow mustard for their spicy housemade New Orleans style), that's a good Chicago dog. I'd want to try the all-classic version, though, before I'd consider it the equal of the Shack-cago. The El Paso Texas Meal Dog sounds great, too.

Roma’s Ice Cream Store
I haven't visited in four years, and my blog doesn't note what brand of paletas they stocked, but they did have quite the variety. At the time, I didn't take a close look at their ice cream, but even if Roma's falls short, Timmy O's and The Lemon Ice King of Corona are just a short walk away.

Boston-area chow that's difficult to find in New York
I'm headed north for a four-to-five-day weekend, this weekend. I've already planned excursions to Lowell, Lynn, and Revere for Cambodian (and a little Lao), and I've scoured the Boston and New England boards for recommendations. I've also noted a Cape Verdean joint down in Dorchester (perhaps out of the way for this visit), as well as the Karo's cart (perhaps only ostensibly Armenian, but easy to get to). I'll leave room as always for Rhode Island-style calamari; it's too early for Indian pudding, I reckon.
What else is notable in the Boston area that's absent from the New York food scene? To expand the discussion, what's found in both cities but is outright better up north? If you make "better in Boston" suggestions, please also supply specifics on your points of comparison in New York. Thanks to all, in advance.

Street food: Point me to something new
Thanks, all!
I was hoping to hear about trucks and carts rather than stands set up outside their brick-and-mortar motherships, but I had a look at the Union St. H-Mart anyhow. On a Thursday, shaved ice was pretty much it, though many other vacant stalls still awaited the weekend. Whether these vanish with the warmer weather, I don't know.
I hit the Schnitzel & Things truck when it hit Manhattan, by which time it was no longer a denizen of the undiscovered country. The sides are small, but that's some nice cod schnitzel:

East Harlem food/walking tour?
Cafe Ollin's carne enchilada cemita (photo attached) is terrific, too, but as big o advises, be sure to share; you might even ask for it to be cut in quarters. As for the papalo: If you're unfamiliar with this Mexican herb, go light or hold it altogether, or you may find yourself tasting it repeatedly throughout your tour.
