In my experience, v-mail & e-mail are not always received -- usually messages make it through all the filters, but sometime not. Per the restaurant is merely trying to confirm you actually received the voice message they left?

Reminds me of the time my dear departed MIL inserted a custom CD recorded by a family friend into what she thought was the CD plsyer slot -- not! Hubby took jammed player back to Costco with no receipt & no original packaging & his mom's tale of woe. Not only did they replace the player but managed to recover and return the unique CD to her!!
I'm a fan of Costco service.

Don't think Merritt has fried okra - usually run of the mill steamed veggies. Haven't been in for a couple years -- used love the 2 pieces of fried chicken & waffle.

For the holidays, DH buys from Costco and dry-ages in our 2nd refrig. . . uses a remote thermometer to moniter temperatures. Works really well!

If their small parking lot behind the restaurant is full, we frequently drop off passengers and then park our car in the lot at West Marine, just a short block east of Webster Street. It's a former Safeway occupying the block bounded by Pacific Avenue, Concordia Street, Buena Vista Avenue, and Constitution Way

In the warehouse. Ask for them as what is displayed is letter-sized cardboard with a barcode, which is exchanged at the checkout for the actual See's gift certificates.

No,silly, I don 't think they squeeze year-round, but that's a different discussion.

Yeah, once we went 10 months without an oven cuz we blew it up glazing the New Years Day ham. Grilled a lot on the Weber using direct & indirect heat (hubby used a torch to caramelize things, if needed). Finally had to break down & get oven repaired so we could host family Christmas -- 11 months later.

Wintermelon soup served in the whole melon is usually an advance-ordered order item (the carved melon can be very elaborate and beautiful). So as CTG says above, just call ahead to your favorite "banquet" restaurant to check cost and if winter melon is still in season (May may be getting to be a bit late).

Mom always had a pot of homemade chicken stock on the stove. So I got that with wonton dumplings filled with shrimp, pork, mushrooms & waterchestnuts. Plus I had to finish off a qt. of pineapple-grapefruit or apple juice every 4 hours.

VerBrugge used to have their own fishing boat, but that may not still be the case. Does anyone else remember the big brick crab cooker that used to be in their front window area? They removed it to extend the meat case.

Inexpensive near Union Square with difficult people
I managed to have a reasonable lunch at The Cheese Cheesecake Factory on Good Friday. Not my 1st choice restaurant but the Firecracker Salmon appetizer with red cabbage slaw was tasty. Of course, the Long Island Iced Tea (also not my 1st choice) and reconnecting with good friends bore some responsibility.

SF prices can be a hard on out-of-towers. Sometimes I just have to "man up" and go with the group choice; being a fellow tourist with good folk usually ends well. Good luck with yours!
