Good eats in Rancho Cucamonga?

Quel dommage- Cafe Provencal is gone- replaced by - what else?- a sushi place.

Foraging In The Wilderness - Johnny Carino's

I can't agree more- the Carinos near Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga is no better. It was dismally appointed, more of a "mafiosi" theme that "Italian country Inn" theme they seek to put over. The food was dismal and I have not been back. Try Antoninos in Rancho for some good Italian, or Rosa's in Ontario or go out to Loma Linda to Napoli- now THERE's some good eats.

Sushi quest in the Inland Empire? Is there any hope?

A new, and for my money, excellent sushi place is Sushi Umi on the northwest corner of Benson and Foothill in Upland. Good service, good prices and great service. It's in the little strip mall west of the gas station/carwash. They have a good selection of premium sakes if you're into that sort of thing. Priced between $7 and $15 for most dishes. sushio and regular Japanese dining. The nabeyaki is pretty good, as are the gyoza.

Good Eats in Upland?

Theres a new Japanese/Sushi place that is pretty good- a cut above the average places that seem to be popping up like weeds in this area- Sushi Umi on the northwest corner of Benson and Foothill in Upland- We enjoyed it and the prices and service are good. Sorry to post four years too late for your training for your assault on Whitney

Unique place between Pasadena & Ontario

I like Walters in Claremont. They're on Yale Street in the Village of Claremont. they have a very broad menu and a wine list . Inside and outside dining.

Restaurants you will defend no matter what anybody says...

I loved the Stinking Rose- have been there twice...but maybe being a garlic devotee made it more like a pilgrimage to Mecca than merely "dining out." True, the prices are a bit higher than other places, but this is THE Temple of Garlic.

Food Quests

I am on a quest for the perfect:
1. Roast Duck (Peking or a l'Orange)
2. Linguine with clams or calimari
3. Oyster Stew
4. Eggplant Parmesan
4. Scotch- so far its "Pinch"

Eating in SF Chinatown

Next time, try Hunan Home's at 711 Jackson. The best food, service, menu..and kid friendly. The larger your party the better.

Portugese food or Sangria in San Diego?

Too bad this answer is five years too late, but the definitive Portuguese place in San Diego is PORTUGALIA in Ocean Beach. There is a Portuguese market on the first floor and the restaurant upstairs. It is MAGNIFICENT Service is personal- the chef /owner counseled us on our choices, and there is live music of all kinds on various days of the week. Look it up in the phone book. I cant remember the address, but they do have a web site you can google.

Inland Empire Dining ( or lack of )

My favorites for the Inland Empire...

NAPOLI ITALIAN RESTAURANT in Loma Linda on Redlands Blvd just west of Anderson (Tippecanoe). You have to look closely- it's in a mini mall. They had, among many others, Calimari Pizza at lunch one day- can you ask for more than THAT ? They'll make it for you even if it is not on the menu. The place is elegant but very moderately priced. Good service and very friendly folks. Nice wine list.

and...KEN'S JAPANESE on Foothill in Rancho Cucamonga, between Archibald and Hermosa. Very good Japanese and better than average sushi. It is WAY better than it looks from the outside.

Early morning cafe in San Fran

Try Crossroads Cafe on Delancy near Brennan. They may not be open at 5am though- that's a lot to ask in SF.
