I'm based in Cambridge MA. So they ones that I follow and enjoy are Trinas Starlight Lounge, Tupelo and Lord Hobo. I like that they are consistent with posting daily specials and events.bthey also don't overdo the cutesy banter. Not a restaurant, but I also enjoy New Deal (a fish market) because they post when seasonal seafood is avaliable and also recipes. I stopped following two because one consistently posts only in a foreign language that I don't know and the other because off all the cutesy banter.
"New on Chow"--please warn us if the link leads to a video!
Same here. I don't even bother clicking on them anymore.
West Bridge - Kendall Square
When we seated the waitress asked if there were any allergies or if anyone was a vegetarian. I wonder if we said yes would they have prepared veggie friendly dishes that aren't on the menu.

Thanks for looking. Its one of those where I can't remember the name of the recipe, i think it is on a thread about different ways to cook chicken or cooking for a crowd and I cant remember the year it was started or whom by. I have been able to try to duplicate it, but cant get it right.
And I would also like to add jfoods salmon croquettes (please lets not rehash the authenticity debate and what makes a croquette). Part of our regular rotation as a cheap way to get more fish in our diet.
Thank you to all hounds who have shared your recipes.
"Relaxing weekend with food by a pond? Suggestions for accommodations near good food?" has been moved
Or at least leave it on Boston and split off the part of the discussion that led it south.

Yeah, its never fun when you are the only nondrinker surrounded by loud opinionated drunks. I figured that the least I owe the restaurant for the seven comped Small plates is a positive Chowhound review. I truly appreciated it and I give them mad props for the way it was handled. We had already asked for the check for the round of drinks and calamari with the intention to go across the courtyard when the manager offered to bring us "their best dishes" because he didn't want us to leave hungry.

Funny it was the lack of bread (though clearly written on menu that it is requestable) that lead my drunk waitress of five years dining companion to lecture the waitress and her manager. Also she assumed that it would be large enough for six of us to share and felt that the waitress should have clearly explained that we would need more food (even though the waitress repeatedly asked if we wanted anything else).
Those radishes toasts were also very tasty, though I wish that the mushrooms were more evenly distributed. Some had none and others had a lot. Definately a good value. I'm looking forward to stopping by after work for a coupled small plates and a glass of wine. And I encourage anyone who orders the duck terrine to not overlook the chutney on the plate. Unfortunately it wasn't until the last bite did someone think to smear some on the toast with the terrine. According to him it completely transformed it from great to excellent.

Grandmamas Orange Cake posted by Tehama
I cant find the thread, but someone posted a recipe called Devil/reviled Drumsticks. Marinade chicken legs, rubbed with mustard wine pasted and breaded then baked.

My dining companions. Thankfullly it was my last meal out with one of the couples. But the manager Patrick handled it well as did our waitress. And although I felt guilty eating the comped food I did enjoy it.
Surpisingly all the yelp reviews are on point. I wish it was a little less expensive and the portions a little bigger, but I do intend to return. And it is a great addition to Kendall 1.

Small plate $7-$14
Entrees $20+
Entrees to share $40+
Bad dining experience there, but excellent customer service and enjoyed the food. Highlight was the pig head (described as being like a head cheese cake) and the duck terrine. Low point was the calamari.
5/16/12 Chez Henri: A Talented Chef is Still Talented
Nope, the groupon only excluded alcohol. And they had no way of knowing if the groups planed to use groupon. Exactly, it comes down to $. I would think that on a cold mid week evening they would rather have occupied tables instead of a basically empty dining room.

I enjoyed our post lecture dinner at the bar this past winter. Cubano didn't live up to the hyper but was still tasty. I bought another groupon to use there.
I just don't get why they don't serve bar menu in dining room or at least add the cubano to that menu. Even sitting in the bar side we had to ask for the bar menu since they only gave us the dinner. Since the bar side was packed and only one table occupied on the dining, I was surprised by the number of people who walked out after being told that they could only order off bar menu at the bar. Just seemed odd.
Still lovin' Sofra
Love sofra, hate the campers and table savers. Just means we only get morning buns to go and not a complete breakfast.
When yogurt separates - mix it in or drain it?
Yeah I just saw it on a small fruit on the side container. If I get the honey one I like to stir it, but the fruit ones I like to scoop and dip.
Foods you dislike buying—but sometimes need to
Wash it, chop and put in the freezer. Of course you can be like me and intend to do this but instead forget about it and let it wilt/go slimy. Same with basil and cilantro.
Super Taster Columns- why only videos now?
Yup. I don't even bother clicking on the Stories below anymore because I got sick of all the videos. Oh well.
Best brand of "slice and bake" cookies?
Since time might be an issue and slice and bake could get expensive, do you have a bakery nearby that you can just purchase from? Just wanted to remind you of another option that will give you have more time for other things.
Beantown Taqueria
Those tortillas, the late hours and price makes me very happy that they are in Central. First time I went (the weekend they openned) I was a little dissapointed because the meat tasted pretty dry to me. But it was a weird time and I think that the food had been sitting. Second trip it was better. Im happy to see that it is busy when i pass by. I want to try the breakfast items next.
May 2012 Openings and Closings
This post inspired me to give Voltage another chance today. Got a latte and walked down to Tatte (around 430ish) for a snack. Jam brioche was very good. I like that they have little butter cookies for 25(?) cents each. Those nut tarts look like little works of art. Almost too pretty to eat.
Small Plate dinner for Memorial Day Weekend
I think I have come up with my food itinerary:
Friday if the weather isn't conducive to grilling we will go to Za, Area Four or somewhere in Inman
Saturday either Yankee lobster (or KO Pies) and Harpoon tour, Russell House (or somewhere in Harvard Sq) and Harvard museums or somewhere in Inman (or KO Pies) and Museum of Science
Saturday night will be Kika and wander around Kendall and Central aftr
Sunday will be either ECG for brunch or Friendly Toast for breakfast (depending on when they depart).
Thanks for the help
Small Plate dinner for Memorial Day Weekend
Thanks. Unfortunately I don't think the bf will want to venture out that far (because Waltham is soo far) this time. But I'm always looking for places to try on our weekend wanders.
Small Plate dinner for Memorial Day Weekend
Ill have to show the bf the menu for taberna. Its within walking distance or a short bus ride for us. And its probably easier for the friends of our guests to meet up with us after. Its a shame that the sox are in town that weekend. Might just go to Kika and stay in the Kendall area and avoid the fans.
Small Plate dinner for Memorial Day Weekend
That's kind of the impression that I got of Dali. Kind of why Cuchi Cuchi is also off the list (along with price).
When we ate at m+c all four of us had problems sleeping because we kept waking up to grab glasses of water. Too many places to try before going back to a place were we had a bad meal. Plus don't want to deal with parking in Boston on a holiday weekend.
Does either taberna or estragon fall under the $50 per person and have easy parking (preferably free)?
Seperate Checks?
Yup read it. But you assume everyone else will/did. Just pointing out that asking for seperate checks at anytime can still cause conflict. A lot of times we will get asked by the waitstaff if we want seperate checks at the end of the meal and not just at the beginning.
Seperate Checks?
Not so if you wait until the end of the meal to ask for one. Could cause more conflict. Though next time we are out with the couple who leaves a twenty no matter what they order i am tempted to do that. Just to see their reaction.
Foods Most Eaten
I do eat other things throughout the day and other meals but these are the constants:
Breakfast
Yogurt
Granola
strawberries
Banana
Second breakfast
saltines
apple
Cashew butter
Dinner
Broccoli
String beans
Snack
popcorn
Seperate Checks?
But was it based on being in Boston or that you were poor students? It seems that from reading these boards its is more a poor student/mooching friends/uneven incomes that lead to the splitting of checks and not the geographical location of the chowhound. I wasn't aware that there are regions of the country where splitting checks is unheard of or where the default is split checks.
Seperate Checks?
I dont think its a region lthing. I just thinks its how your social group interacts. I Wouldn't expect seperate checks unless requested. Have you ever asked for seperate checks? When we sit at the bar we frequently get seperate checks without asking. But unless we ask we rarely get seperate checks when eating in the non bar area.
Seperate Checks?
Why do you think it was a breach of restaurant etiquette?
In my experience the only time that I thought etiquette was breached was on a company trip where they were trying to woo us into moving. The "host" asked for seperate for all the tables and then asked who would cover the table that we were at because we were to lowest ranked and couldn't expense.
If you read a lot of the etiquette threads the most common response in "next time get seperate checks".
Usually its because someone doesn't want to pay more than their share or because they fear that their dining companion isn't a good Tipper.
Shake Shack Coming to Chestnut Hill
I love that on Boston.com it is followed by the article " finding the solution to the obesity epidemic".
Ill give a try, but unlike Sonic I don't have a great need to go asap.
