Restaurants near Ed Mirvish theatre - child-friendly and vegetarian-friendly!

I know, right?

Here are some places I'm looking at...some of them I've been to before but without a kid so I'm not sure how kid-friendly they'd be? Any help with that? Some of them are pubs so I don't know...some pubs are totally kid-friendly and others are not, y'know?

Worse comes to worse, maybe we'll just go to Le Commesal. I don't like their food much and am annoyed they're no longer fully veg, but at least it's quick....hmm.

Restaurants near Ed Mirvish theatre - child-friendly and vegetarian-friendly!

Meeting up with my sister and her teenaged kids for dinner before they go to see the Wizard of Oz, and I'm trying to figure out somewhere for dinner that's reasonably priced and won't be insanely busy at 5:30pm on a Friday. It's not an area in which I normally go out for dinner, so I'm at a bit of a loss for ideas.

The main issues being that it needs to be vegetarian (dairy ok, fish is not) friendly AND be accommodating for a toddler (i.e. it doesn't have to have crayons and a kid's menu, but it should have a high chair and servers/customers who aren't going to give my kid dirty looks for existing in their space).

Thanks in advance!

Group near the Holiday Inn in Yorkville

Looking for recommendations for a group of 26 near the Holiday Inn on Bloor. Up to 15ish minutes away by cab is ok. The group is mostly international, from all over the world, and the budget is around $35/person not including drinks....

Birthday party food (vegetarian)

Hi all - planning my baby's first birthday party menu. We're hosting around 25 people plus a few kids in our apartment, starting at 3pm. So we're thinking light finger foods, obviously. We're vegetarian (not vegan) so the food will be as well. Here's what we've got so far:

Vegetarian "meat"balls in sauce (my dad's recipe, very easy, will sit in a crock pot)
Samosas (purchased from the place down the street)
Cut up veggies
2-3 dips (maybe a homemade white bean garlic dip, some kind of layered tex-mex type dip, and maybe hummus)
tortilla chips or pita chips or something like that (purchased)
Maybe a big bowl of goldfish crackers or something for the kiddos

(and we'll have cupcakes or something obviously)

Other suggestions? We want to avoid making too much at home, but stuff that can be made in advance would be great. And it needs to be ok served at room temperature since we don't have any chafing dishes or anything.

vegetarian lunch for 12 including picky kids?

Thanks so much for all the replies! I especially love the soup buffet and DIY potato bar ideas. Yum! Not sure what we're doing as of yet, but these are really great, thank you!!!

(and to answer the q's, yes we eat dairy/eggs and indeed it is still pretty chilly here!).

vegetarian lunch for 12 including picky kids?

Looking for ideas for a lunch. My family is coming over to my apartment this weekend. The group will include:
-a couple of family members who prefer things to be 'fancy'
-5 kids, ages 6-14, including 2 picky eaters
-my wife and I are vegetarian, and I don't want to cook or serve meat
-My wife's allergic to mushrooms
-also, my wife and I aren't super into cooking, and we have a 10 month old so would prefer things that could be prepared ahead of time or something

So we kind of want to make maybe one or two things and buy the rest. I was thinking something fun like 'build your own taco' but maybe something a bit more interesting than that.

Any suggestions? We live in downtown Toronto so have access to basically any kind of catering/bakery/grocery/whatever.

Vegetarian delivery?

Looking for new ideas for places that have a decent selection of vegetarian (as in - no fish sauce/etc) foods that deliver? Getting a bit tired of the same old pizza and indian food, and always a bit hesitant to try new asian places unless I know the sauces are actually veg....

Living at Parliament and Carlton.

Menu for a brunch fingerfood party?

Not to be snarky, but it is definitely absolutely going to be vegetarian. Many of the people attending will be vegetarian, and those that aren't can absolutely not eat meat for one afternoon.

Maybe we'll consider adding a something with beans.

Menu for a brunch fingerfood party?

Thanks for the feedback! This is really helpful.

Does anyone have a sense of how much of everything we should plan for?

Was thinking muffins OR pastries OR croissants - sorry if that wasn't clear. probably mini-croissants.

Latkes OR maybe some other kind of potato thing? The plan is finger foods, so that's why we were thinking latkes.

Something else? Some kind of salad? Any other suggestions?

Is there something you think would be better than the latkes maybe since theyll be a bit heavy?

The quiches we're ordering from a restaurant, so I think they're going to have have crusts...

It'll be all vegetarian.

Yes, the dip will be something vegan since there will be one or two vegans in attendance as well.

Menu for a brunch fingerfood party?

Looking for input about quantities (and options) for a vegetarian brunch fingerfood party. It'll be held at around 1pm or 2pm, so the idea isn't that it's a full meal necessarily, but good food that'll fill people up sufficiently! It's for a baby shower.

How much of each? Any other suggestions or anything that doesn't sound like a good idea? It needs to be stuff that can be eaten without a table primarily. We'll have a couple of tables maybe but mostly fingerfoods.

For around 30-40 people, plus about 10 kids under the age of 10.

-deviled eggs OR mini quiches?
-bagels/cream cheese
-fruit platter
-muffins/pastries/croissants
-pizza (cut into 'finger sized portions' - this isn't very brunch-like, I know, but a friend owns a pizza shop and offered to provide some pizza gratis!)
-cut up vegetable platter w/ dip
-mini latkes

(and there'll be cupcakes)

(with coffee, tea, mimosas and non-alcoholic punch)

Brunch party - where to get: good platters of croissants/donuts AND a lot of latkes, bagels?

Thanks so much! And I'll definitely make a post about quantities on the general boards once we've figured it all out....

Brunch party - where to get: good platters of croissants/donuts AND a lot of latkes, bagels?

We've tried making latkes ourselves before and it's terrible. Our kitchen is insanely tiny.

Thanks for the other recommendations though!

Brunch party - where to get: good platters of croissants/donuts AND a lot of latkes, bagels?

well...tbd I guess. Not exactly sure how much this stuff *should* cost. Reasonable, but good, y'know? Sure, cheap would be great, but I don't want gross stuff either.

Brunch party - where to get: good platters of croissants/donuts AND a lot of latkes, bagels?

Throwing a (vegetarian) brunch party and we're planning on doing most of the food ourselves (deviled eggs, fruit/veggies, blintzes, frittata) but in the interest of keeping things simple, want to supplement that with a few platters. Thinking a few big platters of croissants/good old-fashioned donuts, a platter of latkes, and a platter of bagels/cream cheeses. Obviously, we probably can't find this all at the same place...we can probably pick these up the day before or the morning of...any thoughts on where to go for any of these things?

Also...does anyone know of any websites where you can figure out how much food you need to feed a certain number of people???

And hey, any other food ideas are welcome! :)

Non-traditional baby shower - fingerfood/cocktail brunch for 40-50?

I've looked through the archives but didn't really find anyone looking for this specifically. I'm looking to host a baby shower, but it'll be a co-ed sort of party thing (with booze). I'm thinking late brunch fingerfood-y cocktails (mimosas!) type of thing, not a sit down thing. On a Sunday I guess.

I'm looking into both venue rentals/caterers (or bringing in food ourselves if I can rally up enough people to cook!) and private party rooms in restaurants....

any suggestions? Location not a big deal - just has to be accessible by transit (and within the Toronto borders - no extra fare required!).

Thanks in advance!

Restaurant that serves good seafood but can also accommodate seafood allergies and vegetarians?

Ok, I know this sounds completely ridiculous. It's a long shot, but I thought it might be worth a try.

I want to take my dad out for dinner for father's day next week (he won't be around on the actual 'official day') and he loves seafood, lobster, etc. The complication is that his wife has a seafood (I guess shellfish) allergy (I have seen her eat at restaurants that serve fish/shrimp). The other complication is that I'm a vegetarian (not a pescetarian).

So.....for the longest of long shots....can anyone think of a restaurant anywhere in the GTA that has decent seafood (his standards aren't high - his favourite restaurant is Red Lobster) that can accommodate seafood allergies and vegetarians? Is this completely impossible?

hmm. I know our staff would enjoy Korean, but the Board is a bit harder to please sometimes (my boss already said no to Japanese food). :(

Apologies - I had a line that said location but I must have deleted it when editing.

Location = downtown, roughly. South of Eglinton, let's say. About half of the guests will be staying in the dundas/spadina area, and I'll arrange a car service for them to get to the restaurant.

I have been again tasked with finding a location for a work dinner, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding anything within our budget ($35/person before drinks/taxes/grat).

Help?

Vegetarian friendly "nice" restaurants outside of Toronto?

So I'm thinking for the upcoming 'romantic/hallmark invented' holiday of renting a car and taking a nice drive outside of the city, then going to a nice-ish restaurant somewhere....

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a restaurant that's outside of Toronto (no more than 3 hours away preferably!) that has good food but isn't insanely expensive, that would be able to accommodate two vegetarians?

We don't often go to "nice" restaurants, as their vegetarian options are usually sub-par!

Bonus points of course if it's somewhere that would be a pretty drive!
