El Rodeo in Chapel Hill - New management?

Does anyone know the story with regards to El Rodeo in Chapel Hill? My girlfriend LD and I went recently, and it was very different from its previous self. All of the old staff appeared to be gone, and the feel was different. The restaurant did have a sort of classic feel with mariachi music and a sort of South-of-the-Borderesque feel, but nicer than that, I don't know how to describe it. But now it feels like they are trying to take it up the scale - nicer looking bar area, trendier-sounding music. The food was different too - LD says the chicken was "weird" compared to what it had been, and her quesadilla was on the whole sub-par.

I hope it was a coincidental misstep. We will give them another shot, but if things don't get better, who knows.

Does anyone know the backstory as to the change in management, and whether it applies to the other iterations of El Rodeo in the Triangle?

birthday dinner in the triangle

Well everyone, thanks for the great tips. I think we are going to try either Piedmont or Elaine's, depending on how far we want to drive, what each is having that night, etc. I'll let you know what we choose and how it goes.

birthday dinner in the triangle

So my girlfriend just gave me my birthday present, which was a nice new saute pan and a nice dinner at the restaurant of my choosing. She has put on a price limit of less than $150 total. Ah, the choices.

We have been to Magnolia Grill and loved it. Been to Angus Barn, liked it too, but not wanting to go back just yet. We like many different styles of food. I am looking for a place where a suit jacket might not be out of line, but a tie would be too much. She lives in Raleigh, I in Carrboro.

Sound off, Fellow Foodies, and thanks for the help.

Delivery in Chapel Hill???....

Well, like everyone has said, there aren't that many options, but there are some...
For Chinese food, I recommend 35 Chinese. There is a sandwich place called Jimmy John's (919-968-SUBS), which is pretty good, cheap, and their delivery is extremely fast. The Pita Pit makes pita wraps, and they are good as well. Their falafel is not my favorite, but it passes. And of course, depending on where you are staying, there could be a place or two that is within walking distance.
Anyway, despite our lack of take out options, here's hoping you enjoy Chapel Hill.

Best Burgers in the Triangle?

Did anyone see Jeopardy last night?

If you did, you saw a contestant, a young man from Durham, declare that his life quest was to find the world's best cheeseburger. Currently atop his list? Sutton's Drugstore on Franklin St.

Now, I actually agree with him. The burgers at Sutton's are unimaginably good; they are made from pretty good quality meat and they are grilled fresh on a grill that has seen its share of students come and go.

But, I was wondering what other people think. What is the best place to get a good ol' burger in the Triangle?

My top three:
1) Sutton's
2) Chargrill
3) Fat Daddy's

Trader Joe's Opening in the Triangle???

I was having lunch in Eastgate the other day and I asked one of the guys doing work on TJ's and he told me he thought TJ's would be opening next Friday, November 30. Plus, while looking in the windows, I saw that many of the shelves were already stocked (excluding frozen, produce, and the like, of course). All this points to confirmation of Nov 30 as a firm date for opening. Get your mind right, Chapel Hill.
