Brighton ave has a concentration of good food.

I have eaten at and enjoyed:

JR West End and Neil's kitchen are 'upscale' burger and sandwich shops. Richards for NY Jewish deli. The renovated Jack's goal line is chick friendly now. The Pezao Brazilian Buffet on Brighton. Late dinning night ,The Ink Well. There are other places I have not tried too.

Homestyle Filipino restaurant and food store. $7 got 2 servings of mostly meat or fish and rice. Simple but enjoyable. They also have a selection of Filipino groceries. They are on W Sylvania in the strip mall near Rt 35 where Daily Needs was.

Swedish couple on their way to the LES, Brooklyn and Queens, pls help!

Official NYC Bicycle map:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bicy...

I suggest you stick to routes on the map as they keep you away from the worst of the traffic problems and dangers. Most bicycle shops in the city have free copies of the map.

The number 7 train runs from Manhattan through Queens. In Queens it is elevated above roof height so you can get a nice view of Queens, assuming you want to view Queens of course. The 7 train stops at various locations like Roosevelt avenue, you can search chowhound for ideas on where to go. Or post on the outer borough message board. Search on "7 train" or Roosevelt ave. You can walk under the tracks back toward Manhattan which might be of interest in the sense that the elevated tracks are about 100 years old.

Ideas on ethnic restaurant Brooklyn (or Queens) to cater a small party.

Caribbean on flatbush near enough to PS, Sugar cane is likely closer to you.

Koha deli 319 Church Ave, Kennsington.

Balkan / Albanian / Halal Deli or market. The smoked beef and sausages were interesting.

Smoked beef was like a steak that was heavily salted and smoked. You actually buy a ready to eat cured steak. It tasted like it was heavily salted and smoked. Kind of like beef jerky only a bit more tender, no flavors or rubs other than salt. Sliced thin I enjoyed it. Like peanuts the saltiness causes a craving for one more slice.

The spicy sausage was interesting, not especially hot it also had a smokey flavor. If you like sausage this is a new style for you to try.

That's all I tried, the store has other meat and canned goods from the Balkan area. The person behind the counter spoke English and was happy to discuss the products being sold.

If you walk down the boardwalk about 1/2mile to 1mile are a series of Russian outdoor cafes. I haven't been there in a while so I am not comfortable recommending any, but they are still there. Call to confirm hours and availability, and maybe check weather reports. Tatiana is one example but I think there are 3 or 4.

M&I International might also be close enough for you. You can either eat at the one of the cafes inside or buy food and eat on the boardwalk. There should be enough veterinarian choices.

2 Days in NYC - What's can't we miss?

You should say where you will be staying as 2 days is not much time so you can't waste it traveling.

vegetarians -
Hari Krishna temple and restaurant http://radhagovinda.net/govinda.html

Jamaican 'Ital' food: Scoops 624 Flatbush Ave, Tofu Ice cream and food store. Buy the food and eat in the park nearby.

Take the #7 elevated train into queens as a kind of amusement park tram ride. Lots of restaurants near stops in queens, not sure about vegeterian.

You should look into posts on pizza.

Probably some vegetarian food cards, look up vendy awards for info

Brooklyn meatball emergency broadcast - help us

Sam's in Cobble Hill might be fun. It has that 70's mafia movie decor. I like the food there. The meatballs taste like beef, there is no attempt at achieving awesomeness with spices and what not.

Best homemade Salami / dried sausage in NYC?

While some may throw a tantrum for suggesting it, the internet can save you time and money. I like Creminelli packed in wax paper. Aux Delices des Bois is vacuum packed, but I don't think they store it for long periods of time before a sale. There are many other brands I have not tried.

OK!!!! Who has the BEST Hot Dogs in Coney Island...... and Knishes?????

Don't they charge $3.50 for a frank. I can't bring myself to pay more than Manhattan prices in Brooklyn. And it's not even on the Boardwalk. I don't mind tourists and the fans of competitive food eating having their fun.

3 nights in NYC

There are more than 3 nights worth of stuff to due so you might specify what else you will be doing.

The street vendor award site might interest you:

Riding the #7 train out to queens, where it is elevated above roof top height, would also be an interesting trip which is convenient from mid town.

Ate at Italian restaurant this weekend and they only offered bottled water - sparkling or flat

Sounds like a great way to keep the small spenders out of your establishment. It would be classier to do a Prix Fixe meal that included any type of water you wanted.

Visiting NYC from CA - need help planning a day trip to the Burroughs!

I suggest 7 train to 82nd street and walk back under the tracks. There are few elevated trains in the world and the stations have a turn of the 20th centry look and sound. There are many places to eat on the street directly under the tracks and the parallel street one block north. I would say just walk and see which places look interesting, have a decent number of local people in them and buy something that sounds good. There are also piles of posts on the area.

Coney Island Ave near Ave J has various kosher places, a few upscale that serve drinks. I am no expert but they looked good from the outside. You should walk down ave J there are a few liquor stores, they might have good ideas for bars.

Where will you be? Spending hours traveling to get 2 slices makes no sense. Fascati is close to the Brooklyn Bridge so that is a plus. You should be more specific on where you will be.

Sunset Park/Brooklyn

Good deli/Jewish food. - Take the B or Q train to Avenue J. Near the station is the infamous DiFara Pizza. Walk to Coney Island Ave to find a collection of Orthodox Jewish food businesses. Please note they are closed Fri sundown to Sat Sundown and do not appreciate immodestly dressed women in their stores (Katz on the other hand does not care how you dress).

Good deli/Jewish food. - 13th ave between New Utrecht and 36th street. B train to New Utrecht or F/G to Church ave. 13ave is the "high street" of the very orthodox Jewish Boro park.

Polish or other Eastern European food,- Greenpoint and Manhattan, G train Greenpoint, is the center of Gravity. Noteworthy is Brighton beach near coney island, look up posts.

American food? Look up BBQ. Michell's Fish and Chips or is it Michell's Soul food on Vanderbilt near the botanical garden and Brooklyn Museum.

There is also Caribbean and South Asian if that is what you want. Plus some Chinese. You can do South American and Chinese in Sunset park as the ethnic areas are close to each other.

7 nights in Brooklyn

? ie. something I would not find in Quebec?

I don't know Quebec.

Brooklyn has a large Caribbean community. An upscale restaurant is http://sugarcanerestaurant.com. Along Flatbush are many smaller establishments. Look up roti and jerk chicken.

There are some southern, soul food, or african american restaurants. try Mitchell Fish & Chips, which while inexpensive is a nice little 'sit down' restaurant, with an excellent tin ceiling if I remember.

Additionally there are many middle eastern along Atlantic Ave. and other places.
Russian/Eastern European at coney island

David's Brisket House might interest you.

There are also South Asia Bangladeshi and Pakistani If that interests you.
