New Fagor with smelly gasket...

I have had my Fagor for over a month now and have used it 10 to 12 times and am pleased with its performance except... .I need some advice about the gasket. Even though I wash it thoroughly after each use it is holding on to old cooking odors. Any suggestions anyone?

What cookbooks have you bought recently, or are you lusting after? September 2013 edition!

Joe Yonan's "Eat Your Vegetables" looks like a good one. I like to check a new cookbook from the library when I can so I can give it a serious look before buying. This has saved me a lot of $ on books that look good at first but really are not ones I will use much

Disappointed by heirloom tomatoes

Without heirlooms we would be stuck with basic supermarket tomatoes which have been developed with an interest in shippability rather than taste. Like apples the varieties seem endless with different maturity times, different tastes and textures. I am all for variety in all fruits and veggies.

Best stainless steel pots & pans set for $200-$250?

I agree. Good stainless steel , a few basic cast iron , and one good quality non stick skillet. A variety of cookware for varied uses.

Problems with cleaning a SS pan set

I have a lot of SS (30 yr old Cuisinart when it was still made in France) and I use baking soda and/or vinegar. A paste of baking soda and water will clean off most things and a spritz of vinegar restores the shine. The residue you have might require several paste scrubs.
