February 2010 Openings and Closings

How many times are they going to try to re-brand before they just close?! Everytime i have eaten there which is 6 or 7 their menu has changed. Ussually they take something off that i really want. I know the neighbors made them abandom the smoker, but they had problems well before that. They have repeatedly changed chefs and menus. If it is a tru locally grown restaurant (which is needed around here) then i would consider trying it, but I probably wont. they have changed too many times... While speaking to the manager a few months back, i warned that if they keep changing the menu, they would lose more and more customers. Its never good when a business fails, but they need to look beyond the food and change the management.

BAGELS

I am partial to Bagel Rising, they have a good variety of whole grain bagels. They also have Tofu spreads (which i'm not into) for people that are looking for a cream cheese alternative.

whats nice in somerville/medford?

Bocelli's on main st in medford is a very good Italian restaurant. I haven't been in a few years but the food was always fresh and tasty. Reasonably priced as well.

North End, Ristorante Fiore

I had an awful experience at Fiore...We were seated relatively quickly on the rooftop where two servers managed to spill drinks on my fiance. After 20 minutes of waiting for our server to come take our drink order we went to speak with the host who was very rude. That was the only time ive ever walked out of a restaurant.

The Audobon

I finally made it to Audobon Circle this past Sunday for brunch and was very impressed. We went around 12:30 and sat right down on the back patio, great atmosphere with the slate top tables surrounded by bamboo. It was not very crowded when we went, which the staff must have been expecting because they had only one cook.

They had a small brunch menu and you could order off the regular menu, which I was very pleased about. I ordered the Cheeseburger with bacon and portabellas. When it FINALLY arrived it was worth the wait. The presentation was superb: A large burger on a fresh looking roll, top off exposing a heaping pile of bacon, three thick slices of tomato, a piece of fresh romaine, a large pile of potatoes, and a nice looking pickle spear. Accompanying my meal I had what appeared to be freshly made ketchup and chili mayonnaise (which was delicious and the highlight of my meal). I was very pleased with the Portobella on the burger, it was actually a full cap cooked to perfection and there was enough bacon so you could actually taste it with every bite. My burger was overcooked, i asked for it medium and it came out well done, there also wasn’t close to enough cheese to cover the meat. Masking the char with the chili mayo made for an excellent sandwich that I would order again, though not the best burger in Boston imho. The potatoes we basically home fries cooked well done, they were decent.

My fiancé had the fettuccini with Bolognese, she and I were both very happy with it. The sauce had large chunks of meat (pork and beef i believe) and tasted very fresh. As someone who doesn't generally order too much pasta when I go out, i would definitely go back for their Bolognese.

Next time around I will try the grilled shrimp app and artisan cheese plate app, people around us ordered them and both looked great. The service was a little slow but generally friendly, all in all i was very pleased with my experience and would definitely go back.

Waltham Recommendation?

Hopefully im not too late for you. There are a few great places to eat in Waltham within a short distance from each other. It all really depends on what you’re in the mood for.

Japanese/Sushi- Ponzu, located on moody st., my favorite place for sushi in the Boston area

Italian- Biagios on moody st., towards the end near main st., pricey but very fresh and delicious

Bar/American-Watch City Brewery is good but if you really want a great meal head to Sadies right around the corner, its a real dive but has great wings and tips

Thai- Tree Top Thai on Prospect st. is great

Patio engagement party for 50

I recently got engaged and my Fiancé wants to have an engagement party in late august at a restaurant that has a patio/deck so our guest can be outside. We were originally thinking about Sophia’s Grotto in Roslindale, we tried it last night and were very disappointed with both the food and service (a few dishes were spectacular such as the scallops au Groton and few dishes were bad such as the spicy mussels). We are willing to look into any place regardless of price in the Boston area (Boston, Brookline, Brighton, Newton, Waltham, Cambridge, Somerville). Quality food is a must! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Where have you always had a bad meal?

Ken's Steak was probably the worst eating experience ive had. Poor quality food, instant mashed potatos and even the salad was bad

Greek?

The Agean located on Arsenal st in Watertown is a very good Greek restaurant. I have been there once and really enjoyed it. My girlfriend and I both started of with a Greek salad that was very tasty, I had the rack of lamb that was perfectly cooked and delicious, it came with rice that had lamb gravy, also very good. She had shrimp and scallop skewers, fresh and delicious. I am new to Greek food (probably because there aren’t too many Greek places in Boston), so im not sure if it is authentic or not but here is there website, you can be the judge http://www.aegeanrestaurants.com/inde...

Tasting for Two during the holidays

My girlfriend and I are looking to go out for a holiday dinner on an upcoming weekend. We enjoy trying new places and generally like all different types of cuisine, with money not a factor in regards to the restaurant of choice. We have recently been to Sibling Rivalry, Pomodora, Davios, Ruth Chris...Originally we had talked about finding a fancier restaurant, I would like to find a place with a good tasting menu (my girlfriend is always talking about doing a tasting). Any place in the greater Boston area is fine; we have a car and have access to the T. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Chicken cheesesteak?

I too absolutely love the chicken phillys, i think it is the best sandwhich out there. Unfortunately i have yet to find a really outstanding one in boston. You will have to travel down to the south shore to find a good one. There are alot of pizza places that have chicken stir fry subs that are similar to the chicken philly, but just not the same(Carl's in Waltham has a decent one). Jersey Mike's Subs in Raynham, MA and Fall River, MA have outstanding chicken philly's, unfortunately it is a little bit of a ride. Please let me know if you find a closer one!

Good authentic sushi

I would have to agree with Oishii in Chesnut hill (i believe they have two other locations as well). Ponzu on Moody street in waltham is also very good. I recently tried Fugakyu for the first time and was very disapointed.

Cheesesteak sandwich in Boston

Saidies right off Moody street in Waltham has a steak tip sub that beats out any other steak and cheese in the area, espeacilly when cheese, peppers, and mushrooms are added. Carls is a great place to go for a huge greesey sandwhcih though.
