53rd Street Halal Guys Have Lost a Few Steps
The meat is now (pre)chopped into tiny pieces. No more texture. Pita is no longer warm.
The mighty have fallen.

Burger Smack-Down Suggestions
Have a Wendy's (Union Square) Double side by side with a Shake Shack (Union Square) Double Shack. That would get attention.
Good burger near grand central?
GoodBurger on 43rd and 2nd Avenue is one of the best in the city. Thicker than a Shake Shack fast food-like burger. Onion Rings are lousy.

Loved Spice Market, but you are right. It's "pan" not authentic.

Does anybody remember when Pizza Hut used to be good?
Yes. When Pan Pizza was first introduced, it was great. And the service was restaurant quality, not truck stop quality.

The bun is lousy. And creative topping don't make up for an OK patty.
Very LA: form over substance.

Dean's Pizza on the UWS. All the kids are wild there, so you'll have nothing to worry about. Avoid Shake Shack UWS unless you don't mind waiting. Rigoletto Pizza on 69th and Columbus is one of the best slices on the UWS and it's next to Magnolia Bakery, for a nice one-two kid punch.

Please help me avoid a kitchen fire...
I seared (burned the outsides of) steak in my (Lodge) pre-seasoned/non-stick cast iron pan. I used canola oil and a *very* hot pan. A drop of oil hit another electronic burner and briefly flamed out (tiny flame). I'm afraid of the possibility (even with an electric stove top) of a full fire with the rest of the oil. (Just bought two kitchen fire blankets.)
No oil next time?
Different oil?
Less heat?
Would appreciate your help. Hate to give up searing my steaks before baking them.
Thanks
breakfast place in West / Greenwich Village?
Cafe Cluny is a very pretty spot with good food. It's a 5 minute walk from you (on West 4th Street).

Best Breakfast and Brunch in Manhattan, 2010 Version
Excellent list. I love Jane on Sundays.
57 Napoli Pizza e Vino
Best of the Naples pizza places in my opinion. The crustini are a waste of money and calories. They are just Cosi sandwich like flat bread with raw toppings. But the pizza is fantastic. The Mezzaluna is a unique creation...half calzone and halp Margarite Pizza. Delicious. 4 Seasons Pizza also great.
Weird location (2nd Floor). OK service. Great pizza.
Best free bread in NYC restaurants?
Commerce. Six different types. VERY fresh. Including a homeade prezel. It's an outstanding bread basket,
anyone else note a decline in the H&H bagel?
Happened years ago. When the mail order and wholesale biz really took off.
Goodburger, Five Guys and Shake Shack
1. Goodburger (a mini steak house burger) beats SS (an excellent fast-food burger); I've had them side by side
2. SS is great; cheese fries adds to the experience
3. Five Guys has a weak bun
Seeking Milos...but cheaper
They grill fish beautifully. and serve it with lemon and capers and a TON of attitude.
There's got to be a place (Greek or not) that does this cheaper.
PLEASE help me make great whipped cream!
What's the trick?
1. Cold bowl?
2. Add vanilla before whipping?
3. Add lemon juice before whipping?
4. Powdered suger afterwards?
Heavy cream, "whipping cream", light cream?
Best Black & Whites
Hot and Crusty, Grand Central, near the S Shuttle Train. Always fresh, nice cake/cookie balance, perfect icing. (Reminds me of the great coffee shop BW of my childhood.)
