Babbo: Is there a 'must order' dish?

I second the Olive Oil Gelatto recommendation. It doesn't sound like it would be an appealing desert but it really was amazing. I also enjoy the corn gelatto.

Golden Buddha Thai Cuisine in Fishkill

I ended up having dinner there the night I made this post and agree that it wasn't tacky. It wasn't needed but not a big deal.

The food was very good. I had the drunken noodles based on the recommendations from this thread. Ever since moving up here from the city we've been unable to find decent Thai and this is the first time I wasn't disappointed. I really like that they provide you with some hot sauces, spices and oils to season the dish to your own preferences. I have never been to Thailand but from watching No Reservations it sounds like this is very typical over there. Nice to have an authentic place in the Fishkill area.

Golden Buddha is a HUGE improvement over the previous owners.

they have a call button? I don't think I've ever seen that before. What did you think of it? It sounds tacky to me. Thanks for the review. I'll have to give it a try.

Best Online Sources for Veggie Seeds?

I have a new favorite seed place, Hudson Valley Seed Library

Martha and Emeril reveal their knowledge of basic cooking oils. Busted.

I replied to the first post. It seems everyone is on the same page with the vegetable oil part. You have to admit the first post was a little strong. It went pretty hard after Emeril. So when a post like that is made you have to expect some strong reactions.

GQ article: "20 best burgers in America"

I've never been to Louis Lunch but there big thing is no ketchup. I think they throw you out of the place if you ask for it. They also include a slice of onion pressed into the meat.

Apparently the Santa Monica Houston's is different. I've been there and couldn't tell what was special about it but I heard that Oprah has a favorite menu item from that place as well.

Martha and Emeril reveal their knowledge of basic cooking oils. Busted.

First, you are really looking for a way to bash Emeril's.

Second, there is a product called vegetable oil. Here's the link to Crisco's vegetable oil. The target audience of the Martha Stewart Show are home cooks so I think Emeril was suggesting a general use oil that is widely avaliable to those watching the show.If a viewer went to the grocery store they would be able to find a product called vegetable oil.

Lastly, do you really think Emeril doesn't know how to cook? Have you been to his restaurants in New Orleans? He's not some flash in the pan chef. He worked hard for a very long time before he became a TV sensation.

Food & Wine: March Issue

Has anyone tried recipes from the March issue of Food & Wine? This month they focused on healthy recipes for the first time. At first I wasn't sure what to make of this but once reading the issue I found the recipes to be very appealing. Curious if anyone has tried them yet.

No Reservations - ECUADOR

I really didn't find any of the dishes to be gross. When described as fetus soup I agree it's unappealing but you have to imagine that situation is encountered fairly often at slaughter houses. If they didn't know the cow was pregnant what option do you have? I think using it as food is better then just throwing it away.

No Reservations - ECUADOR

Fantastic episode and really taught me a lot about a country that I had never really given much consideration to. The stews had me salivating. Once again Anthony Bourdain made me want to hop on the next flight to a country that I had never considered visiting.

NBC's FEAST

Zagat has successfully used a number scoring system.

What's good in Mahopac?

I really like the pizza places in Mahopac, especially Cacciatori's and Gino's. Both are well above average. But I did grow up on these places so some of it might be nostalgia. At least the pizza places in Mahopac are owned and operated by Italian families unlike so many places in Manhattan.

What's good in Mahopac?

I can't believe I forgot one of my favorite places, Rick's Seafood. It's a fresh fish market by day and restaurant my night. It's a casual place serving very good seafood dishes. It's located on Rt. 6.

What's good in Mahopac?

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to check it out. While I love Italian it would be nice to see a little more diversity in the Mahopac dining scene.

I think he was just kidding.

Peruvian also has a lot of Chinese influence. I agree with you that the cuisine does get adapted in each region.

What's good in Mahopac?

Mahopac has a lot of Italian restaurants and pizza places. I recommend Gino's on Rt. 6 right in the center of town. The address is 597 Rt. 6.

For pizza I like Cacciatori Pizzeria, 2 Mahopac plz which is also right in the center of town off 6n. Its a casual place but the pizza is really good and what I consider true NY style.

Yelpers making threats to get comped?

I have chosen to only post positive experiences on my site. My feeling is that if a place is bad then it won't stay in business. I don't need to kick them when they are down. However if a place a really great I'd like to share it with others and hope that their business thrives. Overall i think a positive approach as a greater impact then being negative.

No Reservations: Hudson Valley

Some good observations. I've been thinking about this show for a while and came to the conclusion that he covered the Hudson Valley like a Manhattanitte that never leaves the island. Almost like he was shocked to find it wasn't only suburban developments and strip malls. He seemed to be the kind of New Yorker that considers the Bronx "upstate".

Cool, glad I didn't offend anyone from Buffalo.

babalu bob's- cuban in wappinger/ fishkill area

Cabana, the place you are talking about is a different place then Babalu Bob's. It's most recent location was in the shopping center on Rt. 52 in Fishkill with CVS and Gold's Gym. It was on the same strip as Fishkill Bagel's.

babalu bob's- cuban in wappinger/ fishkill area

I only went once and service was an issue. It's too bad because the food was good. I hate to see local places go out of business because of something like poor service.

No Reservations: Hudson Valley

Yes, Hudson Valley Table is a really nice publication. I think they re-run the previous weeks episode each Monday at 9 PM ET. So you should be able to catch it next week.

I think the thing that bugged me the most is that all of his other shows get me so excited about a place, even Buffalo NY looked cool. No offense to Buffalo.

No Reservations: Hudson Valley

X20 did look great I just have a problem with them going to Yonkers as part of the Hudson Valley. I guess technically it could be considered the Hudson Valley but I think you'd be hard pressed to find one Yonkers resident who refers to their area as the Hudson Valley. He should have focused on locations north of Westchester County.

No Reservations: Hudson Valley

I'm really glad this show peaked your interest in the area. It's a really interesting part of the country. The Hudson is actually brackish water as far as 60 miles north of NYC. It used to be filled with oysters before pollution destroyed the population. I put together my own concept for the show if you are interested in checking it out.

Anthony Bourdain does the Hudson Valley

The taco truck scene was cut and also a visit to an apple orchard. The orchard scene is on their Travel Channel site if you'd like to see it. It also included an odd scene with an author.

Sometimes Bourdain does these oddball or freak shows. It got the impression that is what he did with this episode.

Here's a link to what I would have done. http://wp.me/pOdi8-1

No Reservations: Hudson Valley

I think we made posts on this at the same time. I'm from the area and was very disappointed. They didn't capture the essence of the area. A big failure on their part if you ask me.

I'm assuming you are from CA based on your screen name. Did this episode make you want to travel to the Hudson Valley?

No Reservations: Prague

same here, I went out over the weekend a bought a few czech beers

Anthony Bourdain does the Hudson Valley

I agree, the Mohunk segment made sense. However I don't think he showed the place in a very positive light.

I also think he completely missed the essence of the Hudson Valley. While X20 is a very good restaurant I'd hardly consider Yonkers the heart of the Hudson Valley. If he's going to include Yonkers why not the Bronx? I just wish he would have gotten a little further away from the city.
