Chocolats Privilege

I popped in pre Easter and loaded up for the kiddies. Unremarkable but not offensive in any way. Shop is nice but quality mediocre.

Olivier Potier - New amazing pastry shop and bakery

I picked up a birthday cake on Tuesday ( lemon). It was the only full size cake available and was quite good. it had a lemon fondant over a lemon cream on top of a shortbread crust. I also picked up the snickers bar interpretations for my kids. Very sweet, chocolatey and given two thumbs up. I returned for lunch today and ordered the grilled vegetable panini and a cappuccino. The service was a bit disorganized as you can tell they are trying to get organized and get their groove on. Wait staff very friendly and polite. AT 2:00 pm there was quite a good crowd. I think the place will be a huge success and prices are reflective of the ingreidients and location. I took home 2more snickers bar pastries for my son. 6.78 each. That's love!!!

Rooftop bar recs for anniversary evening

Hotel gansevoort. I am from Montreal and when I visit Manhattan I stay at the hotel on 29th St. which has a beautiful terrace with view and pool. I understand the meatpacking location also has a lovely terrace.

Tricks you figured out in the kitchen and thought 'good one'!!!

I am a nurse. People do fry topless.....more often than you think. I have seen repeatedly...frightening but very hard not to laugh despited horrific consequences.

Help!! I bought a huge tub of cashews. Way to salty. Recipes please.

Caramel,toffee,clusters.....truth be told I bought them to try and eat healthy. Oh well, I will start my healthy regime after making homemade candy for spring holiday( Easter or Passover)

Help!! I bought a huge tub of cashews. Way to salty. Recipes please.

We have already consumed some so I would feel funny about returning them. The salt is really fine and I suspect would still linger after rinsing. I am going to try choc. Nut clusters. The chocolate will offset the saltyness.

Question from a new guy.

Muffins- once a week prepare some heavy duty muffins with dried fruits, nuts, whole grains. Freeze em and take out as needed. Bananas, apples - the usual suspects. Hummus prepared once a week and used as dip with cut up veg or slathered in a wrap. As a nurse and mother of 4 I can tell you that the key to success lies in organization. A trip to cosco once a week comes in handy for me as I buy the individual Greek yoghurts (room temp is fine with me) Good luck! You've got a lot on your plate but plan, organize and execute.

Help!! I bought a huge tub of cashews. Way to salty. Recipes please.

Many thanks, I have enough nuts to try all the different preparations. I think I will start with the cashew butter.

Help!! I bought a huge tub of cashews. Way to salty. Recipes please.

in my attempt to eat healthy I have decided to add nuts to my diet. I left cosco today with a huge container of cashews and find them too salty to eat on their own. Any suggestions or recipes. I hate to have wasted 16 dollars on something that's going to get pitched. Could they be rinsed and added to muffins? I usually just eat plain cashews so any tips or baking suggestions to get rid of their saltiness would be greatly appreciated.

I made yummy dog treats for pills

My dog was recently diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. These recipes sound great but my guy has to be on a low fat diet. The vet even outlawed the commercial pill pockets saying they contained too much fat. I think like me he will have to stick to no fat yoghurt

What non-food/non-traditional food items did you eat as a kid?

I confess after many years of soul searching that I ate the cupcake paper. First I would scrape off the excess crumbs with my teeth and then I would lick the paper clean and then one day the inevitable happened. I ate the paper. As a respectable adult I have to remind myself not to do do this........but it's hard. I have issues.

lol: gordon ramsay no more

I had been twice in the last month. Mediocre, at best. Cautionary tale are you paying attention Daniel B? Montreal is not New York and Quebecers will burn furniture to heat the house as evidenced by removing the one thing this place had going for it. People want to come close to fame . The two meals I had there the place was fairly full with tourists, B celebrities from HGTV and a feW locals Having an office party. Fame is fleeting but Chalet bar b que will live forever providing good value and reliability.

Daily Bread - What Method Are You Using to Put Bread on the Table?

I am a real newbie when it comes to bread baking. However, the price of a decent loaf can be 4.00$ in my area so I decided to start making the humble Irish soda bread. Crazy easy, tasty and makes great toast.

PC Kulfi Karma ice cream

Omg!!!!! This was the best ice cream in terms of flavor. I was disappointed that it was not the overall winner. I hope they continue to carry it. Really nice , unusual flavor for me( not being Indian.) I am planning on stocking up.

There's healthy eating, and then there's the Hungry Girl blog. Have you ever seen it?

Comfort me with heavy cream and chocolate. Weight issues all my. Love yourself, be happy. I don't believe people who count calories live longer...it just feels that way.

can we really blame eating habits on parents?

I am the youngest of 5 children. They could only afford 3. Suffered from depression and morbid obesity all my life. Hundreds of thousands spent on therapy. Now functional, happy and recognize that food replaced healthy relationships. Still love to eat but refuse all contact with parents. Who else to blame as a child deprived of love and food the neighbors?

Chinese Food for Jewish Christmas

I never implied it was good. Like many things it is a tradition and I thought it was what she was looking for.

eggnog

I had a huge holiday party and melted Hagen daz vanilla. Spiked with jamaican rum and literally had people licking the bowl and begging for the recipe.. I believe it was a suggestion in Gourmet magazine if serving to guests. I am a nurse and don't take chances with other people's health.

Chinese Food for Jewish Christmas

We order from Chung Mei on Queen Mary road on the 24th. I am pretty sure it may be what you are looking for. the close for Yom kippur.

Stacy's Pita Chips?

Metro in Westmount does indeed carry the small bags at an exorbitant price 3.00$ alas, I have succumbed to the cinnamon variety. the plain giant bag is available at costco on bridge street.

Pumpkin. Humble and beautiful.

I am going to make this tomorrow night for the kids before presenting to the pumpkin hater.

Pumpkin. Humble and beautiful.

Thanks Chowsers!!!! Cornbread, stuffed, risotto. I 'm on it. Cannot wait to see his reaction. Pumpkins rule!!!!

Pumpkin. Humble and beautiful.

An friend made an off side comment to me during a serious conversation. He said nothing good had ever come from a pumpkin. I was deeply offended and challenged. I served pumpkin soup at my wedding many years ago and have wowed several dinner party guests with my pumpkin cheesecake. I am now on a quest to find a fabulous pumpkin recipe to make him eat his words. I wanna know how you elevate this humble food to the pinnacle of fall bounty where it belongs.

Are doughnuts the new cupcakes?

I just returned from manhattan and had an opportunity to go the donut plant in the Chelsea hotel. This placed rocked and there were lots of tourists snapping photos and eating doughnuts. I was thinking back to BCE ( before cupcake era) and wondering if doughnuts could be next. Your thoughts and memories greatly appreciated.

Freezer meal for Parents and Toddler when Baby #2 is born?

I have been both giver and receiver at this stressful period. My go to dish would be shepherds pie. Sauted ground beef with onions bottom layer, corn (fresh, frozen, canned your choice) and creamy mash potatoes on top. This meal requires very little chewing (ideal for sleep deprived parents)

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

Having eaten at GR in NY I find it pitiful that it takes someone from outside to come in and show us the way it is supposed to be done. GR will take a cut on every meal served on Laurier. I ONLY want to support local chefs and it is a sad state of affaires that chef owners find it impossible to get capital. The re opening of an institution like Laurier took the financing of a huge Brand. My distaste for the whole thing is that it could have been done well and locally if the business environment here could have facilitated that process. I wish the local could have had local money behind it. I wish chef Russo the best.

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

Why oh why would I drive over the mountain, seek out parking, possibly change out of my wrinkled cottons for the pleasure of being fleeced at least double what a delicious meal would cost at chalet. Crispy, succulent and perfectly prepared chicken, delicious, addictive fries. Those crotchety ladies rock my world. If I want a fancy meal it won't be rotisserie chicken. When I want stick to the ribs, authentic, old school chicken, fries and gravy I don't need a celebrity brand to show me greatness.

Best boxed cake mix and canned frosting

Nuke a packet of good quality choc chips with 2 tbs cream. Call it ganache and have the kids take turns twirling the tops in that deep dark choc.. Sprinkle with anything such as cocoanut, chopped nuts, jimmies. Mom of four. I know of what I speak.

BUNS, minimal hamburger joint on St Catherine

Unclean, low rent, mediocre food. You get what you pay for.

Best and Worst Grocery Store Finds...

I have always been a lavish spender ESP. Where food is concerned. Recently, I have adopted a more frugal attitude and Coaticook ice cream has been a revolutionary discovery for me. My kids love the cotton candy flavor and orange flavor. I have grown fond of the pistachio. Who knew you could get such great quality for a fair price. This week it was on special at Metro Westmount 3.99 for the large container. Happiness!
