Anybody been to Trattoria Giuseppe in Edgemont?

Food incredible. Service horrible. I keep going so the food is worth a little irritation. Grilled artichoke "app for two" is to die for. I get it as my entree quite a bit. Gorgeous grilled artichoke hearts, fresh mozz, prosciutto, shaved parm and capers all drizzled with olive oil. YUM.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - May 2014 [old]

I just tried the cold Thai noodle salad, only because it jumped out at me when reaching for my chicken salad. It was WONDERFUL. Spicy and a little tangy but not at all like a regular picnic pasta salad. Nice pieces of grilled chicken in it as well.

Rose wine I should seek out for the long hot summer.

I LOVE Apothic Rose! It's not too sweet or dry and is perfect chilled or room temp.

Any soft shell sightings in Philly?

If you're talking retail, try one of the Hill's locations. The one in Newtown Square is always stocked.

Cheese with crystals

This is going to be a very expensive question! I'm going to clear out Wegman's this weekend.

Cheese with crystals

I LOVE the crystals in Parmigiano Reggiano but have not come across any other "crunchy" cheese. Does anyone have any recommendations? What do you eat with them? Thanks!

I'm pretty open except for goat. I've tried. Can't do it.

Two Fat Ladies - now there is none

So sorry to hear of her passing. I remember when Jennifer passed as well. I wish they ran past episodes more often, I never seem to catch them anymore. Last time was several years ago on Travel channel maybe? I had it on and my now-husband actually became engrossed in the episode. I think it was of Clarissa shooting game, lol! I knew then he was a keeper!

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - March 2014 [OLD]

Just be sure to stir it often. I also skimmed off some grease that comes to the top from the cheese. I also mixed in 1/2 the swiss with everything else then topped it with the rest so it would have a melted cheese top. Then after people started serving I mixed it in a bit. Good luck! Also, you can try baking it in a hollowed out brown bread boule. That would be nice.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - March 2014 [OLD]

I LOVE that dip. I use bottled Thousand Island dressing for the last items on your list and the rye Triscuits are wonderful. I've also made it in a small crock pot which worked well. It gets cold so fast in the baking dish.

Favourite sweet pie??

My mom used to make the most simple chocolate pudding pie for Thanksgiving because my brother wouldn't eat pumpkin or apple. It was just homemade pudding in a homemade crust. The crust was a little sweet and the bottom got just a little squishy when it sat in the fridge. Probably more nostalgia than anything, but I've never been able to make one just like it.

The Melting Pot

It's very yummy. But to quote my husband... "I just spent $150 to cook my own damn dinner?".

I do like it though. If you just do a cheese and dessert it's reasonable. But they push this 5 course thing and it's a fortune. There are lots of good copycat recipe sites that you can do at home for a romantic evening.

Quick, while we still have power! Blizzard comfort food?

I have 5 inches already! I love to bake when it's snowing outside. I'll make cookies with the kids (if I don't want to kill them being trapped inside) and make a couple loaves of bread. Boiling eggs is a great idea!

The best non-pizza side items ranked at Domino's Pizza

My husband actually really likes the chicken habanero (sp?) sandwich. I'm embarrassed to admit we order D's way too much. They are only a few blocks up the street, I can order online and with 4 kids it's easy to shut them up after a long day at work :)

Berger Cookies in DC?

They are usually around random drug stores and some gas stations with a store in the DC area. I agree with Just Visiting though as far as a hostess gift. My brother loves them so I ship them to him in Northern CA. But almost everyone else I know can't stand them.

What about Mumbo sauce? That's a huge DC thing and can be found at a lot of Chinese restaurants or upper end grocery stores.

Old Lunchbox Favorites

LOL me too! My grandparents were from Sicily and the refrigerator still impressed them. We ate all those cereals too. Except when they got low they would mix them all together into one box of mutant sugar cereal. Used to gross me out.

I just remembered those little barrels! Hugs maybe? They were crappy Kool Aid wannabes with that foil cap. They were so cute!

Remember those 20 piece red Tupperware ones? I used to have an anxiety attack trying to get all the pieces back in so I could snap the top.

I have the McDonald's Garfield mugs. I wish I still had them, but they also had big plastic plates with all the McD's characters. My brother and I used to fight over Grimace.

Old Lunchbox Favorites

I just stole one of my kid's Handi-snacks, the square of cheese with the crackers. OMG! Not only did it taste wonderfully bad for me, with nothing natural in the ingredient list whatsoever, but it gave me a flood of memories of all that lunchbox food from back in the day.

I'm avoiding the requisite carrot sticks and other healthy items....

Pudding in a pop-top can
Donald duck orange juice cans
Hostess fruit pies
Twinkies, Ho-Hos
Goober-Grape sandwiches- do they still make that awesome gross swirled heaven?
Chicken in a basket crackers with the old brick Velveeta, cubed (blush from shame)

Help me remember some oldies but goodies!

Boiled Peanuts

Is there anywhere near Philly (I'm in Royersford, Mont county) to get boiled peanuts? I know they're mostly a Southern thing, but I'm so intrigued.

Learning how to use a slow cooker

I agree totally with nat8199. I have 4 young kids and work full time so the SC is a lifesaver for me. As long as you have a bit of liquid and/or enough fat on the meat you are using, you can cook anything. They even have recipes for sweets like cake and puddings. I've even cooked baked dishes like my hot Reuben dip and crab dip in the SC and then just kept it on warm. You don't get the even golden brown, but nobody cares!

Can You Learn to Love Scrapple?

I LOVE it, always have. My husband agreed to try it finally after I explained to him it was already cooked. Most people seem to think it's raw pig parts when it's actually been cooked to death with corn meal. He doesn't love it, but at least he doesn't hate it when I cook it now!

Unique Sweets

Love this show! The one thin, blond annoys me a little, but the rest, especially the two girls with the booze show, are adorable.

I'd like to be the set of hands that they show slowly breaking apart the squishy brownies and donuts! Where do they post those jobs?
