What brand (bottled/boxed) sangria is most popular in Spain?

Thanks for all responses =)

sunshine: Yes, but I've been thrown outta nicer places than this, as they say (haha)!

bud, yes I waffled a bit between where to post this but I knew I'd get soooo many more viewpoints here. And will continue to receive, no doubt.

I'm sure it's nothing special, mainly just curious. I'll buy a box and drive to the cow pasture up the road and drink it in the barn and I'll know exactly what Pamplona smells like!

14 Benefits Most Seniors Didn't Know...

Yes it IS creepy. All the ads, especially the moving ones, keep me from just browsing this site; instead I only come for a question or two and leave, The site doesn't work well with my Android device- I suspect because of ads.
My laptop died (I used Firefox + Adblock plus) and yes ABP does cure the problems completely.

Seltzer Siphon Bottle

I saw a neat video on Vimeo about a seltzer company which some entrepreneur resurrected in Brooklyn, I think. I'll bet that's where the restaurant got theirs. If you're lucky enough to live in the NYC area, you could look them up. Brooklyn Seltzer Boys.

What brand (bottled/boxed) sangria is most popular in Spain?

Every year I read about festivals, etc. in Spain and I see the ground littered with little boxes that look like juice boxes, which are single-serve sangria in boxes. I Googled and searched here, to no avail. So please tell me if you know, what is the "Budweiser" of sangria in Spain? Mainly curious, not trying to become a boxed-wine expert!
And I am aware that sangria is something most Chowhounds make themselves, just as I would if I wanted good sangria.

Nashville Bachelor Party

Congrats on the nuptials! (is that spelled right?)
Logan's is like Bonanza or Ponderosa, man- stay clear!
Rolf and City House: heard good things, both are on my wishlist.
Loveless: run away. Tourist trap; mediocre food.
Prince's : I don't see the attraction, it's truly a dump. Haven't been for almost 20 (!) years but heard it hasn't changed a bit...
Rotiers: Yes. It's a time capsule- the great black waiter is still there and he looks just the same! Nice guy. And Mrs Rotier will take your cash (CASH only IIRC); she has not taken her eyes off that register in forty years!
I was going to recommend Capitol Grille for thou know the bathroom and other ambience... Food's hit-or-miss, but mostly hit. Not cheap, but you know that...
Stock-Yard: I can't believe they are still in business- if the recent reviews are true they might be filming "Candid Camera" there, it's _that_ bad...
No suggestions about self-catering (the weather should be perfect) but you might consider Monell's (in Germantown) for true Southern-style vittles (it'll be mobbed plan accordingly); oh I just remembered they have a take-away "Monell's Express" in Berry Hill you could bring fried chicken from there for your tailgating. (Full disclosure- I know the owner, but it does not affect my rating of the restaurant)
Good luck, and report back!

2013 Italian Lights Festival in Nashville September 7 weekend

One thing I miss about not living up North is the dearth of ethnic street fests here. There is one coming up September 7th weekend Italian Lights (please google it for details; I'm posting this from my phone)

Chowhound rules implore me to disclose that I worked on a charity event with the one of the organizer/sponsors, Michael King of Monell's, and so I know him from that; that's my only tie to this thing... except I'm half Italian.

Ciao,
Tom

Sardinia Enoteca-Nashville

How was the service? IIRC, you are well qualified to evaluate it! Thanks for the pics, too. I feel like such a geek when I'm taking pics of my food! Also, it's sooo funny to me when I see other people taking food pics... I have actually introduced myself on a couple occasions. (Like "Hey bud, I'm aTOMicTom on Chowhound and Urbanspoon, who're you?!").
Back to the food, I've been wanting to try Burrata; I love fresh mozzarella and burrata is like that IIRC... looks good!
So it was only half full on a Saturday night. I think if they got their pricing down to Nashville levels it might pick up a bit! On the other hand they really have little competition in the gourmet Italian category. I'm not in the restaurant biz but I always wonder about the ratio of high prices & low volume vs lower prices & higher volume, or how it's decided.

Thanks for the review Rachael!

Help me find good carnitas in Nashville

Did you try La Hacienda? Some things on their menu are great (ceviche, tacos de carne asada) and some aren't; I haven't tried the carnitas.

Most bizarre canned food item you have encountered

I was looking for pics of canned balut (fertilized duck or chicken eggs which some folks eat) and found these:

Yuck!

So I only found them in a jar, does it count?

Breakfast:
Fido. They have a real chef.

Monell's (also for dinner but not romantic, served family-style; but don't let that deter you, it's great)

Dinner:
Germantown cafe

I've been wanting to try Sardinia ($ardinia, if you get my meaning)

Margot Cafe

Capitol Grille, it's right downtown... be sure to check out the legendary mens' room (seriously).

And what pete k said.

I always feel like I am getting ripped off at restaurants

Very true on the cost/value ratio of ethnic cuisines! Back when we were first discovering Indian I tried making Chicken Korma. Had to buy 20 special ingredients (ground my own fenugreek) and it was a real learning experience! Not something I'd make again! (although it came out pretty good)

Another big lesson was the sushi party we held for about 15 friends. Bought the special ingredients and it cost probably $200, back in 1990 dollars... not bad compared to buying all that sushi at a restaurant, but a lot of work... learned not to stress too much over sushi (and Indian) prices, at least!

Ooh, Alinea! I read a funny blog post about them; sounded like quite the show!

Best Sushi in Nashville

I looove Ken's sushi near Vanderbilt. I think it'd be my last meal here if I was moving. Very basic and not too expensive. They remember you there like family after a few visits if you're the friendly type (I am).

Ken's is moving to East Nashville soon in case someone finds this thread after 2013, you might want to call to see if the Belmont/Vandy area store is still open.

I always feel like I am getting ripped off at restaurants

Well now that I set the expectations low for you, I hope that all your dining experiences will pleasantly surprise you!
I suggest Tripadvisor and Urbanspoon for restaurant research.
If I may recommend a couple places:
Monell's in the Germantown neighborhood of Nashville. Served "family style" - you're seated with strangers, and the serving dishes are passed around. Excellent southern food. (disclaimer - I know the owner, but only from working charity events with him)
Ken's Japanese - Best, inexpensive (nearly cheap) sushi in town!
Good luck, I didn't mean to scare you!

Sardinia Enoteca-Nashville

If you asked me your last three questions above without mentioning Sardinia, I'd have recommended that exact restaurant!
Haven't been yet, but looking forward to trying it. Most of the questions you have asked are addressed on their website, which is a beautiful, exemplary site.
Definitely not inexpensive. Definitely upscale. Of course, this being Nashville, no one has ever been thrown out of a restaurant for wearing dungarees! (rolling my eyes).
You'll have to update us on your dinner if you go!

A Gonella's dilemma: was I a cheater or a genius? (DTW area)

Haha, I just joined CHOW and I think I'll fit right in!

First World Problems FTW!

To answer the original question; nothing wrong with putting dibs on a bun! You're more on the genius side, IMO. Not quite a 10 on the geniusomometer just for calling and reserving a roll, though... XD

I always feel like I am getting ripped off at restaurants

I frequently feel I could've made it better at home; I just keep reminding myself how much I hate cleaning the kitchen after cooking and I feel a tiny bit better. I very much long for restaurant food that makes me think "How'd they DO that?" (in a GOOD way, for a change)!

In Nashville, where I live, the restaurants generally have crappy food and even worse service.

Also I hate when they triple the liquor-store pricing on wine, especially mid-priced bottles (say, $90 for a $30 selection). Seems unfair, somehow.

So yes, I fell your pain. I just keep trying, though... =)
