How Long Will Thawed Scallops Last in the Fridge?

Hi Chowhounds! It's been awhile, but I knew I could count on all of you for my question. I usually scoff at these food safety threads, but I'm really not sure on this one. Here's my situation. I have a bag of packaged scallops that came frozen from Wegmans. I did a quick defrost in a bowl of cold water Wednesday evening, and in the middle of preparing dinner, I lost power. I immediately put them in the fridge and power was probably out for 2 hours, but I ended up going out to dinner that night and didn't cook them. With the holiday weekend and everything, I haven't had a chance to cook them either until this evening. Will they still be ok? I haven't opened the bag to smell them, so of course if they smell funky I will definitely toss, but is there any possibility that they're fine to cook and eat now?

So, comfort food...

Alcohol!! But food wise, I don't have a go to. It really is whatever I'm most in the mood for at that moment. That being said, some really good drunken noodles with chicken always warm me up and make things better.

How Many Food Stores?

My big bi-weekly grocery shopping (I'm a single gal and don't need to go weekly) takes place at usually either Harris Teeter or Wegmans. I'll pop in to either Safeway or Giant when they're more convenient if I just need an item or 2. I go to Wal Mart probably once a week mostly for toilitries and cleaning products, but I will sometimes pick up an item or few of food there, too.

Control freak in my kitchen.

Lol. The worst part is that cleaning my kitchen has become a gesture viewed as sweet and helpful by guys I have dated. I have had about 3 different guys do my dishes before while I was in the shower. I walk out and I just have to try to be excited. Of course I do appreciate the thoughtfulnees, but it's not nearly has helpful to me as they think it is!!

Control freak in my kitchen.

It depends on the person really as to how much this bothers me. Some people I would actually welcome the help, others I would prefer they didn't at all. I think I might be a little more particular when it comes to cleaning up, though. I try to talk anyone out of trying to do the dishes, if offered. This is going to sound super OCD, but I've watched other people do dishes before and very rarely do they sufficently clean them to my standards.

No way!! That's just like a bonus, mystery surprise of life. Even better when I open the thread and it is totally not what I thought it was going to be about. I get so excited!! Okay, a lot of sarcasm there, but no it doesn't bother me.

Writing a post on Chowhound...and then deleting it before posting.

I do sometimes. Mostly I think I get about half way through writing my post and get lazy and don't feel like writing anymore, so delete. I post mostly through my iPhone so it can be a bitch. Or I don't think what I've typed is conveying the point I'm trying to make well enough, and again, I get too lazy to fix that, so delete.

So annoyed with dinner guest

I would just write him off as a rude person, not take if personally, and continue to do what you've been doing.

I guess it would be hard excluding him since he's your friend's husband, so there isn't much else you can do. I do wonder what your friend thinks of his behavior, though. My apologies if it's already been discussed here, but I wouldn't tolerate any husband of mine being that blatantly rude to a good friend of mine.

Sad to report the passing of Veggo

I'm so sorry for your loss. I haven't been posting much or even checking the boards lately, but a fellow poster told me the news of Veggo's passing today and I had to stop by to give my condolences.

With so many great people on these boards, Veggo was certainly still always one of my favorites. I will miss him dearly.

What's your summer guilty pleasure?

Fresh corn on the cob with lots of butter.

Strawberry shortcake

Tropical, fruity cocktails if I'm at a place on the water. This is the only time I really venture away from my much lower calorie rum and diets.

Fried seafood, crab legs.

Hot dogs at a BBQ (I'm not a big hotdog person unless it's from the grill, and usually that only happens in the warmer months).

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - May 2014 [old]

I have no problem with edamame in itself, just not in this "hummus." I can't even describe the taste of it honestly. Just not to my liking.

Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - May 2014 [old]

Edamame "Hummus" anyone had this? Blech blech, oh so I guess that would be a nay. I don't normally play this game since I never shop at TJ's (I'd like to, just too far for me) but my brother does and I had some of this yesterday at my parent's house.

Motel / Buffet Scrambled eggs

I won't touch any cooked food from any place that doesn't have an onsite kitchen, which means any of these hotels that doesn't actually have a restaurant onsite. From those I will only take yogurt, or dried cereal, if anything.

What is your handwash routine?

I can relate to your method of dish washing as this is exactly how we were taught and how we did it in home ec class in high school. I'm thinking this is an old school method of washing the dishes (I'm 29). This isn't how we washed them at home growing up, and my OCD side of my brain could never allow myself to wash them this way at my own house. I have a seamless double bowl stainless steal sink with equal sized bowls in my kitchen, but I would never trust the cleanliness of my own sink to rinse them in sitting water in it. After I heard one time that a sink is more dirty than a toilet, that's it for me. I wash my hand wash dishes with a soapy sponge and then rinse with running water. The other dishes get put in the dishwasher.

Poor jr....you really did try here! I'll pay the first actual newbie some good money to ask a real question. I'm however, expensing it to you jr.

Do you have welcome packets available for newbies? I think that would be a nice touch.

Newbie Welcome Center.......If you are new and have a question ask it here!!

I agree, but I believe the problem is probably that if I were a newbie and would be interested in this thread, I wouldn't even know to look for it. Prior to today it's just been sitting at the bottom for a long time probably going mostly unnoticed. Maybe jr should update it daily to keep it at the top, lol, that could be fun. With any luck it will just turn into jr having an hilarious conversation with himself. ;)

Rudest grocery checker remark

I highly doubt that's company policy. I've never encountered a grocery store where it was, but even if it was an explanation of that would've been nice instead of a straight no. I find that kind of rude. I wouldn't have done what emglow did, but I certainly would've asked the cashier why not, and if she really couldn't use it I probably would've asked to sign up for it there.

Rudest grocery checker remark

Well, I didn't really find it rude as much as I did funny, but I guess some might. I was 23 years old at the time and was purchasing a pack of cigarettes at Walmart. The cashier makes a comment about how she can't possibly believe I'm old enough to buy these and asks for my ID. I present it to her and when she learns that not only am I old enough, but I'm 23 she just can't believe it. She's going on and on about it and then even yells over to the next cashier, "hey Barb, can you believe she's 23"? It was all very odd to me.

Communal tables at restaurants - your opinion please?

I don't like people, so no. Jk.....kinda. I'm actually a very social person with a lot of friends, but there are just certain situations where strangers have the very likely possibility of being annoying, and dining at a communal table would be one of them. Another one would be in a buffet line. Not that I frequents buffet restaurants, but think a wedding or something. Too many possibilities in these situations to annoy the shit out of me.

Coconut-Sweetened or Not?

That makes sense! I was going to say that if it's sold right next to the sweetened coconut in the grocery store, it's surprising I haven't picked it up by mistake at least once since I usually just grab whatever I see first.
