Food recs near Fontainebleau, one nice, one casual

I tried it for a business dinner about a month ago. I was not impressed at all, especially considering the price (I didn't pay).

I think there's another thread in this board that talks about The Forge. The comments there were that the past was considerably than the present. Only tried it after the re-invention so can't speak to that, but my experience was lackluster.

Birthday Cake for 10-12 Peopl

Reporting back to CH, a little bit overdue. I must say, coming from Manhattan, Baked is definitely out of the way, so I'm not sure if I would get it again unless I had a car or lived in Brooklyn.

To start off, I'm not too fond of cakes to begin with. However, the green tea cake was a great success at the party as everyone liked it a lot. I wish I could go into more detail but I'm completely biased towards loving ice cream cake.

Birthday Cake for 10-12 Peopl

Ended up ordering the Green Tea cake from Baked. They were extremely accommodative with my short deadline. I'll report back to CH after I try it. Thanks for the suggestion!

I was thinking of doing Lady M Green Tea Crepe Cake, but the birthday girl tried it a couple of times already. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Staying in Downtown D.C. for 2 Nights. Need recommendations!

I had the sampler, which had three different toppings. Eggs benedict, scrambled eggs, and smoked salmon & asparagus. Couldn't pick the waffles with the sampler so not exactly sure which one I got.

Staying in Downtown D.C. for 2 Nights. Need recommendations!

Just wanted to give an update. Thanks for all of the suggestions guys! Ended up trying out Komi, Locolat, The Pig, and DCity Smokehouse.

Komi - Wine pairing is key. If you're going to go to Komi, go all out and get the pairing. All of the dishes were all mediocre at worst to great. The environment and service were great. At $225 w/o tip PP with the wine pairing, I think it was a little overpriced for what it is. Definitely more of a special occasion dining experience.

Locolat - Wasn't overly impressed with the waffles. I prefer them crispier and Locolat's were not. I really liked the scrambled eggs though, Locolat did them very well. The eggs were light, fluffy, but flavorful as well. I especially liked the herb scrambled eggs (with cilantro and scallions). The eggs benedict were standard. Smoked salmon & asparagus were good. Lastly, the coffee, chocolate log cake was dry and disappointing.

The Pig - I love pork, so I'm biased towards a tapas restaurant focused around pork. The charcuterie board wasn't worth it in my view as nothing stood out, and the lack of a good cheese board didn't help. The dishes that I liked were the Bacon Wrapped Apples, Crispy Pork Shank, Mac & Cheese, Pig Tails, and Porchetta. Overall, it was a good restaurant, and I would go again. I was all porked-out by the end and probably need a month or two before I would think of going back.

DCity Smokehouse - The owner recommended sandwiches, but I was stubborn and I wanted variety and didn't want bread. In the end, it was a mistake. The brisket was too dry, the ribs only okay, and the pork belly was the best of the three. The only side I tried was the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which were really good. My favorites of all the things I tried were the wings, and the Meaty Palmer.

Yeah, it seems that people still refer to it as The Standard. Thanks for the heads-up. It is closed until March 1st.

Thanks for the recos.

Looking for good restaurants that the locals like. Doesn't matter if it's cheap or expensive. Open to all types of cuisine. Just want restaurants that are in D.C. and walkable or accessible through public transit. I will be at 12th & K street.

So far, I have The Standard and Toki Underground as potentials.

If you had three meals left to eat in SF, where would you go?

Just looking for a place with good seafood. I don't want it to be too upscale though because I'm traveling in a group of three, so an upscale place may be too intimate.

If you had three meals left to eat in SF, where would you go?

It seems like Bar Crudo was once a darling but has fallen off a bit, at least that's what I gathered searching the board. That's why I have Skool on the list to.

What would you recommend that is more unique to SF?

I'm visiting SF for a work trip during the 2nd week of Nov and staying for 3 days after my trip. I'm looking for inspiration of where to eat.

If you had choose your last meal for breakfast, lunch, dinner, where would you go to get for each one?

Also, I'm currently looking at going to The House, Bar Crudo, Skool, and House of Prime Rib. Seem like good choices?

Thanks1

Dinner in Downtown Austin

Thanks for the suggestions! Ended up going to Chez Nous. Great little place that was pretty quiet in a busy part of town. Definitely enjoyed my meal and wine there.

Went a little over my price range, $48 w/ tip but my company's footing the bill anyways.

Dinner and Bars near Fisherman's Wharf [San Francisco]

24, going alone for work tomorrow. I enjoy all types of food. Need some suggestions for a place in the area that's open at 9pm for dinner and then a bar afterwards. Willing to venture out a bit either through walking or taxi but want to stay somewhat close. Is there another neighborhood nearby that isn't a tourist trap like Fisherman's Wharf?

Thanks!

We'll probably be driving through the Richmond area at 7am. What's good for breakfast along the way that is close to I-95 or should I just eat at the rest stops?
