Your suggestions for Falmouth/mv

I do not recommend the Flying Bridge. Both times I went there the food was terrible and service very poor. Check some previous boards for recommendations, particularly Cape Cod Guys's choices.

Where's my change!?!

Had breakfast with a friend that totaled $12. Gave server $20. She then asked me if I wanted the change back. After responding yes and waiting 20 minutes I had to track her down and ask for the change. Her reply was "Oh, sorry.....I forgot." Needless to say, I have not returned to that restaurant.

White dinnerware. Help, please.

Maybe you might want to check out the Dansk website, The Bistro line is attractive and durable. Dinner plates measure 10 1/8". I used them when visiting my daughter in-law this past week. I had forgotten just how nice Dansk dishes are. http://www.dansk.com/cat/index.cfm?fu...

Flying Bridge, Falmouth

Flying Bridge is awful. Went there again last summer hoping it had improved from my last visit a few years ago. Terrible service and food. I will not return.

do you ever judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of the bathrooms??

No. I also judge a grocery store by the condition of its restrooms and the deli area. I was at a large local chain store last week that was incredibly dirty. Decided to leave and went to a smaller, cleaner grocery store.

best corned beef to buy?

Agree with Frank Terranova. I cooked a Hummels corned beef yesterday and was very disappointed in how salty it was. Will not purchase another one.

Best rice cooker?

IndyGirl

I just checked Amazon and they sell both the Miracle and the Oyama. I use the Miracle mostly. The price ranges from $65 to $80 or so. Plenty of reviews for you to look at.

Best rice cooker?

I responded to another thread with a similar request. The two I recommend (from experience) is the Miracle rice cooker or the Oyama. Both have stainless steel inserts - not teflon. I know the Miracle was on Amazon. The Oyama came from a different place. They were not that expensive - I think I paid around $60. They are very easy to clean........

What was in your Christmas stocking growing-up?

First of all, we did not have a "Christmas stocking." We used an old sock, or if we were allowed, one of our father's socks. We usually got "Necco" Wafers, gum and maybe an orange. I cannot say that I looked forward to anything in the sock. We were more interested in what Santa was bringing. I grew up in the 50's without a TV until I was 12yo. We were not influenced by TV ads. In looking back it seems like it was a simpler time. Dolls, trains, skates were the treasured items.

"only $25 per pound".......too high for me. I know their seafood is very fresh but pricey.

Searching for a very specific cooking pan

I live in Massachusetts and purchased it at Northeast Restaurant Equipment Co., 94 Industrial Dr, Mashpee, MA 02649. The phone is 508-477-3433. They sell large equipment and small housewares. The only web address listed is for the dishwashers, etc. It is dishmachine.com. Maybe they can help you with a better web address for the smaller items they sell. I could not find one.

Searching for a very specific cooking pan

I have one similar to this. It does not have any markings on it either. It measures 12" by not quite 1 and 1/2 inches in depth. I bought it at a restaurant supply store and use it for roasting , baking, etc.

Best Bread machine and Rice Cooker WITHOUT Teflon lined pans?

Re: Rella

I was interested in your response about the Miracle rice cooker. It is nice to get feedback when someone takes a chance and purchases a recommendation from a member - good or bad.

Best Bread machine and Rice Cooker WITHOUT Teflon lined pans?

I really like them both. The Miracle rice cooker is larger and very easy to clean. FYI I really do not cook much brown rice - prefer white and the cooker does a great job. The Oyama is smaller and has a small plastic thing on the outside back that you have to remove, empty out and clean after each use. No big deal - but different. Also, attached to the lid (on the inside) is a removable disc that also need cleaning after each use. The Miracle cooker only has the interior pot to clean and a glass lid which allows you to see the rice cooking. Have attached a link: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...

Check out Amazon. They have the Miracle and the Oyama rice cookers. Both have the stainless steel inserts. I have one of each because I wanted different sizes. The Oyama is smaller. I probably did not need the larger Miracle one but I do like both of them.

Need help picking rice cooker

I have both of these stainless steel (interiors) rice cookers and recommend them highly. I have used various rice cookers for years and wanted only the stainless steel ones. After researching on the internet I came up with these. I have had them for about 3 years now. There might be others out there now. http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Steel...

Unique Eateries in Providence, RI...

Wildflour (yes that is the correct spelling) a vegan small cafe type place on the east side of Providence on the Pawtucket line. Delicious smoothies, pastry, coffee. You can also eat in the vegetarian restaurant a few doors down. Was at the vegan place yesterday with my daughter. Would never have guessed the pastries were pure vegan (no dairy, eggs, etc.) I guess this would qualify as different and/or unique for some people.

Foods you love at Trader Joe's that got discontinued? [OLD]

I was at Trader Joe's in Hyannis, MA on Monday, 3/14/11. They have discontinued their Soy Vanilla ice cream. The service desk informed me all the soy ice cream they carried is discontinued and will be replaced by another brand. I think she said Breyer's but I am not sure about the name or when it will be available. I am really disappointed. The discontinued brand was delicious.

should my slow cooker be doing this?

Re: ZenSojourner

I believe the post you made reference to was made by BryanPepperseed on 8/8/10 under the Cookware heading "What are the cooking temperatures of your slow cooker?" I have not made one of these but thought about it after my new rival crockpot (6qt used twice) handles cracked and broke off when I picked it up to use. I will never use another Rival. I bought a used Breville (have not used it yet) on ebay and a new Cuisinart.

ISO fish market open Labor Day

The fish markets on the cape are open on Labor Day. I know this is too far away for you - not to mention the traffic leaving the cape that day!!! If you do not want to freeze the fish you buy I have a great idea for keeping it fresh a day or so longer than usual. Get a few of those plastic blue blocks you put in coolers. Freeze them and put them on top of the fish in the meat drawer of your refrigerator. I read this tip in a magazine a few years ago and have been doing this ever since. It really works. I have passed this information on to friends and neighbors and they report excellent results. I live on the cape and fish is readily available here.

Fluffy debate -- fluffernutter sandwiches

No mallows. Marshmallow fluff is what is used in Massachusetts. It is manufactured by Durkee-Mower, Inc. Lynn, MA . For recipe ideas visit marshmallowfluff.com. Healthy or not my adult children loved them as kids. I still do - but in moderation these days.
