Thai Newbie Help in Phillt Burbs

Just passed the spot last weekend... Pho Thai Nam is closed or it got a new name or something!

Thai Newbie Help in Phillt Burbs

I second Thai Orchid (and I'm a tough critic) in Blue Bell.

Also, try White Elephant in Huntington Valley. They're excellent and award winning (I think they won Fox Philly best local something last year).

Avoid Pho Thai Nam in Blue Bell. Their pad thai tastes like chemicals.

Philly recs - casual?

If you're up for a trip into South Philly, check out Mr. Joe's cafe on 8th and Dickinson.

Dinner around 8th and Walnut

Another vote for Kanella if you like Greek food.

Ambler Donut Company???!!

Does anyone know the hours?

Date night in Montco

I was just about to suggest the same. Although that place is definitely kid friendly. Maybe go on the later side?

Or try Bocelli for something definitely cozier and more grown-up. It's in Lower Gwynnedd, definitely within your criteria.

Rosey's BBQ coming to Ambler!

We ate here in the Jenkintown location the other day for the first time. It was fabulous. The sides were by far the best part. The sweet potatoes are sweet and tasty, the greens wonderful and delicate, the mac and cheese decadent. The sweet tea is a little too sweet, but good (I prefer Jamawn's, the Great Restaurant winner in Bklyn).

Ambler Donut Company???!!

I am so stoked. Thanks for the update!

Seeking Proposal Dinner Recommendations (Philadelphia)

Congrats to both of you!! You can always head back to chowhound for catering/location suggestions. :)

Seeking Proposal Dinner Recommendations (Philadelphia)

My husband proposed outside of an In-and-Out Burger in San Francisco. Sounds corny, but it was so authentic to us. I think as long as it's meaningful to the two of you it will be a great location!

Greek festivals!

Thank you! That menu looks amazing!

Greek festivals!

It's okay, not the best really. I like their entrees better than their gyros.

Greek festivals!

Wow, I love St. Sophia's (VF)! I go back every year. Their loukomades and moussaka are fantastic. I also highly recommend their sampler platter if you can't decide.

Greek festivals!

Sweet! There was one in Atlantic City a couple of summers back, and they had the BEST baklava. I may try to find that one as well.

Greek festivals!

Greek festival season starts next weekend.

Annunciation Elkins Park is next weekend http://www.annunciation-elkinspark.org/Festival.dsp,

St. Sophia Valley Forge is the first weekend of June. http://www.stsophiavf.org/NewsEvents/SpringGrecianFestival2011.dsp

Any others that I'm missing?

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

I've heard breakfast at Kanella is outstanding and not overpriced.

What "New" Places are you planning on going to?

Is Dettera all that new? I've been going for a little while now. They had an amazing fig, goat cheese and arugula pizza last summer. And last Fall, their pumpkin bisque was like my favorite thing in the world!

Trevi in Glenside - at last, something good in the 'hood!

If you're in the hood on a Friday night, I'd recommend Ann's Kitchen Table - great food and really inexpensive too!

FAVORITE DISHES 2011

Moussaka at Kanella was pretty tasty
White bean burger and onion rings at PYT

$8 for a $100 gift certificate at Resturant.com! / Restaurant suggestions..

Just wanted to mention that they have a new promotion I found through travelzoo today. Code MOTHERS for 80% off restaurant.com coupon. I purchased one for Olive on 3rd.

Trevi in Glenside - at last, something good in the 'hood!

Laughing at the hoagie roll 1970 comment. That makes me less inclined to hit up this place. You have to have good crusty bread at an Italian restaurant!

Conshohocken area best

Yep, Franzones is the best pizza in Conshohocken or anywhere in Montgomery county!

Looking for lunch, NoLibs, Art Museum, etc

I recently ate at PYT and absolutely loved it. Delicious cheeseburgers and stuff like that.

Amada, Zahav or Kanella?

My vote is for Kanella. I found Amada overrated and overpriced. I've never been to Zahav. Kanella has a really beautiful little restaurant and some of the most interesting and delightful Greek food I've had yet.

Trevi in Glenside - at last, something good in the 'hood!

Thanks for the review! I've been a little reluctant to try it for two reasons - one, a bunch of one-sentence five-star reviews showed up on Yelp within minutes of each other by one-review reviewers, and two, it's way pricey. But maybe it's worth a shot. Got to be better than Rizzo's was right before it closed up shop.

I just checked on Yelp (looks like you copied your exact review there as well ;) and it looks like the Yelp Police have removed all the false reviews. I'll have to try it out so I can Yelp it as well.

Tuna Hoagies?

I personally love Pudge's tuna hoagie. Order a side of cheese fries and throw some of them on top, and you're all set. They have excellent sandwiches all around. You're making me hungry!

Finally had dinner at Dettera!

I agree about their pizzas! I absolutely loved the one with arugala, goat cheese, figs and marscapone. It had a drizzle of balsalmic vinegar on top that made it extra special.

ISO Donuts - Merrymead?

Update! We went this weekend on Sunday at open (10:30) and grabbed a couple donuts. They were fairly fresh, not so much hot from the oil though. Good, not great. Not up to Brown's standards. But not bad.

ISO Donuts - Merrymead?

Mag454 - thanks for the heads up! What time do we need to get there?

Chestnut Hill Lunch

McNally's has amazing sandwiches. They make a fresh baked ham, a turkey and chicken daily and use those in the sandwiches. Yum. My fave is the grilled ham and cheese. Just make sure you get the one with the fresh baked ham and ask for spicy mustard too. Yum. Oh man I may need to go there tonight. Drool.
