Argentine Grilled Tri-Tip

I live in Ventura County, Home of the Tri Tip. The easiest way to cook it is smoke it at 225 for 45 minutes or so (115 temp). Then grill it quickly, put a nice char on it. I use a julienne slicer on the outside of the meat & fat, then my rub (salt/pepper, garlic powder, crushed rosemary, thyme, onion powder, sugar, mustard powder, sweet paprika)-smoke it, sprinkle oil & grill it. (don't use fresh garlic, it burns during the char.
