One of my research group's annual dinners; black tie in Clare College great hall (for those unfamiliar with Oxbridge, think Hogwarts for a comparison), one of hundreds of formal dinners eaten there over eight years, but this stands out: Scallops with chilli sauce, Seared pigeon salad, Sea Bass, Venison 3 ways, Chocolate Fondant, Coffee and Petits Fours - all with (good) matched wines...
My current drink of choice:
Can't decide between a nice French Chablis (probably my favourite grape, though I'm also partial to the following: Rheingauer Reisling (Auslese or Spatlese, preferably), Bordeaux and Rioja) or a decent Highland/Island single malt.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Mustard and clove roast gammon with mixed roast veg.
My favorite comfort food:
For just recovering from illness, nothing beats marmite on toast! For a general "comfort food", it probably has to be an apple and blackberry crumble!
My most tattered cookbooks:
The textbook one my mother taught from, Dairy Diary One-pot and Year-round cookbooks, Mary Berry's "Complete Cookbook". Technically the BBC Food website!
