New to Boston; Jamaica Plain Restaurant Recommendations?

Best food I've had in a very long time! Excellent service, small but great wine list and cosy atmosphere! Well priced too!

Wine Bars in Boston

I'm going to have to disagree with Jimbob. The Navy Yard Bistro should not really call itself a wine bar. I live around the corner and dine there frequently for their delicious comfort food however after attending a wine dinner hosted by the very nice owner, John; I'd have to say that I think my 15 year old nephew has more wine knowledge than this man does! California wines dominate the list and there is little variation. One thing this place does have though, cheap high end wines (who ever prices them must have no idea what they are doing!)...Joseph Phelps Insignia for only 150, almost half the price of other establishments in Boston! Go for the food not the wine!

South Boston Recs

Potbellies...now renamed St. Alfonzo’s Kitchen (for legal reasons) is by far the best food in Southie! Lunch or dinner this tiny funky place always serves up delicious and well priced food. They have a beer and wine license now too so it is that much better...cool wine glasses too :) Highly recommended!!! Never had a bad meal!

Navy Yard Bistro and Wine Bar?????

This place has great affordable food! Tuna app is awesome and the salmon is always delicious! Seasonal changes to the menu keep us coming back. Chef always makes a great soup too. Wine list is very well priced but not very diverse. They have a ventilation problem that makes the dining room fill with smoke and sometimes kills the mood (and makes your clothes smell) but is usually dissipates quickly. Their entrees are "comfort food" in style very well priced however there is not much variation. All the steaks are served with mashed potatoes and asparagus and the special fish is always served with rice and a variation of a butter sauce. It gets old after a few visits. Another bit of advice..DO NOT sit at the bar!! Great view of the open kitchen but the bartender spends more time chatting and drinking wine than actually clearing your plates and checking in with his customers. Overall though this is a great place especially if you're on a budget. Service is good but not consistent; you'll get a cute energetic waitress one night and a boring and depressed one the next. We live close by but I'm told parking can be bad. The place is packed on Fridays and Saturdays so go early or late because reservations are not accepted!
