Worst Beer Ever?

No they are vastly different. My guess is you have little interest in dark beers and that's how most people are in USA. They are more popular in Europe

Worst Beer Ever?

Corona is useless and in those clear glass bottles looks like horse piss
Drinking that with lime slice was cool 20 years ago
But St Pauli Girl is going for $9 a twelve pack at one place
That is a bargain due to financial crisis? I get the dark

Help plan wedding menu -- must be cooked in advance (?) (!)

For another veggie dish.....
Ye old raw carrot sticks and celery with a dip
How about corn chips and salsa dip? Guacamole?
Have these dips in little mini plastic cups since
People don't want to dip into a common bowl

My simple comment is you need something hot. Hot food is welcoming. At the rate you are going you will have a cold spread only. You don't necessarily need a chafing dish. Get a big hot stew pot out there and insulate it and the heat will carry over

Tandoori chicken tastes even better the next day after being refrigerated. I would think about paying an Indian restaurant $50 or so to prepare a batch for you to pick up early in the AM or the day before and put in your refrigerator----If you can find space

Serve it cold or room temperature
Delicious and it stays moist since it is dark meat

Beef Bourguignon made day before will taste even better the next day as the flavors settle in, on your wedding day when it sits on your buffet table warmed up in a chafing dish. I would serve with a homemade mustard or horseradish sauce

Charlie Rose Interview w/ Jose Andres & Ferran Adria

Paula check this out which made me really like Ferran Adria
http://www.seriouseats.com/2008/10/fe...
Ed Levine did well but should have got them Cel Ray sodas not some idiotic egg cream in a paper cup. I get the whole "Madre Patria" thing where a Dominican is thrilled to speak to a Spaniard. Not in amillion years did he know who Ferran was though I'm sure he was clued in afterwards and teased

Adria and Andres never went to college. Their drive and hi IQ got them to where they are. Andres with an empire and Adria owning a foodie Mecca. Pure class all the way!

What a delightful interview of two charismatic men. And I am not a fan of molecular, consider it ridiculous. But I do admit it is the avant guard

frugal hints/tips/recipes for tough times

Eat more beans and not canned ones either. Start with the dried beans and split peas.

Is there anything that looks like nettles that will kill me?

Burdock is good sauteed with other vegetables. Pretend it is a carrot. You could roast along with a roast in the oven along with potatoes and onions. Or poultry done this way. It is in the thistle family same as artichokes

Is there anything that looks like nettles that will kill me?

I envy you. I moved south 10 years ago to where they do not grow. Up north I made a point of picking them a few times each year. It was a 25 mile round trip. That place had burdock so it was a twofer

Bon appetit!

Is there anything that looks like nettles that will kill me?

Yes the nettle sting bothers many people. You are right about picking the tender tops and the small plants. Nettles sink deep roots and have plenty of time to do that being perennials growing in patches. Deep roots mean lots of good trace minerals and iron rich

I would eat them every day if I could

Emeril's new show

Emeril cooked fatty buttery oily food for so long that it finally got him. I'm sure he has some undisclosed health issues. So now he has gone green but he looks like a blimp which means big carbon footprint not counting his private jets

World Tong Dinner

A Chinese American guy once told me that! We were talking about gambling and he said shares in restaurants were often put on the table and won or lost. That many Chinese eateries were divided into one tenth shares and that the principals owned 3-4-5-6 of these shares. Typical in a big city Chinatown he claimed . He was from Boston

Am I the only one with this absurd pet peeve about bagels and cream cheese?

I grew up with big schmears of cream cheese on bagels and bialys that were already toasted and buttered but cannot stand that gooey greasy stuff anymore. It is an artery clogger. I do make an exception once a month or so for the new no-fat and lo-fat cream cheeses. Philadelphia brand. Much healthier and have that cream cheese taste. Add some lox shreds and delicious! With some tomato and onion slice on the side

A question about ordering in Chinese restaurants

I agree
I like to eat the soup nice and hot and get that over and done
If they launch a blizzard of dished after that then no big deal though appetizers first would be nice

Soup is meant to be eaten before the meal
Not during the meal and this applies to most cultures

Is there anything that looks like nettles that will kill me?

I have gathered nettles
They grow alone in patches without other plants among them
Get a good photo off the internet, print it and take it with you if you are concerned

Nettles will make your hands itchy.....you will know for sure you have the right plant
I never bothered with gloves but you might want to after your nettles pass the itch test

They are very nutritious

Selling Tap Water as Bottled Water.... [moved from Los Angeles board]

Fizzy water helps your digestion especially if some lemon or lime is in it. This is why I hail in house filtered and carbonated water that is complimentary. It can give a restaurant a leg up in these tough times. In my imaginary restaurant customers could get unlimited refills of such with lemon and lime slices

Mario Battali has a new joint where you get filtered carbonated water at the table. Water is carbonated on the premises
This is sheer genius and what I would do if I owned a restaurant. We filter our own h2o at home

Which Indian cuisine makes Kabobs?

My simple assumption was that if I go to an Indian restaurant it is owned by a Hindu. My guess is this was just about always true if you went to an Indian restaurant 20-30 years ago. Yes there are many Muslims in India and virtually zero Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh. I have learned all this

But since I am old school I was kind of surprised to find (a few years ago) that Muslims and Pakistanis own many Indian restaurants in America. Things have changed from a few decades ago. What else can I say?
