Availability of Fresh Crab in Santa Barbara

I went to Kanaloa for a long time before I discovered the harbor fish market. You are right, glbtrtr, they used to only sell out of boats, but they now have a tremendous market available to the public. Haven't been to Kanaloa in a while. Is it work trying again?

Availability of Fresh Crab in Santa Barbara

I would recommend the Harbor Seafood Market - http://www.sbfish.com/
They supply fish and seafood to many restaurants and are top notch. Right on the Harbor. I would call them or stop by and place an order in advance, as this is a really busy time of year. Happy Holiday!

Dinner in Santa Monica on a Monday Night

Great advice. The smaller plates all look fantastic. Will go with your recommendations, although I think I need to find room for their roast chicken as well!

Dinner in Santa Monica on a Monday Night

Wienermobile and Servorg - we got a reservation at Rustic Canyon for Monday night. It looks like it will be a great meal, very much looking forward to it! Thanks for your recs and always sounds advise. I will report back.

Dinner in Santa Monica on a Monday Night

DineLA weeks are great with us - and the lunch offerings at Ocean Avenue Seafood look perfect for a Tuesday lunch before heading back up the coast. $22 for their three coarse lunch is a deal! We haven't dined there yet, so this seems like a no brainer. Thank you Nosh!

JiRaffe is a little pricey for what they offer, IMHO. We had a dinner there last year and while fine, I don't think we would return.

Ah, this looks great. The review by Exilekiss has my mouth watering for that chicken. It's one thing I never order out because it always seems to be a disappointment, but perhaps this may change my mind.

Dinner in Santa Monica on a Monday Night

My husband and I will be staying in Santa Monica on Monday, October 10 after coming back from a trip in NYC. We're spending the night before heading back up to Santa Barbara.

We love Fig, but they aren't open on Mondays, darn it! Any recs in Santa Monica are great appreciated. We eat everything. We would like to avoid Italian and sushi, since we'll be having that over the weekend in NYC.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

What's the Atmosphere at Oceana?

Wow - the link you sent was perfect for viewing the dining room. Loved it! I think my friends and family will love it. Many thanks for your input.

What's the Atmosphere at Oceana?

Thanks for the thumbs up RGR. Your photos are stunning - I'm now excited to be going to Oceana. I have been in charge of making the dining plans for our group and I wasn't sure about this pick, since I haven't been. Once again, The Chowhound community comes through! Many thanks.

What's the Atmosphere at Oceana?

I am relieved to hear your comments! Thank you. And good to know about the lower priced, but delicious wines available. I have a feeling a few bottles may be opened throughout the meal. ;)

What's the Atmosphere at Oceana?

Friends and family are gathering in NYC for a few days in October. My brother (coming from Amsterdam) really wants a good raw bar and seafood, and we have a Friday night reservation. We're all on board for this. (Thanks previous CH for the rec.)

I just want to make sure that Oceana won't be too stuffy or quiet for the 6 of us. We love good food and wine and we also have a great time when we're together.

We're not a bunch of stumbling drunks, by any means. But we love to converse and catch up during our meal.

Will this be a good match? Thanks again NY CH!

Good to know that Oceana is a wise choice, having not been. It doesn't seem to be a stuffy environment, which is what we are looking for, although we love find food and surroundings. The six of us can tend to enjoy ourselves a bit. Good fun, laughter and wine hopefully won't be a problem? ;)

Oceana is on the books for Friday night. We love Le Bernardin (had a fantastic lunch there last visit), and we would love to check the 'new' place out. But. Time restraints and other family members wish to dine at other places put a wrench in returning this time. Have you been to the recently opened Le Bernardin yet? I saw a thread earlier that had less than stellar remarks, which is a shame. I think LB is one of the finest meals I have ever had.

Thanks everyone for your advice! I will definitely report back. We will be in NYC October 6-10. I'll report on the spots we visit. Visits will include Del Posto, Minetta Tavern, Oceana, Morimoto, DBGB and possible other eats along the way. Cheers!

That sounds like a perfect meal to me. We have some time on Sunday to venture over - I am guessing we can just walk in for a seat at the bar? There will only be 2 of us on Sunday.

Got it - Thank you Kathryn!

Balthazar seems to be consistent, year after year, but we've done it before so we wanted to try something new. I love all that is Boulud and haven't been to DBGB yet. Did you sit in the bar area for drinks and apps Simon? Or did you do a full dinner? It looks like drinks and oysters would be a perfect pre-dinner solution. And their charcuterie looks great too.

15 East looks great. Isn't Morimoto in Chelsea Market? My self and my brother are really adventurous eaters, so 15 East looks solid in its traditional sushi and sashimi offerings. The other 4 diners for the night on the safer side of things.. rolls, cooked dishes, etc., which is why Morimoto might be a better fit. Although I see 15East serves lunch. My brother and I might have to sneak away for a couple hours on Saturday...

Oh boy, now I am confused! This is why I should stay in NYC longer than 4 days. Luckily, we get to the East Coast about once a year...

The plans for now are Friday night at Oceana and Saturday night at Morimoto. We picked Morimoto because one of our friends isn't that keen on nigiri and sashimi. I think his exact quote was "I'll just grab a burger afterward." Morimoto's entrees and cooked items would definitely appeal to him. Oceana got a vote, even though it's not in the Village, but it looks lovely and my raw bar brother would a happy guy.

We've been to BRB and BRS - love both, so we thought we'd try something different, plus the no reservations for a Saturday night for 6 could be a problem.

Combining the seafood/sushi meal at Lure could work, then we would plan another meal for Saturday. FYI, we're already eating at Del Posto, Momofuko Ssam for Duck lunch and Minetta Tavern.

Is Lure worth changing up our Fri and Sat dinners? Thoughts? Thanks so much!

Celebratory (and send off brunch) in Chelsea for 6

I am joining friends and family for a long weekend in October. We are looking for a lovely brunch as a farewell before we all go our separate ways *boo*.

We are all staying at the Standard and would like to stay in the area due to airport/travel plans.

Thanks so much for your help!

Seafood/Raw Bar Recs in The Village

Oceana gets good reviews from CH. I know it's in midtown, but it looks like it might be worth a cab ride! Morimoto in Chelsea seems like a festive place to celebrate for another dinner. I think my brother would love it. What do you think of these two choices? Any other recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm coming to NYC in October and meeting family and friends coming from Amsterdam. We are looking for a dinner of great seafood and raw bar. Have been looking at Aquagrill. Any other suggestions? We are huge fans of food - we eat it all! Many thanks in advance! There will be 6 of us. Also, any great sushi places for another dinner? Thank you all.

Rijsttafel in LA?

We'll be spending most of the day on the Westside, but we're coming up the coast from Santa Barbara, so we're pretty flexible. Does Santa Monica/Venice area have some decent Indonesian? Thanks!

Rijsttafel in LA?

I just found the Ramayani website and they are not open on Mondays, which is the day we will be in the LA area. Darn it! 2nd rec anyone? Thanks again!

Rijsttafel in LA?

Bradbury, you are right about the Indonesian-Dutch connection. I married a 'Dutchie' and he is hankering for some great rijstaffel! Looks like Ramayani might be the ticket. We may, however only be in the LA area for lunch and they only serve rijstaffel on the dinner menu. If we decide to do Indo for lunch, is Ramayani still the place to go, or does anyone recommend other options? Thanks!

Is there a great Indonesian restaurant that serves Rijsttafel? If not, a great Indonesian place would be a great find. I only found some older posts on CH. Looking for some recent recs? Thanks all!

Question for Langer's #19 fans

I second the hot tongue sandwich. Didn't even know I liked tongue. Well cured, sliced thin and piled high, very tender. And when my DH ordered the #19 I got the best of both worlds!
