Any restaurants you can recommend for Venice,FL area?

I like Pelican Alley, live within walking distance, and go there all the time. The only area they're weak in is the quality of their rolls and their house salads. Their fried grouper finger sandwich, with bacon and cheese is world class. They pour a nice drink at their bar and those who wish to save money can find many happy hour specials.

Classic dive bars and Tiki Bars in San Diego/Oceanside

London West End Pub on Turquoise in PB is the ultimate dive bar on the planet. Very cheap and strong drinks, two fisted drinkers, local crowd, the "West End" opens at 6AM. This place eats yuppies alive and is in the big leagues. A couple of drinks and you will be wasted. Plus, the best taco joint in town, Dos Pedros, is a couple of doors away. Dos Pedros is a real sketchy place, with world class food to fill up your stomach after a night drinking.

Any restaurants you can recommend for Venice,FL area?

Casey Key Fish House, up on Blackburn Road is an excellent place, and it has a view to boot. Fresh seafood and the biggest grouper sandwich in the area.

Best free bread in NYC restaurants?

Upstairs is so hit and miss. Sometimes they are on their A game, but usually they are playing their D game. This includes service, the food itself, and the presentation.

La Bonne Soup - Anyone been?

Great, awesome burgers.

jury duty lunch

Bouley upstairs has gone downhill recently Their sanitation is suspect, and I had to return dirty silverware the past couple of visits. I don't know if this is a temporary thing, or will be permanent, as his other places are OK. I like the Belgian place next door, which has a better burger than Bouley, and the waffles are to die for

Been to Daisy May's recently?

As a Southern Boy, I can honestly say that Daisy May's sucks. They can't even do sweet tea right. A low end chain like Sonny's or Woody's makes better BBQ than Daisy May's.

Korean BBQ vs. Daisy May's

As a person who equally divides their time between the delights of Manhattan and the sultry South, when I hear Daisy May's name mentioned, I try to tell people who know BBQ to run away fast. Their dry rubbed ribs are extra dry, their wet ribs are clumpy with congealed sauce that's not even, and frankly doesn't taste that well. The side dishes are OK, but their red eye gravy is not real red eye and should be avoided at all costs. They even manage to blow their advertised sweet tea in the mason jar by putting in about four sprigs of mint, which is a no no in the real South. You might get away with it in Louisville, but.......I had a bit of sticker shock, as for two of us the bill was $68. Frankly, I would be better off getting my BBQ in the South at a chain like Sonny's or Woody's, which has much better food than Daisy May's.

6 days in Venice, Florida, any good bars/pubs/restos?

That's in Nokomis. Right next door to Pop's is Pelican Alley which can be real good on the right night. Pelican Alley used to be the best place in Nokomis, but the new management has changed that.

venice, florida...come on, chowhounds!

Luna has the best Italian food in Venice, case closed. Their pizza is like heaven, and their other dishes are great. We go there at least once a week. They accept no credit cards, but will take a check. There are two locations, one downtown Venice, and the original which is in South Venice across from Wal Mart.
