BEEF Rendang in DFW

not supposed to be "authentic" . . . the owner of the recipe was, purportedly, aussie (australian) . . . this is just his version . . . not meant to be authentic.

if you want authentic malaysian food . . . ain't gonna' find it in dallas . . . gotta' drive down to houston . . . at least two authentic malaysian diners in "little-asia".

Best BBQ in DFW?

actually . . . 40 miles south of downtown dallas . . . interstate 45 (central expwy south) . . . between ennis-city 'n corsicana-city . . . tiny town of alma . . . the place is called "alma smokehouse bbq" . . . mile-marker 246 for you road-freaks (truckers).

often time the owner runs outta' the ribs . . . which proves he simply refuses to 'land-slide' (left-overs) stuff for the next day.

if ordering simple sandwich . . . and you want the 'real taste' . . . ask for "bit of bark 'n fat" . . . really turns the tide. as for myself, i go all the way . . . jalapenos 'n onions 'n pickles . . . makes the jowls tingle slightly. hey . . . i travel this route everyday.

seriously . . . merry christmas to one and all.

love you guys . . . keep posting.

BEST Indian Food [Dallas]

while it is true . . . taj-express has gone thru some changes . . . late 2009, original owners went back home to india . . . some other indians took over . . . horrible and very unsanitary were the new owners.

but, late 2010, another new owner took over . . . raised the prices (5.99 raised to 7.99) . . . and brought some fabulous new dishes into the buffet table. i was stunned . . . and very happy with the outcome.

taj-express has been reincarnated . . . and with joyous results. they now offer chicken makhni (only on fridays) . . . better than butter-chicken / tikka-masala with the big boys in town . . . much tastier. and for 7.99 lunch . . . compared to 9.99 at big boys . . . seriously, give taj-express another chance.

i been going there, now, every week friday (only day serving makhni) . . . pls try them again.

they are closed sundays (all day).

beer-batter fish 'n chips in dallas ?

been meaning to try the "old monk" there on knox / henderson . . . never got around to doing so . . . sorry, friends.

in fact . . . regretfully, i was scouring the internet last week . . . came upon "meddlesome-moth" . . . the owner has several other successful enterprises.

well . . . thought i would drop in "m-m" (oak-lawn / i-35) after work this afternoon.

the ambiance is atypical . . . $60k bar made from pewter . . . three windows salvaged "ornately" from hard-rock-cafe (dallas) . . . and some of the most expensive beer-batter fish 'n chips i have ever come across . . . crikey ! ! !

yes, the staff went outta' their way to make me feel comfortable . . . just that the food was so over-priced. yep, i got filled up . . . filled with fat 'n flour . . . very greasy, pancake-battered, large fish-fillets. and, make no mistake, it was grotesquely greasy ! ok, the fish did not taste "fishy" . . . once you scraped off half-pound of flour-batter.

the price . . . a staggering $13.5 . . . included three / four fillets (haddock, i think) . . . and five / six very thick french fries (not kidding).

absolutely avoid this place and all places owned by this "entrepreneur" . . . seems he'd rather be "chique" than offer tasty food.

Any Philipino restraunts in DFW?

new member here . . . the filipino editorials had interest to me . . . i wish to share also.

as for chellie's request . . . try www.golden-crest.com/index.php?id=14 for locations specializing in filipino products / distribution.

as for d-kusina . . . they have a webpage which includes address / times / menu : www.philconnect.com/dkusina/index.html

as for filipiniana in bedford . . . i also was very disappointed in the lack of authentic taste . . . agreed tarilyn.

as for palayok closing . . . that was very sad . . . the only location in dfw that had halfway authentic filipino selections. even so, i remember trying to order tapa at palayok . . . they served a pork-chop . . . hahaha. anyway, i am sharing this e-mail in regard to palayok's closing :

>>The owner had to give up the restaurant for health reasons. They wanted to sell it but it seems there were no takers although I heard somebody bought their equipments and will put up another restaurant in a different location. If you are looking for another Filipino restaurant, try New Manila Bakery and Mart near East Field College, La Prada St., almost 1/4 mile from I-30.

this is just my opinion . . . but it might be worth your time to drive down to houston. just a four-hour drive . . . and one can find many filipino restaurants with really authentic filipino foods. additionally, most offer all-day buffets.
