Empanada discs in Phoenix?

You can actually find them closer to the central Phoenix area at Guate Latino Market on 24th St/Osborn.

az rw report - lon's at the hermosa

Thank you for this review! I have been wondering how Lons would be; it's at the top of my list. I'm having a hard time deciding. It's between that and Bourbon Steak, and Cowboy Ciao. Wish I could go to all 3...but I'm leaning towards Lons. The shrimp ravioli sounds superb

AZ Restaurant Week - Sep 20-26: Where to go?

I'm thinking about going to Lon's. Never been there, but I've always wanted to try it. I figure we could always go to Cowboy Ciao and eat anytime...Lons isn't anywhere that I'd keep in mind for a dinner. Something like this would be perfect to try it. How do you guys feel about it?

Also, does anyone know what will be on Cowboy Ciao's menu?

Latino Express anyone? (Scottsdale)

Does anyone remember a little fast food restaurant called Latino Express near Via Linda and 91st street? It was owned by Chef Razz of Razz's Restaurant and Catering, and sadly it was closed down after a short run. They had delicious items such as chicken with plantains and black beans, and out of this world arroz con pollo.

Anyway, I've been thinking about that lately and was wondering if anyone has been to Razz's Restaurant. It seems more like contemporary American cuisine based off the menu. I havent heard anything about it...

Plaza Grill- Cave Creek

I was reading Howie's review today on azcentral, and I can't WAIT to try this. I'm so happy to hear Moises Treves and the Matas have opened a new restaurant.

I believe that Moises is no longer running Such Is Life, is this correct? Last time I went there it was HORRIBLE.

Phoenix Pizza - Oreganos?

Echoing the posts of most other people here, Oregano's isn't anything special, although it's not totally inedible either. The pizza is decent, just not worth a 2 plus hour wait.

Also, I know Chris Bianco is a god in this town, but I find PB a tad overrated. Their pizza is excellent, don't get me wrong, and I would reccomend it to an out of towner, but I find it hard to wait 4 hours for it.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Spinato's. The deep dish pizza (pepperoni and garlic is my personal recco) is AMAZING. You can't go wrong with that. I've also been wanting to try CIP for a while now...

Also, I just saw Ra Sushi won best sushi...yuck. That should tell you something right there.

AZCentral.com - best of?

Ok, does anyone know the average demographic (or intelligence level for that matter) of an AzCentral Reader?? Judging by some of the comments on the other articles, I wouldn't say they're targeting the brightest and most cultured people. That said, I will go on record as saying Oregano's has some very good pizza and salads, and great wings. However, "best pizza" and "place most worth the wait"?? Come on.

AZDumpling hit it right on the head when he said 70% of restaurants in central Phoenix are mediocre, and are only hyped by people who generally do not have good taste. Most people here gravitate towards simple, family style restaurants that serve chain style food, so this is no surprise to me.

Lunch on Central? (Phoenix, AZ)

I'll second Pino's. They have calzones to die for. And China Chili (which used to be on Central) is on 3rd ave and Virginia--worth the very short drive.

Mexican near downtown Phoenix

When you say "Americanized", do you mean ambience-wise? As in you want a nice place to sit down and eat? I think Carolinas is pretty Americanized and not true Mexican food at all. But if you're talking about surroundings, Mi Patio on 7th Ave and Osborn will fit the bill. Nothing outstanding, but it fits the criteria...

This Saturday night, moderate price rest. in Phoenix?

I would reccomend Fate. It's Asian fusion food, so it's very Americanized, but it's around $10 a plate and quite good. The setting is very trendy; it's set in an older home, and decorated very avant garde. There's even a DJ in a loft of the house that spins drum and bass. But you have to make a reservation; for some reason they are very particular about this even though it never seems to be full outside of First Fridays. There's even a really cool little bar next door to have a few drinks afterward if you have time.

Thanks for the Recs, Here are the Reviews..(PHX)

101 Bistro's food is passable at best. You didn't miss out on anything there.

As a native Phoenician, I'm a little ashamed that our downtown restaurants plain and simply suck. Aside from Pizzeria Bianco and maybe Cibo and maaaybe Fate, there's nothing worth going down there for (for dinner). It's a shame, especially since we're trying to give that area some life...

Mother's Day Brunch-PHX

T Cook's at the Royal Palms has a great brunch. Their buffet is also worth it at $25 a person...crab legs, shrimp, cheeses, meats, and breakfast foods.

Tucson - 1 night with kid

A super casual (and I do emphasize CASUAL) little spot for some of the best wings is Wings Over Broadway. Burgers, fries, and hot wings...pretty standard teen fare. Also, the B Line cafe has a broad selection and is a cute little cafe. They have pasta, tacos, sandwiches and salads. The atmosphere is very cozy. It would be perfect at night for a nice dinner.

N9ne steakhouse is a fun atmosphere with great steaks...try the surf and turf--a filet mignon topped with lobster and served in balsamic vinegar. To die for!

Looking for a bar with large lounge space in Scottsdale area

I haven't been there in a while, but Six is great and the food was delicious. I went there for their "Taste" event, which was like their culinary fest. The food was great; sushi, calamari, cheese, and a beef tenderloin sandwich were standouts. I am not sure if these are on their regular menu. Cool place to chill and have a few drinks, but not really an atmosphere for "catching up". Great for mixing around and people watching.

HELP! Looking for Good Breakfast in Phoenix

Matt's is good, but I don't know if it's worth the wait. We got there at 10am on a Sunday morning and waited an hour before realizing we weren't anywhere close to being seated. We left and went to First Watch (eehh). Orange Table is unimpressive and overpriced. A veggie omlette there with bacon was $11 and not worth it, but the lattes are outstanding! Barrio Cafe has a great brunch on Sunday mornings...reasonably priced and delicious. Try their chorizo crepes, and their coffee is served in a French Press :) And Wildflower Cafe has a great breakfast selection with minimal wait time.

Any recommendations for Tempe, Arizona?

Apologies if anyone's mentioned this...but Cheba Hut on Hardy and University is definitely a guilty pleasure. They're a local toasted sub type joint...think Quiznos but ten times better and cheaper. Their Jamaican Red is to die for!

(PHX) LGO: Why all the haters?

Don't shoot...but I think LGO is overrated. The pizza is good, don't get me wrong, but it's nothing I would go out of my way for. I found it to be overly greasy, and the quality is that of a chain restaurant. To me, it's on par with Oregano's pizza--not bad at all, but nothing unique; I don' t get the hype. I will say that I do enjoy the breakfasts and breads there.

I guess the attention and fervor just goes to show that we need more quality restaurants in central Phoenix.

Empanadas- Phoenix

I just drove by my favorite South American grocery store- El Panamericano on 24th st/Osborn-- only to find it has shut down! Does anyone know if and where it has relocated? And if it's shut down for good, can anyone tell me where I can get empanada dough (a great South American grocery store would be nice).

Also, does anyone have any good reccomendations, restaurant-wise, for empanadas?

Where is the Best Pho in AZ?

I LOVE Miss Saigon. A little off topic, but their chicken curry over vermicelli is to die for, and I get it every time I'm in Tucson.

I say taco you say taco

I have yet to find a carne asada taco in Phoenix that has really stood out to me. I guess it's hard to live up to the Rosarito/Rocky point tacos I guitily love! As far as the gravy comment goes--Asadero's (west phx) meat does have somewhat of a "gravy" or sauce, and the meat is softer than what you would regularly find elsewhere.

White toro? Kyoto (PHX)

I have found Kyoto to have surprisingly cheap prices for consistently great sushi. Their toro is always fresh and it's good stuff. Try their beef tataki with ponzu sauce; guarenteed you won't be disappointed.
