Hello Hazelhurst, we had a most fantastic Friday lunch at Galatoire's! We took our time and did it right... Started with a couple of bloody Mary's waiting in the bar to be brought over for lunch. We had several apps with some Duckhorn chard including escargot, shrimp remoulade and soufflé potatoes. After a couple of hours we ordered entrees and sides. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his first Friday lunch and the people watching did not disappoint! Thank you for all of your help! See you again soon.

Hazelhurst, if I were to go to Galatoire's this coming Friday for lunch what time would I need to get in line? There will be just two of us dining. Better yet, how do I find someone to pay to stand in line for me?;)

I'm sorry File Man, perhaps you misread my wording. I said pace not place...

We probably should have only done two days at that pace! Also , I apologize for the atrocious punctuation in my recap. It was all done on my phone and I simply did not even try.

Okay, this is only seven months late but better than never! Here's what our group ended up doing... We flew in early Wednesday and after meeting the rest of our people we took a cab to Dooky Chase for lunch. We all had the buffet and ordered a couple of sides of Mac and cheese for the table as well as mint juleps and mimosas. It was good food and the service was attentive and uber polite. After strolling around all day we went to Irene's for a late dinner. Wow! I loved all of it from the fantastic service to the cramped but fun loving atmosphere. I ate soft shell crab as an entree and we ordered several apps including oysters Irene. My mom loved the chicken Rosemarino!
Thursday was kind of an early lunch at August. Half of our group loved their meal and the ambience while the other half thought it was just okay. Our service was very stiff but chalked it up to him being new...we had apps of foie gras and potato gnocchi as well as others and my pork belly entree was superb the flavors were layered and well thought out. All in all I'm glad we went to August but am not in a huge hurry to return. Thursday afternoon/early evening we did the Royal Street Stroll. Ahhhh,Thursday dinner... We ate at the venerable Galatoires. My father and I had been there several times so we ordered tons of appetizers for the table and slowly are and drank and talked. I know for sure we had shrimp remoulade, soufflé potatoes, fried eggplant and oysters Rockefeller. We all had imbibed a great deal by this point and leisurely ordered entrees and my crabmeat gratin was wonderful and rich. I love Galatoires.
Friday we had a quick and late lunch at The Gumbo Shop which was filling and good for a hangover. Later that afternoon we took a cab to Pascals Manale and had a few dozen oysters and a few cocktails. The oysters were great and I think I need to make a trip there for a full meal! Friday night we had a late dinner at NOLA. Our service was great and the friendliest we had but also knowledgable and professional. We started with stuffed chicken wings and boudin balls and we all shared entrees including shrimp and grits, fried chicken, filet and porkchop. Overall we had a great dining experience at NOLA.

Saturday was a very underwhelming brunch at Stanley, we had to wait over an hour to get in and the service was harried and food just okay. Saturday PM was at the lovely Coquette. We started with apps the only one I remember being short ribs and I had shrimp and grits for an entree. This was my ( vegetarian) sisters favorite meal as they were very accommodating to her needs. Overall Coquette was a fantastic dinner with lots of good wine!

The trip ends with Commanders brunch on Sunday. I had a crawfish omelet which was good but not great and a great simple dessert the strawberry shortcake. I think we were all kind of fooded out by then! It was a great trip and I gained a good 15 pounds by the end of it! Thank you all for your help!

Thanks again everyone! We are meeting my husbands dads in NOLA (they are from Carmel) and while we have eaten at Commanders (good times!). Two in our group have not and really want to...I think we will keep our Sunday brunch reservation but am still curious as to whether or not restaurant hopping on Friday night is an option..? We still have no reservations for Friday day or night.

Thank you all for your replies! I am curious about maybe doing dinner hopping on Friday night... There will only be five of us left at that point. Is this feasible or should we just make reservations at one of your great recs? I just like the idea of trying several places...

Hi all! I'm a long time lurker and like most people, would like a little dining advice for a trip coming up later this month. TIA and here goes: We arrive in NOLA on Wednesday may 22 and have lunch planned at Dooky Chase and dinner that night at Galatoire's(my fave). Thursday is an early lunch at August then we are going to the Royal Street Stroll and a late dinner that night at Irene's. Friday and Saturday are kind of up in the air, we are definitely going to Coquette one of those nights because I've heard it's great and I have a gift certificate:). Otherwise we are thinking of several places, including Jacques Imo's, Bayona, Stanley, and Pascal's Manale. We will finish our trip with Commanders jazz brunch on Sunday and probably grab a sandwich from Parkway on the way to catch a late flight. So... What to do on Friday and Saturday? All recommendations are greatly appreciated. I just love hearing from all you foodies! Thanks again.
