Italy Itinerary Help

agreed on da adolfo - looking forward to that

go take a look at next2 - we are hopeful on that as well

also there are a number of good places up the hill in Monterpertuso that you may want to check.........my issue increasingly with hotel concierges is all the side deals they have going so not necessarily in your best issue but helps line the pockets :)

are you staying at ISP? If so then I do think Giuseppe will set you straight I would hope.

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

well still undecided on our Monday lunch

Very well opt for something simple like heading to Il Forno in Campo

But if we get motivated how is Renato e Luisa as an option (haven't checked for august closure but I couldn't see anything on the web site save something about December I think)? Can we get away with a light lunch of maybe appetizer and a pasta?

As always

Grazie

Getting excited - we leave for Switzerland on Wednesday!!

Help! Last minute crisis! Armando or Flavio??

So have been reading some back and forth................we only have four nights in Rome of which three are really spoken for

i had been excited to go with Liz's recommendation of Flavio with the rooftop etc and the fact we would push into Testacio (albeit when dark) but now after reading Jen's comments (probably the other I most listen to!!!) I am seriously re-considering replacing with Da Armando al Pantheon (which would also be easier from our Excelsior lodging).

My hope for that night is more classic Roman in a casual friendly atmosphere more locals usually (it will be August though) than tourists and of course great food................needs to appease my wife the veg who eats seafood and my 14-year old teenager.

Any last minute suggestions most appreciated..............we do still have a little time!

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

hah thanks no I don't have anything better to do for the next ten days!! :) and yes definitely it is very nice to know on the westin - not sure how I missed it...?!

even positano?? that looks like a weatherman's dream??!!

I am really only concerned with the weather in Luzern as all we have planned (boating on the lake and hitting mt pilatus) are all predicated on good weather. To my prior point I am also presuming positano for the most part will be gorgeous.............fingers crossed on each!!!

ROME Report: Roscioli, Antico Arco, La Gensola, Perilli, Checchino, Sorpasso, and my impressions on Carbonara

Precisely Barb I think everyone has their own agenda.........there is no way I am at all as sophisticated in terms of the knowledge around menus as most here but for me atmosphere takes on a large part of the motivation to go to a certain spot which I am sure is crazy to some.........but even with my palate I find so many posts like this one on here incredibly helpful in trying to understand the overall experience

hopefully I will have some good reports from our journeys!

definitely getting meatballs for the 14 year old at Roscioli!!!

hah barb you are the BEST!

thanks for providing me another website to while away the hours lol!!! sounds like a cool website.............I also travel a fair amount on business so will definitely take a spin through

awesome on the excelsior - nice find! definitely a just get to the hotel option...........

you know we are close when the first day of our trip is now inside the ten day forecast...........now we just need to wish some good weather to Luzern as it looks a little spotty!

thanks a million for all the above!

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

oh absolutely.................just want to know my options....the hotel is the one who suggested two hours with a guide.....plus I have a bad hip so am not going to be up for extensive meandering - two hours plus a visit to the Archaeological Museum in Naples should do it justice i hope.............that was part of the allure of ceprano as it is straight on the highway.............but yes if there appears to be a decent option as we are pulling out we will see how we feel................how is the drive - scenic?

thanks Steve - definitely another option!! I think that may be right on Colline.....for some reason i seem to remember it not working now that I think of it

i think you missed the link?

liked what I saw on moulin rouge in ceprano.............

http://www.mouljnrougevillage.it/inde...

I like going there over castro dei volsci as it seems right along the highway....compared to the prices we are paying elsewhere this is going to be quite a deal!!!

edit: have sent a note to the concierge at ISP to get any thougths from them as well...........stopping for lunch seems the most rationale course of action :)

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

:)

I am hoping so at Sorpasso as well since that is the Imago day.....

great ideas thanks Jen............appreciate the ideas of a stop along the way - may just be the best way to break up a long drive - and thanks for the research on when open.....I do wish we would have departed a little earlier for this trip and actually could have - was just afraid of conflicting with a certain 14 year old's baseball schedule...ah well as I am discovering there are ample places still running in August in both Rome and Paris (where I did have a bunch of Aug closure hits to our original list...)

off to go research those two!!!

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

haha that is exactly my worry Barb!!! great idea on the picnic although might be a bit too entrepreneurial for us! :)

Jen it will be Friday Aug 2..............

we have so many good meals lined up throughout the vaca we may as well just throw in the towel on this one meal........

Positano on the schedule is Zass, Next2 and La Sponda for dinners with one open: Carlino, Lo Scoglio (Nerano) and Da Adolfo for lunches

Rome is dinners at Ristorante Paris, Roscioli, Flavio al Velavevodetto and Imago; lunches at dar Poeta and Il Sorpasso - we are deferring to our guide on one lunch

and then we have six lunches and dinners in Paris!

so like I said I think we are in good shape..............and after all that a sandwich by the side of the road may not be too bad either lol!

thanks jen and barb - yeah I think it may come down to six of one.........

plan is - with private driver and tour guide

8am - depart positano
9am-ish - tour Pompei
11:30am - depart Pompeii
2:00pm arrive at Excelsior

yes I have noted colline! it is on my list.........

grazie!

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

thanks for the detailed response.............we are actually in Naples prior to Positano

We are not taking the train we are driving by private car so I think the idea is to not take up more hours and just get to Rome...........so back to Via Veneto??!

Is it possible to have a decent lunch in Via Veneto?!

We will be arriving into Rome around 2pm after a full morning of Pompei and then the ride to Rome............we are staying at the Excelsior and presume all will be fairly tired and want something convenient - just worried that our first dining experience in Rome is tainted!

Anyway suggestions as always much appreciated.

Grazie!

Montepertuso (Positano)

will do on all!! great idea on the take-out!

I just like the feel and the menu of next2 so that has been set for some time..............and apparently the owners are part of the same family that runs ISP so that should help our experience I would hope!

not too far off now!!!

Montepertuso (Positano)

thanks ekc...............sorry have been jammed with work

we actually have four dinners two of which are definitely fixed..........one at ISP and one at Next2

we currently are booked at La Sponda but am re-thinking for our last night.........could be one more at ISP depending on all and our son etc

but taverna seems perfect for our charter day.................we will have been on a boat all day and really want something relaxed............even if we order room service back at ISP I think it is still the Zass menu.........so this seems to be a grat option - grazie!!

off to go check.................

Montepertuso (Positano)

thanks erica the shuttle is mainly to town but we don't mind a taxi - if it isn't that bad I am inclined to go for it - we are going to play by ear - as you really should in positano I think lol!

August dinner in Trastevere

thanks to Elizabeth Minchilli I would also now add Flavio Al Velavevodetto in Testaccio to the mix - I am also liking this aspect because we previously were not fitting this neighborhood into our plans....

August dinner in Trastevere

well back on this so thought I would try to re-start with a different question...........

Le Mani or La Scala for a second Trastevere restaurant?

Montepertuso (Positano)

thanks all - there is no way we would even drive so that isn't the issue - I am just worried about her simply being in the car - lisa's comment had me convinced it wouldn't work but now jen and johnny have me still wanting to try to go for it??!!

jen do you have a preference of the three?

Montepertuso (Positano)

If you could pick one of da Constantino or La Terra which would you chose?

I have ruled out La Tagliata as my wife is a veg (see eats seafood) and all the seconds seemed to be meats...

Thanks

(also how bad of a drive is it from il san pietro - in that regard 15 minutes or so doesn't bother me but how winding is the drive? she is a veg who isn't a huge fan of treacherous mountainous roads..............)

Different question - should we replace Ad Hoc with Le Mani?

August dinner in Trastevere

We had settled on Ristorante Paris because it is convenient to the Piazza Santa Maria where we hoped to take in an aperitivo at one of the cafes before dinner........

But am now discovering Trattoria Da Teo and Le Mani in Pasta

I ahve a bad hip so walking far (more than 10 minutes) is not really an option - I would do a short cab from Santa Maria to the others if not too obnoxious

Thoughts??

Next2 in Positano

Is it as good as all on TripAdvisor say it is?

Any other good places in town that are recommended? Casual good food great atmosphere are high on the list - doesn't need to be too foodie as we have the 14 year old with us - as a frame of reference Next2 does look really good and I have enjoyed reviewing their menu.

Grazie

Anyone have info on Ad Hoc in Rome?

Interested in the response as well...................

We intend to dine there this august when we are there
- I will say that the personal response from the restaurant GM when we booked on line was pretty impressive............I also really liked the menu

unless there is an outpouring of negativity - which I doubt - we are in
