HELP!!!

eek im not a fan of the Court of Two Sisters' brunch. maybe for a first visit.

i much prefer Sylvain's brunch, it's very good and they have a nice courtyard. best grits in town.

Mega Visit -- Trip Report In Progress

we're fans. steak tartare is excellent, as is the "mac & cheese". house-made cocnut sorbee with raspberry sauce is a smooth dessert.

Mega Visit -- Trip Report In Progress

agreed on the Domenica squid ink tagliolini -- it is the bomb. short ribs as well.

Chris DeBarr leaving Green Goddess!

he was, i believe. he left a different restaurant to start GG, and had another chef do the lunch service.

Chris DeBarr leaving Green Goddess!

awesome. i loved his food at GG, and his personality. but due to the severely limiting size could not visit often enough.

cant wait to try the new location.

San Francisco Hound Coming to New Orleans: Please Critique My List for My First Visit!!!

again, i disagree...i think the dishes i mentioned are in fact good -- not everything has to be August or Emeril's, and thats okay. true they have too many items on the menu and some arent worth it, but the dishes i mentioned are. and the fried chicken our favorite anywhere. our guests always enjoy it and have great fun to boot.

but maybe my tastes are just mediocre at best?

San Francisco Hound Coming to New Orleans: Please Critique My List for My First Visit!!!

Sazerac Bar makes a good sazerac.

as for whether a muff is wasting time -- all depends on what you like. my father loves cured meats and olives, so not a waste for him.

San Francisco Hound Coming to New Orleans: Please Critique My List for My First Visit!!!

as a defender of Jacque-Imo's ill pipe in -- i think its great fun. funky atmosphere, unusual dishses you wont find in SF (such as Alligator Cheesecake, deep-fried roast beef poboy, seafood stuffed pork chop, etc)...plus kickass fried chicken. some good music bars nearby too, so it's a culture win.

Looking for great steaks!

well, i had a disappointing experience as well, some years back. they overcooked my (MR) kobe but didnt want to fix the problem. was a big hoopla. havent returned since... tho i am warming to the idea again. (get it? warming! i kill me...)

Sweet Olive

he has to keep something operating there, he built out the restaurant.

Best Sushi in New Orleans?

will have to check that out when we want to get our fresh on.

kinda like the phrase "the best camera is the one you have on you", i find "the best sushi joint is the one you go to the most" to hold true...Wasabi is closest to us so its where we go most often, but we're gonna try some new options.

Best Sushi in New Orleans?

i used to live in San Diego and ate a lot of sushi on a regular basis. has anyone noticed that in new orleans, there is an absurd tradition of imitation-crab-mayo dressing used to fill a majority of speciality rolls? nearly every shop weve hit has their rolls loaded w/ this stuff. kinda negates the whole fresh-food thing for us, so we have to order carefully.

amazingly, Wasabi's "Snowcrab Roll" uses only imitation krab, not opolio or any other real crab.

Sweet Olive

as noted in the comments, the all-white-and-glass space was really bad. just not a warm or welcoming place to be. tacky lighting, etc..

wish him better luck in the next endeavor.

my "slightly off the beaten path" meal report

we actually like The Joint's potato salad. the creole mustard in it especially. beans are good, and the Mac n cheese doesn't bother me a bit.

I'd say they got better with the move -- new smoker, maybe? fall of the bone pork ribs are the bomb, and the pulled pork is great.

Looking for the Soul of New Orleans

Nitpick - Cake Cafe is in Maringy, not Bywater. Bywater starts free Press at the tracks.

Commander's Palace Questions

another vote - I suspect that folks won't be staring at other patrons ankles too much. (tho even with capris would that not till be visible?)

Looking for great steaks!

I've never thought Mr. John's was touristy.

Looking for great steaks!

+1 Mr. Johns.

Nawlins Trip Advice

exactly, bill. Parkway is not the best in the world, but it's consistently pretty good (personally i would use less filling as they can get a bit soggy). i contrast this w/ Johnny's where ive received watery sliced rb not unlike Mother's.

Dozen Best Fried Chicken Restaurants list from nomenu.com

johnb - the difference w/ a larger news org like the TP, is that the advertising is handling entirely by a different set of employees, separated from the editorial department. that's the best practice. this is very different than one man doing both the editorial and the check cashing. for good reason that is considered unethical and is not how it's done.

also, there is little way to know who was paying for what advertising when reviews were written.

speyerer - i once contacted him regarding a very unusual review and he totally went off on me in private email. for several days of "last word" emails he showed himself to be a raving egomaniac...stunning.

further, the fact that he makes his presence known to restaurant management in order to get special service is fact that his style of reviewing is out of touch w/ reality.

Where to stay within walking distance to restaurants?

don't forget traditional Dixie music at Fritzel's. personally I think Lafitte's blacksmith shop's best days are behind it… It used to be really special place, but now it's packed with frat boys, has a terrible and loud jukebox, and just slings out overpriced drinks.

tho I concur, the only real foodie food on Bourbon Street is Galatoire's.

Nawlins Trip Advice

victory bar's best magic happens when Sam's behind the bar and you let him get creative. I know he works Friday nights but I'm not sure about when else.

Nawlins Trip Advice

because what I'm getting at is i don't think Johnny's RB is all that, where's Parkway's is. imo they're known for it because it's very good. I wouldn't "use up" a roast beef slot on Johnny's... far better options out there when it comes to roast beef.

Nawlins Trip Advice

it's not so much a vs thing. all of the above.

Nawlins Trip Advice

the owner of the Parasol's building decided to sell. after first offering it to his long-time leasee (the operators of Parasol's), he decided to sell it to a FL couple who was willing to pay more. a shame. so the Paraol's operator moved down the street and opened Tracey's, which was actually the name of Paraol's before it was Parasol's. he has the recipes and staff, and it has increased capacity and does much better business. this is how you make lemonade.

true, Tracey's is a sports bar now. which always sucks. but the food is the same and kitchen is more efficient and there's rarely a problem finding a place to be. but definitely not the same homey vibe as it used to be at Parasol's.

Nawlins Trip Advice

johnnys is not know for its RB, while parkway is. I really like the shrimp at both.

Sweet Olive: New Restaurant from the Coquette Team

that white-and-glass interior sure is *something*, all right... our initial reaction is cold. but, hey, we'll have to try it.

Ted's Frostop(s) near Tulane??

fyi, Frostop's has been revamped by its new owners. using the orig Frostop recipe now, and fresher burgers.

on my list but havent tried post change.
