Solo dinner and people watching
I am going to be in Toronto for a few days and have gotten some great suggestions on this board. However, I'd like a suggestion for a "nice dinner" to go to on my own. I would like to sit at the bar, perhaps a bistro, with good energy and ofcourse, great food. In New York, I'd suggest Balthazar.
French Macaroons...
I am in search of french macaroons, the sandwich kind. Any thoughts on where I can find these? Payard?

I have a friend who always asks for Tabasco. Even at fine restaurants. It really upsets me!

Perhaps Rosa Mexicano? It's right there, and the food is pretty good.
Shake Shack Revisited
This thread sent me off to Shake Shack at about 6.30 last night. It took about 20 minutes from when I arrived to get my food. Since I wasn't sure I'd be returning soon, I went a bit overboard. A chicago hotdog, fries, a concrete and of course, the Shack Burger. Wonderful!
My 30th Birthday - suggestions for places below 23rd street please!!
I would suggest Stanton Social. It's certainly loungy and hip. The food is good and it's made for sharing. We went in a group recently and spent $40 each (only one round of drinks though and no dessert). Lots of recommendations on this board.
There are any number of bars in the area depending on your preferences: Cafe Charbon, Epsteins, Punch and Judy...
Grand Central Lunch Choices
I've been at the new job for a few months now, and I wanted to share my current lunch haunts and solicit new suggestions...
Grand Central Food Court: It's a good option when you don't really know what you want to eat. I like Cafe Spice, but since I usually pick up and take back to my office, I don't do this anymore. I love Ciao Bella Gelato and Little Pie Company to satisfy mid-afternoon snackies.
Grill 44: 44th b/w Lex and 3rd. After reading the NYT article about the sabich sandwich, I get this about twice a week. Egglant, hard boiled egg and hummus.
Cafe Zaiya: (41st b/w Madison and 5th) Something for everyone. I usually get one of the bento boxes
Cipriani to go: (42nd b/w Park and Lex) Expensive, but you feel like you are in Europe
Chipotle: (44th b/w Lex and 3rd) The line does move quickly
Oms/b: (45th b/w Lex and 3rd) Rice balls place. I can see how this gets expensive fast, but I find three make for a satisfying meal under $7. Also, given the price, you can try everything. I like the wasabi shrimp and the plum.
'Wichcraft (Bryant Park): only when I have time to sit in the Park and eat outside. Also, a bit pricey to make a habit.
So, these have been my regular places. I alternate these with the standard midtown deli in my building. Any thoughts on what I might be missing?
Whither Manhattan's best choc chip cookies?
I have two nominees, both of which have very different cookies.
Levain's are definitely worth checking out. The cookies are huge and soft, almost cakelike. My other choice is Ruby et Violette. They are small and crisp, but I really like them.
Indian Restaurant: "Fun"
Hi! I am looking for an Indian restaurant with nice energy for dinner. Something lively and hip, but less upscale than Devi. What do you think of Bombay Talkie vs. Tamarind?

Divine cookies -- East Side
Looking for fabulous chocolate chip cookies to impress suburban folks!
I was thinking of Levain Bakery or Ruby et Violette (very different cookies, but both are marvellous) but I work in the Chrysler Bldg and would rather stay on the East Side before driving out of the city tonight.
Do you know if either of these bakeries sell their cookies anywhere other than the UWS/Hells Kitchen location? Can't seem to find any information online.
Other suggestions are welcome!
Meet the parents
I think Giorgios of Gramercy would be perfect for such an occasion, although it might be out of your price range. Also, Park Bistro. Entrees are in the late-teens.

I've thought about this before. I think it would have to be sushi. Really, really good sushi.
