Breakfast between Westerly and Mystic

Little Kitchen is overpriced and mediocre. Cooked Goose is decent.

Fatty Crab is the worst meal I've ever had in New York

I'll second one of the worst meal$$$ in Manhattan

There's place in Charlestown right off Route #1. Ask around. Good fried clams with gorgeous bellies are getting too damned rare. Champlins in Galilee?

LIME

We had lunch at Lime on 2 Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs a few days ago. We have eaten there three other times. It is worthy of solid patronage. The food is well prepared, spiced assertively and the ingredients are fresh. I had a chicken quesadilla that looks deceptively thin, but is filled with lots of goodness. My mate had the chicken and shrimp in tequila that was also xxxcellent and amply portioned. The hot sauce from Barbados, I believe, is not to be fooled with. Habenero stacked. Go and enjoy. Saratoga Springs is a tough market for eateries. Everyone who likes Caribbean inflected food whould go and keep this place in the black.

Bensonhurst

Thanks people. My friend is an Italian wine guy. He wants to go to Bensonhurst since he's never been and so do I. All your suggestions are appreciated.

Bensonhurst

Thanks peoples. How's the food at Da Tomasso?

Bensonhurst

A friend is coming into New York for a week and wants to dine in Bensonhurst. I assume he's looking for Italian since we are both southern Italians. We prefer places with good wine lists. Pasticcerie too, thanks

Temple looks good. Thanks for tip on Flatiron, will avoid.

Martini Bar with Style

We had a little drama on our subway ride downtown. We never made it to any martini bar.

Thank you all for being so helpful. Next time for sure.

Falai, Barbone, Lil Frankies or Frankies Spuntino for tonight?

1st time at Barbone Sat Oct 27. The linguine with clams, which we both had, is a killer version w/pancetta. My domestic partner had the fennel and radicchio salad which she enjoyed very much. I ordered the pan roasted cod which I found to be right on. The wine list is enormous and Italian. Alberto knows his wines and can choose well for you.

Thanks Hounds for all the suggestions. We'll probably go to Pegu one night and Flatiron the other.

Martini Bar with Style

Quirky was a bad choice of a word. All I meant was non-fraternity interestingly mixed with a vibe.

Thanks for the tip.

My spouse wants me to take her to a Martini bar in Manhattan. Any suggestions for ones that are known for their quality mixes and quirky clientele would be greatly appreciated.

Saratoga Springs Farmer's Market and...

I should have added that Lime has a lot of potential. We will try it again for lunch.

Saratoga Springs Farmer's Market and...

The Saratoga Farmer's Market is the best in the area. That's not to take anything away from Troy's, but I think the range of produce is a little deeper. In particular, Kilpatrick Farms has had some fine Carmine red Italian roasting/frying peppers. http://www.kilpatrickfamilyfarm.com/
This past Saturday we went to Scallions for paninis. We hadn't been at the new location which is very bright and open. The paninis (Galileo and Romano) were quite good. The breads were hefty and the fillings adequate and well seasoned. I would opt for the Galileo over the Romano. It had more flavors.
A few weeks ago we ate at La Cantina. The food was mediocre. The seasoning were not assertive and my pork tasted like it was a few days old. My spouse has a chicken enchilada that was somewhat better. She was charged an extra dollar for asking for her margarita straight up. We won't be going back.
Lime was ok for lunch. I had a pork wrap with a mean Barbadian (?) hot sauce on the side. The filling was well seasoned and ample but the wrap itself could have been better.

Thanks, Katerina. I was at the Cove a few years ago and the clams were very fine. I forget about them being there. I'll have to try Cody's next time down. Where is it at?

Take out a new mortgage if you plan to dine at Siro's. Mouzon's food is quite good, but the portions are small.

Lime & Cantina & Leon's

Thanks much, Jay and Steven. They're on our list. The madness has almost started. Some weekday for lunch looks good.

Bivalve, I had some Maryland fried clams at a place called The Chowder Pot (Rt 91 Exit 27? Airline Rd south of Hartford CT) on my way down to the shore. They were very good. Plump and sweet. Generous portion.

Iggy's in Narragansett RI

Several people have raved over the fried clams at Iggy's. The order I received last Friday was skimpy and the bellies were miniscule. I would NOT recommend them for fried clams with luscious bellies. Tougher and tougher to find.
