Wanted to share thoughts from our recent honeymoon:
1. Le Clocher Penche: excellent. Had fromage frais with fiddlehead ferns, veal tongue, chicken liver pate and an interesting vegeterian entree. Nice staff.
2. Le Temporel. Great lunch (duck confit sandwhich, good salad), nice break for beer/good croissant - came here 3 times. Nice staff.
3. Le Billig: tasty creative crepes in St. Roch neighborhood.
4. Panache. Good food, poor service, not worth the money. Had a cauliflower appetizer that I could probably have made myself, husband had some more exciting crawfish. Duck entree very good, huge portion. Best part of meal was foie gras "yogurt" amuse bouche. Still not sure what it was but very tasty. All told, nothing good enough to warrant paying twice as much as you will elsewhere.
Ashtons: for poutine. Seemed right, we are not experts. The curds were squeaky and fries hot.
Old port market: great cheese and local tomatoes. We took a picnic to Montmorency falls.
Pain Beni: good food, especially wonderfully mapley onion soup. A little loud and tourist-filled but I still advise.
Buffet de la Antiquaire: diner fair, good for a quick and cheap breakfast- toast, omelette, copious coffee.
Auberge des Peupliers: very good- appetizers were decent sweet potato beignet (little heavy) and nice scallops. Mains were very good trout and local veal. Ricotta fritter for desert was good too. Decor a little stuffy, pleasant staff.
la Patriarche: very good, creative use of local goods. Savory creme brulee with local cheese, duck/rabbit rillette, local lamb. Nice staff, more casual atmosphere.
All in all, no bad meals !
I am trying to figure out a good location for a Sunday night (10pm-ish) low-key wedding after party near (walking distance) to Grand Central Station. Probably 40 people max. Ideally I would like a place with a semi-private area - this would be very casual; guests would pay for their own drinks etc. I like the Campbell Apartment but I'm not sure if it would be too crowded? Fonda del Sol is nice but closed Sundays. Any thoughts appreciated!
