Food tour of Barcelona and Boqueria Market
I'm going to Barcelona on Thursday, August 4. I'm coming on a cruise, so I'll only have the day. I am hoping to find a food tour that morning.
I was very interested in this Context Travel tour, but the tour starts at 10 and our ship doesn't dock until 10. http://www.contexttravel.com/city/Barcelona/walking_tour_details/Farm_to_Fork_Boqueria_of_Barcelona
I had an excellent Context tour in Rome and was hoping for something similar.
Can anyone suggest another Barcelona food tour? There will be 2 of us and our interests are more in home cooking and markets and everyday eating, rather than fine dining.
Antipasti Buffet for Large Holiday Party
Hi,
I'm hosting a large holiday party in my small Brooklyn apartment. Inspired by our summetime trip to Italy -- I'd like to serve an antipasti buffet. I'd like it to range from simple to more complicated dishes (maybe 8 -10?), hopefully some that include in-season produce like squash and citrus.
I will be serving a big crowd that will show up over several hours and will include some veggies.
Do you have any suggestions? I am also looking for suggestions on how to make it look attractive. We have a long rustic dining table and a collection of old platters from England so I think they would be a good start.
Thanks for your help and an early Happy Holidays to you!
A Cook's Souvenir from Greece?
phoenikia , thanks for your great advice. Too bad I might not see much of this when I am in Santorni and Mykonos -- sounds like the best stuff is a bit more off the track and I'm not sure if I will be able to get there from my cruise.
A Cook's Souvenir from Greece?
I am traveling to Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini in early September. I'm wondering what a good souvenir for a cook would be? A piece of cookware, or linens or housewares? Thanks for any suggestions of items as well as shops to find these items.
Kitchenware - Milan, or the Piedmont in general?
Grant, I just want to second your request. However, I will be in Rome and Florence ... but still interest in picking up kitchenware as souvenirs from my trip.
I have beautiful linens from my trip last year to Portugal that are a treasure.
appetizer for ceramic spoons
I'd like to try this with tuna for my holiday party. Do you have any suggestions of where to look for photos, recipes or other inspiration?
appetizer for ceramic spoons
I'm so glad you posted this question. I need help with the same thing.
Last year I made Bloody Mary Shrimp -- with shavings of celery, vodka, tomato broth and a shrimp in my spoons, but I'm looking to do something different for this year's Christmas party. Any one have more ideas?
A Cook's Sunday in Paris
Hello,
I wanted to let you know that in the end, I met Julien, a food blogger and writer from http://www.julotlespinceaux.com for our Paris food tour. He was a gracious host -- who met us at the Eiffel Tour with croissants to kick off the day. He took us to a market, bakery, cheese shop, wine shop. He had lots of information and ideas about the real cook's Paris. I highly recommend him and am so glad I found him on this board.
A Cook's Sunday in Paris
Thanks for the tip Chef June. Have you been on one of her tours?
Unfortunately, at $1000 a halfday, these might be out of my price range.
A Cook's Sunday in Paris
I will be in Paris for just 15 hours on August 31. I am going on a cruise that stops in Le Havre and I am planning to make the trip into Paris.
I've been to Paris once before and would like to focus this trip around food, particularly cooking and markets. I am worried about the time going by so quickly. Since I don't speak French, I'm worried about losing my way and missing things.
I'm thinking about hiring my own tour guide to show me around on a specialized tour like this. Does that seem like a good idea? Any recommendations on guides?
Thanks so much for your help.
Sites and recipe search for WAP/Palm/BlackBerry mobile use
I have problems with the mobile sites from epicurious, nytimes and also chow. i can't tell if it is that the sites aren't ready for prime time or if it is my treo.
Food Tour and Single Day cooking classes in London?
Thanks for all your suggestions. I leave this Friday . . . trying to pick out the classes I'll take this weekend.
Food Tour and Single Day cooking classes in London?
This sounds like a great suggestion. These classes are all about 70 pounds each. I suppose that's fair, but in US$ that's $140 for a class that's only a few hours long. Are they that good?
Sites and recipe search for WAP/Palm/BlackBerry mobile use
Jfood,
Chow.com and Chowhound.com seem to have special Wap-designed sites, but I can't get them to work for me on the Treo.
I am very unhappy with the Treo usability too. Very disappointing
Food Tour and Single Day cooking classes in London?
I am visiting London in mid-Feb. I'm very interested in taking a food-related walking tour of markets or restaurant kitchens and/or single session cooking class while I am there.
Can anyone make recommendations?
Sites and recipe search for WAP/Palm/BlackBerry mobile use
Can anyone recommend food and recipe sites that work well on cell phone and Internet-enabled PDAs? I just got a Treo and would like to use it to browse recipes while not at a computer.
Print Zines about Food
Paul, thanks for the suggestion. This is just the kind of thing I'm looking for. Happen to know any more?
Print Zines about Food
I'm looking for some alternative, artistic voices talking about food? Does anyone know of print 'zines that talk about food? If you know of some, do you know how I can buy copies of them?
Buying spices
The Park Slope (Brooklyn) Food Co Op is an excellent source for small amounts of spices. Unfortunately, it's a members only shop.
Tips for The Grinder
How do I submit a tip to the Grinder? I see you can submit comments, but if I have a tip/question/comment unrelated to a particualr post, can I send it in to you?
Joyce Bakeshop in Prospect Heights
Word is they are now open on Sundays and closed on Mondays. Anyone know for sure?
Electric Stove and Oven
Subee, what kind of electric stove do you have? Is it the kind where the elements show or the ceramic-glass top?
I have a Kenmore Elite range. The electric stove can take some getting used to, but I think the electric oven is great -- since the heat is very even.
