Apple Picking

If you want to make it a road trip, I was in Collingwood with the family...it's gorgeous in the fall and lots of farms around there. We went apple picking at a farm called the Farmer's Pantry about 20 mins from Blue Mountain. Had lots of kid's stuff...petting zoo and other things. It was great!

Never buy salsa from the grocery store again...

Garden Fresh Gourmet is my favourite store bought kind...don't think there's any preservatives. I tried it because so many friends recommended it.

what are you making today?

Haha, ya! Try to get another plant! I've seen some basil plants grow pretty huge indoors. I usually use one bunch from the store when I make pesto. Or just start with the bit you have and see where it takes you. :)

Pesto's so easy to make...I make it in my food processor. Why don't you make more for future use in sandwiches and pasta? I make a bigger batch and freeze it in ice cube trays. When the cubes are frozen I just keep them in a ziploc bag. That way you can take a frozen cube out of the freezer whenever you need one. :)

If Italian's an okay option, Enoteca Sociale is my favourite. But make a reservation.

Pizzeria Via Mercanti in Kensington is yummy too. :)

Enoteca Sociale is my fave Italian restaurant...he'd prob be okay with a simple pasta. It's a great date restaurant, and they have a patio now. The food is AMAZING. But it gets busy. Make a reservation!

What are you baking these days? May 2013 Edition

I just made gluten-free avocado brownies! And they were surprisingly REALLY YUMMY! Sometimes my gluten-free creations don't taste so great. I find quinoa flour gives everything that bitter quinoa flavour.
But I tried using coconut flour this time around, and it worked great!
It was also my first time substituting butter with avocado...which also worked!

what are you making today?

I made a Caesar salad last night! With my FAVOURITE homemade dressing!!! It's so good! The recipe's on my blog if you want to try it. It's a red wine vinegar, lemon juice, anchovy, garlic-y mixture. It's a version of the table-side Caesar salads they do at Jacob's & Co Steakhouse.

what are you making today?

Totally true! I use lemon sometimes too. Something about Mexican food makes me think lime all the time...lime + cilantro is so yummy!

Kale Recipes

I made a kale salad a few nights ago.
I roasted some chopped beets, sweet potato, and carrots to add in.
-Wash and cut/rip your kale (1 bunch) into bite-sized pieces
-Massage with olive oil...too get it softer (couple tablespoons)
-I added the juice of about 3/4 of a lemon
-Teaspoon tahini
-Pinch of ground cumin
-Salt & pepper to taste
-Mix in roasted veggies and red peppers
-Mix well

what are you making today?

This is a neverending thread of delicious ideas! :)
Guacamole is always a great, quick snack or app to make! And great for taking to a friend's house too! I've made it so many times I can almost do it in my sleep.
For an authentic Mexican guac:
Ripe avocados
Red onion, chopped
Jalapeno, chopped
Lime juice
Salt & Pepper
Tomato, deseeded, chopped
*mash mash mash
I've posted a longer version of the recipe with photos on my blog :) But it's pretty simple to make.

Ramen in Toronto

@Charles Yu...lol. Noooo...I was talking about Kinton Ramen. It's Guu's ramen house. They opened it last year. Don't worry, I'm half Asian...would never say Guu's a ramen house.
Ryoji on College serves ramen too...not the best I've had, but they've got some other yummy items on their menu...and good sake.

Ramen in Toronto

I really enjoyed Kinton on Baldwin. If you've been to Guu izakaya...this is the ramen house they opened last summer. It's right near work for me and I finally gave it a try the other day. Really yummy, but it's always super busy. They've got a small simple menu...veggie, pork, chicken options. Different broths to choose from. Extra toppings to add to your ramen and some sides as well...dumplings, kimchi, pork, fried chicken, salad etc.

Oysters

I haven't been yet, but someone told me Bier Market does dollar oysters on Thursdays too.

Oysters

Oyster Boy is, by far, my fave oyster bar in the city. It's a small, cozy restaurant. Perfect for a client meeting. They're one of the main oyster suppliers in the city, and the rest of the menu is delicious as well. Seafood heaven. It's one of my favourite places. I just posted a review on my blog, check it out! :)
