Rome & Florence with a 4 year old

Great thank you. Yes, I did a bit more research into some other restaurants so was just wondering about these. By simple I mean simple ingredients and presentation. I will have a look at the other boards.

How did you find Spoleto and Todi? Did you go to Gubbio? I'm widening instead of narrowing my list! Hard to choose.

Do you think I'll need reservations for Antiche Serre? Thanks.

Thanks Lisa. Minchilli mentioned that Casalinga doesn't take reservations. Did you have to wait long for a table? Maybe if we go right at 7pm we'll be ok.

Thanks so much for your tips. Are there any real gems you think I'm missing in rome? Again, given my limitations with a child? Thank you.

Thanks so much Vinorama. Do you have an alternate suggestion close to corso 281 (hotel) ie dinner after a long flight? Any recos for a good porchetta place close do the main tourist sites? Have you got a reco for lunch in travestere to replace supplizio? And a better dinner spot than osteria der belli?

Thank you both. I also read good things about Entoeca Piazza Onofri in Bevagna? Or else Trattoria di Oscar?

Which of the three towns do you believe to be the most scenic? Spello, Foligno, Bevagna?

Hmm I guess that depends what time lunch is usually eaten in Italy. I think we're hoping for a 12pm lunch and then we'll probably have to head back to Slow Life to let her rest. She's a bit big for a stroller and hadn't considered bringing one considering the cobblestones in Rome, etc.

We arrive Aug 29th and are there till Sept 7th.

We're taking a train to Perugia and then renting a car. Are there a couple towns you would recommend visiting that are close together? I just worry about dragging a 4 year old around. We only really have the morning as she still naps in the afternoon so are a bit limited.

Thank you so much!

Thank you, Elizabeth.

Do you have another restaurant reco in place of Grano in the same area? Also casual?

Or for Casalinga (since they don't take reservations). I guess it is better to try and make them. I'm just not confident in my Italian over the phone!

Looking for a dinner reco near Fatamorgana as well.

Rome/Umbria/Florence Food Itinerary. Minchilli, Parla, Kalb, Fant: How Did I Do?

I will be in Italy for 10 days with my husband and 4 year old daughter. We are trying to find some relatively casual restaurants to eat at, places that are within close walking distance of each other (while still being able to enjoy the sites), and ideally places that don’t require reservations. Great to get your feedback. Thank you!

ROME - Staying at Corso 281 Luxury Suites

Day 1: Arrive
Dinner at Da Enzo*
*Is there a restaurant closer to the hotel that you’d recommend?

Day 2: Ancient Rome, Colosseum, Circus Maximus, Roman and Imperial Forum, Monti

Coffee at Licata
Lunch at Tricolore*
Snack at Grezzo and Dall’Anto*
Coffee at Er Baretto*
Dinner at Urbana 47**
Gelato at Il Gelato di Claudio Torce*

Are all these places open in August?
**Assume I don’t need reservations at Urbana 47?

Day 3: Vatican City and The Prati
Coffee at Sciascia Caffe* (read that this is closed most of Aug?)
Lunch at Panificio Bonci and Pizzarium*
Gelato at Gelateria dei Gracchi*

Spanish Steps, Palazzo del Popolo, Villa Borghese, Trevi Fountain
Dinner at La Campana* **
Gelato at San Crispino*

*Are all these places open in August? On Sunday?
**Do I need to make reservations at La Campana?

UMBRIA

Day 4: Train to Umbria
Staying at Slow Life Umbria
Dinner at hotel

Day 5: Drive to Spello
Lunch at La Bastiglia*
*Not sure if this is the best place to go ie too formal? My first choice was actually L’Achemista in Montefalco but it is closed on Tuesdays. I know there are a lot of good restaurants in Bevagna but I’ve read that there isn’t much to see there? We only have time to go to one town so trying to pick something both beautiful and tasty!

Dinner at hotel, unless someone can recommend something near Lake Trasimeno?

FLORENCE

Day 6: Train to Florence
Staying at Porta Rossa
Dinner at Sostanza*
Gelato at Grom

*Are reservations at Sostanza necessary?

Day 7: Florence
Coffee at Café Rivoire
Lunch at Nerbone and Porks in the Central Market
Balsamic vinegar shopping at Mercato di San Lorenzo
Gelato at Carapina

Dinner at Casalinga*
Gelato at Perche

We also plan to go to Arte del Ciocolato since it’s so close to the hotel.

*Are reservations at Casalinga necessary?

ROME

Day 8: Back to Rome
Staying at Corso 281 again

Dinner at Grano*
Gelato at Gelateria del Teatro

*Are reservations at Grano necessary?

Day 9: Travestere, Campo De’Fiori, Jewish Ghetto, Piazza Navona

Coffee at Chiostro del Bramante
Lunch at Supplizio

Beers at Open Baladin

Dinner at Osteria Der Belli*
Gelato at Fatamorgana

*Reservations required?

Thanks all!

Best Toronto restaurant for garden-like feel

Any thoughts on the best restaurant in Toronto to experience the outdoors indoors? The only one that comes to mind is the Grenadier Cafe in High Park. Any others? Either with a nice lush green view outside or trees, etc inside?
