Las Vegas eating report. L'Atelier, Sage, Sinatra, Stripsteak

Aren't the fries essentially an amuse buche? Wouldn't they come out before the entree? or were yours ordered with the entree as a side?

TWIST review

Nice review. How much time did you spend there? Was it a 3, 4, or 5 hour meal?

Great report, especially of Twist. Compare's favorably to Guy Savoy in Paris...

Thanks!

The 2008 and 2009 Salmon BBQ uses non-local salmon due to the restrictions placed on the local fishermen. It is still a fund raiser for a good cause, but the salmon won't be local this year.

BAD dinner @ A Cote

I ate at the bar 2 sundays ago and had a great meal. I thought the fries were creamy and crisp. I, for one, will be back, especially when I drive back from the city on sunday evenings. This is my go to spot on the way home.

Langer's Wins. But you gotta try to make sure. The main difference is the counter service.

San Sebastian - Akelare or Arzak

Frodnesor, thank you for the update. So maybe lunch at Akelare, and a late supper at Arzak? Or too much food?

Evan's Kitchen - Sacramento

I've been regularly. And a fan of Evan since he was at Limelight. The execution is consistently good, and I have had zero problems. The review is spot on and the preparation is honest and forthcoming. I would rather spend my money on a local than a chain, so we go to Evan's Kitchen.

That being said, I am not sure it is Chowhoundish. My definition of a Chowhound restaurant / vendor / source is one that I would drive 50+ miles out of my way to experience.

If you are in town, I would make the trek.

My current favorite it Temple. Plugs on the right hand side as you walk in, and free Wi Fi.

North African and Lebanese restaurants in Paris

This is relevant to my interests as well. I've been to some pâtisseries orientales, the North African pastry shops. You can try the Pâtisserie du Sud Tunisien in the 5th. Inexpensive, nutty, sweet pastries.

I don't know much about restaurants but I am very curious about what this board thinks

[Paris] My brain is fried...

Babbo's tripe is just OK. Try Al Di La in Brooklyn. Their tripe is better. In Paris, I've never had the country style tripe, only the Andouillette at various places. I assume places like Chez Denise offer the country style preparation.

Best fried chicken?

I rather liked the surprising juxtaposition of great fried chicken and hidden clubby bar. It was not what I was expecting. And I thought I was lost trying to find it. If I had any hesitation, I would have walked away.

I have to say that this board, although watered down lately with more requests than reports, has rarely let us down. Bon Chon Chicken has some of the best fried chicken we've ever had.

Financial district mid-priced professional lunch

We had lunch at The Libertine yesterday. We were pleasantly surprised. As we sat, housemade pretzel sticks and breadsticks were served with salted butter in one small jar, and rosemary jelly in another, both for dipping. or double-dipping if you prefer.

We ordered two burgers and the fish and chips. Before these were delivered, we were given Lobster Roll Sliders. They were served on small buns, house made. over all very impressive.

The burgers were served on larger versions of the same buns. The burgers were huge with what i recall as a strong british cheese (don't recall the exact name), caramelized onions. The burger must have been 10-12 ounces, absolutely huge. The fries, both skinny and thick cut mixed, were dusted in poppy seeds, sesame seeds, and salt.

The fish and chips were great as well. My bride was quite pleased, but the tartar sauce was a bit too eggy for her, which tells me that they started with a housemade base.

It seemed to be the place to celebrate as there were a few tables of groups having fun.

Chowish??? I don't know yet. Would I travel out of my way to go? I don't know yet. Worthy of a visit? Yeah, the food is what food should be. Thoughtful, with quality ingredients, and layered.

Need help picking a hotel near decent dining options

I would say closer to the 1st than the 8th, if you want to stay on the right bank. Or even in the 1st. I also agree with Le Souffle and L' Ardoise on Rue Mont Thabor. There are even some nice hotels on that quiet back street.

3-star Paris lunches

I'm glad you liked it. I think it is one of the most consistently fabulous meals in Paris. Others might shine a bit more, or are more trendy, but Guy Savoy has always been solid.

Did Hubert mistake you for French at the beginning of your meal? ;)

What are Chowhound places not to miss in Paris?

From your request, it sounds like you prefer a taco truck and Tijuana dogs to French Laundry or Guy Savoy. That being said.

L' As Du Falafel in the Marais for Falafel. There are actually a few great falafel places in a block or two.

Go to any roving street market, get a Roasted Bresse Chicken with the potatoes confit. I've actually had pretty good Paella at the street markets as well.

There are a number of bars around Paris that offer free Couscouse or Moules Frites as long as you keep drinking. The couscous usually comes out family style so you make friends. Unfortunately, I don't remember the names...

Berthillon ice cream for a walk away treat.

Up by Mont Martre is the roving Marche d' Afrique and you can get some great socca there and other items.

Happy eating!

Corti Bros. to Close Sacramento Store

I agree with you, hungerpains. Corti is my sunday afternoon ritual. I'm going to miss everyone, unless they stay in the neighborhood. I've built relationships with a few of the butchers. (Hey, the Italian Import Company Mercato is available!)

I have shopped regularly at Corti Bros for their cheese selection, great olive oil, pasta, and my anchovy and ventresca fix. Heirloom turkeys in November, crown rib roast at christmas. Sounds like I'm writing a Eulogy.

I think there will be a bit of a shake-up in our little burg. I heard other rumors about this little circle, but can't say a peep.

Ice cream in Paris?

Cafes around paris use Berthillon's logo on their awnings and that can cause a bit of confusion. The cafes even have ice cream vending carts out front with the Berthillon logo.

Our group (half non-chowhounds) could not understand that if we were heading to Berthillon for ice cream, why we would be passing it by so many times. I still don't think they got the fact that we were going to the source.

N.Y. trip

Here is a link to RGR's tour. I highly recommend it. My teenage daughter tells her friends it is the Lower East Side Food Death March:

http://www.chowhound.com/topics/493333

Relatively close by is the Halal Cart on 6th ave and 53rd (or it could be 54th - look for the lines). Mix the Red and White sauces for a treat.

You can also go the burger route, like the Burger Joint at the Parker Meridien, or Carnegie John's, or Shake Shack.

O Izakaya has japanese breakfasts, but the menu is a bit over-priced. It is a hotel restaurant after all, and caters to the hotel guests. The crowd changes in the evening.

Rendezvous Inn, Fort Bragg
Piaci Pizzeria - home of the adult pizza - Fort Bragg
North Coast Brewing Co. - Fort Bragg
Laurel Deli - Fort Bragg

Haven't been eating much in Mendocino lately - Cafe Beaujolais isn't what it used to be, nor is 955 Ukiah. I have heard good things about MacCallum House, but haven't been recently.

But you can't go wrong with the first four.
