This just came to my mind..Basil T's in Red Bank. $ 20.00 for a beer and burger. I have had their burgers before and liked them. I know you want Northern Monmouth, but like I said..this just popped in my head.

Yum! We went here yesterday for dinner and all I can say is nothing but great things about the place! It was packed when we first arrived..around 4:30.
Everything was so great! We had a bunch of things and thank goodness today we have leftovers!!
We had the Salad Odessa (just a basic tossed salad.), Fried liver cubes with cramerlized onions (SO delish!), Vareniki with potatoes, melted in my mouth!
Dinners we had...beef stroganoff..sooo tasty, and the homemade chciken cutlet (Remined me more of a chicken sausage, but really good!) They were both served with mashed potatoes. We had a bottle of a French merlot and the bill came to about $ 60.00 before tip.
This was by far one of the best homestyle restaurants we have eaten at in a while.
Are there any other great places like this there as well? We have been to Tatiana before and like it, too.

GREAT Portuguese Restaurant in Elizabeth! :)
ok...I have to share this with all of you! Yesterday, my husband and I wnet for lunch at this restaurant. All I can say is authentic, delicious, cheap, and just really great food!!!
My husband eat here before with a friend of his, who is actually Portuguese. We always laugh together about the places in Newark and how they are so commercial. Anyway, this place is the real deal!! Oh my!!

No website, sorry. It was so busy at 3 pm on a Sat. Ofcourse, the place is loaded with all Portuguese men watching the soccer games on the TV's.
We had garlic shrimp, an order of chorizio, we spilt a roasted chicken dinner because it was HUGE...comes with roated potoates and some greens, had 2 small pitcher of the red wine, and outr check was $ 52.00 before the tip..AND I still had food to bring home because that chicken dinner was enormous!!
The place is right off of Rt. 1 before the airport. Parking is bad because it is on the street. The food was really good. We saw steaks coming out of the kitchen and they were huge! I don't think anything on the menu was over $20.00. Wine is cheap, too. $ 3.00 a glass or $ 9.00 for the half pitchers.
Way better than that crap they give you in Newark!

I really liked it and our server, Ines, was as sweet as pie! So accomodating, and she made sure every one of her tables was taken care of.
If you are in the area, give it a try. Way much better than Newark!

Not too fancy, but the food is incredible! Ibby's on Main Street. (BYOB) They have great shwarma, chicken, and the sauces are so tasty!

I went to 3 weddings here and they were all great!! The rooftop is just beautiful!
The food was really good, too. I use to like going here with my girlfriends in our "single" days! :)

I can only say I was there for drinks. I thought that was overpriced, too!! Little did I know, the wine I tasted and liked was $ 12.00 a glass. out of 6 of us, we each had 2 glasses. $144.00..can you beleive that!! What a watse of money.
I know, I probably should have asked how much first, but with the look of the place inside, I thought nothing would be over 8 or 9 dollars.
The menu was so week, and the dinners we saw coming out of the kitchen looked about the same as that diner down the street.
Sorry I can't be more of help on the food, but I just get so mad when I think what we spent on an ok (probably $ 20) bottile of wine.

PIZZA - Denino's http://www.deninospizzaplace.com/ GREAT thin crust pizza, BYOB, also great chicken parm. The owner, Mike is a real nice guy!
FISH - Peter's Fishery http://www.petersfishery.net/index2.html GREAT, super fresh seafood. I sometimes buy from the fish market alone. Jason, the owner, another great guy and very accomodating if you have a preference! BYOB, the atmosphere is alot of elderly people, but I don't care..the fish is so fresh and I have always enjoyed my meals there!!
Aby's is ok. I feel they are very pricey for just some dishes loaded with cheese. Maybe it is me, but I have tried it a few times. just not really my preference. I like El Meson in Freehold much better!

Need a good bakery in the Central Jersey area
I am with you Cece! There is nothing here in Manalapan!! I only bought bread once in that bakery that was in Town Pointe, next to Hunan on Rt. 9. I forget the name, but that was the only bakery I ever saw in this area. I usually just go to Wegmans or whip something up myself (because I am so picky!!) If you are looking for something specific, let me know, maybe I can give you a recipe! :)
Funny, when I was a teenager (3 years ago...hee hee I WISH!) I use to work in Vaccaro's Bakery in Clark. I thought they were the BEST on the planet, until of course I saw there little "tricks".

Hi Igirive!! I won't laugh! I had jury duty there last summer, but thank God I was not picked!! (Sorry..)
Anway, Ibby's has always been consistant with their food, so you definately made the right choice. I think you have to ask for it, but they have a hot sauce they make that will really put you on fire! You only need a SMALL amount, but I love anything hot and spicy!!

If you like thin crust pizza, Federici's is right on Main Street. I don't know if they do by the slice, though.

You all gave me great recipes for pork shoulder, and someone mentioned liquid smoke. Well, I went out today and bought some. I NEVER even heard of it before! It smells great with that hickory flavor! I just don't know what to make with it?
I know mine is a concentrate, so very powerful, but what can I make with it?
