Chinatown Fruit Report-2012

I have seen the rounder pummelos in in NY/NJ in the past week. The type that is flatter are out of season. I think the flatter ones are sweeter and have thicker slices

> Mikado 23 - New Upscale Sushi Buffet in Wayne

unfortunately, this place has closed...

recommendations for non-asian food in the Village area

sorry, but that is all the info that I have.
I have a friend who is visiting from overseas and that was his request.

recommendations for non-asian food in the Village area

Does anyone know of any good places for american food - a steak house maybe

Nothern Chinese in Flushing

he may have retired and is living the good life. I ran into him around 1pm in Flushing about a month ago

Ordering a Deep Fried Turkey

if you want to try Cajun fried turkey, you can get it from Popeye's Chicken.
If you go to their website and click on the store locator, it will show the locations of the Popeyes chains and the ones that have the fried turkeys.
I talked to one of the employees at one store and he said I should call a couple of days before and they will have it ready for pick-up. I think they sell for about $30 which is reasonable compared to Jive Turkey's $65-70

> Mikado 23 - New Upscale Sushi Buffet in Wayne

In my opinion, the quality of the fish/sushi is fresher than the stuff they have at Minado. The food that you get even during lunchtime is excellent.

East Buffet

it is across the street from the Pan-American Hotel

Dim Sum Before US Open?

I think Jade Asian (136-28 39th Ave) has excellent dim sum. It may be a 1 1/2 mile walk there though. You may need to walk up roosevelt ave or if you are in a rush take the 7 train one stop. I haven't eaten there on a weekday but I have heard that there are lines even on the weekdays. It is a huge restaurant so the wait usually isn't very long. If you want to be at the Open by noon, you should get to the restaurant by 10:30-10:45. Everything I have tried there is good, so feel free to sample as much as you can.

Lan Zhou Hand Pulled Noodles

did they have the cheung fun that East Southwind used to sell?
If I had known that the old owners were closing shop, I would have went there to eat a couple of times before they closed.

chow foon?

If you want good chow fun, the only options are chinatown or flushing queens. chinatown is about a 40minute walk.

East Manor in Elmhurst

you may need to look over your bill closely. My friend told me that they added some weird surcharges the last time he ate there.

East Manor in Elmhurst

I haven't eaten there in a over a year, but as far as I know, it is a buffet and hot pot place. They have roasted baby suckling pig and peking duck.

Street Noodles/Tofu stand near Bowery and Grand

that location is about in the middle of the delancey st and east broadway stations. If you can take the b or d train, it will put you a block away from that place.

Shake Shack Recommendations

the burger isn't as wide as a burger king whopper. I ordered the shack stack once and I couldn't open my mouth enough to get an entire bite from that burger

A Taste Of Shanghai

this place is good for soup buns and soy milk.
Their fried noodles dishes are good too.

Street Noodles/Tofu stand near Bowery and Grand

the noodles that are sold in a slab (ho fun) are the noodles that are used for chow fun.
they also sell cheung fun - the noodles with little bits of scallion and dried pork.
I haven't been there for months, but I usually go there for fresh noodles.
I normally boil some chicken broth, cut up the ho fun, put it in a bowl and pour the broth on top. Those noodles are great when they are fresh made.
I'm sure they are open all week.

Mohegan Sun - Which buffet is better?

What you can do is ask the person at the entrance if you can go inside and take a look at the food they are serving. I had the same dilemma a couple of years ago. The more expensive one does have more food selections, thus the higher price

has anyone tried wingbling.com

They are a food delivery service specializing in chicken wings and ribs.
They deliver to East Hanover NJ.

2008 BigAppleBBQ

How was he food last year? Was it worth the wait? Did anyone get the fastpass and did the organizers limit the number of fastpasses to make it worthwhile buying?

Joe's Best Burger, Flushing

I tried it one time and I wasn't very impressed. To me, it wasn't better than any other fast food chain burger. If you want a really good burger, go to Shake Shack. There is one by the new Citi Field.

Some personal Chinatown Faves

do you know of any places that sell cheung fun similar to New Southwind?

287 South to bedminster chow stops?

I agree with Noodle Chu and Chef 81 in Parsippany for good ethnic chinese food.

For mexican food you can try: http://www.donjosemexican.com/

or Malaysian food: http://www.penangcuisine.com/

both are more expensive than a noodle place are in East Hanover

For good turkish food, go to denville: http://www.restaurantica.com/nj/denville/c-mediterranean/

Bosphorus II, Denville

I had lunch there today. We had the shepherd salad, sigari borek and stuffed grape leaves for appetizers and I had a gyro platter for myself. The food here is pretty good. I've eaten at the Bosphorus in Lake Hiawatha and the shepherd salad there had a little too much vinegar and the hummus was kind of chauky. The prices are pretty reasonable so I think it is worth trying out.

Best Rodizio

if you are eating here you must go for dinner. When I ate there a few years ago, they charged the same price for lunch as dinner and have a small selection of grilled meats for lunch compared to the dinner menu.

KRISPY KREME Donuts in Parsippany NJ

Does anyone know where I can get a fairly fresh batch of these?
I told my coworkers that I would get some if the Giants won.
They used to sell them at Quik Check.

NJ-287/80 Junction within 20 mins or so

I could be wrong but I believe that the same guy owns Noodle Chu and Mister Chu. Bill and Harry is a good Chinese place but the lunch menu is small. You are better off going there for dinner. Noodle Chu is a more authentic Hong Kong style restaurant and they only have DIM SUM on the weekends.

NJ-287/80 Junction within 20 mins or so

Noodle Chu is a good chinese restaurant in that area. 770 Us-46.

eccola is a good italian place although it is expensive.
http://www.eccolarestaurantnj.com/

penang has very good thai food and is fairly expensive
http://penangcuisine.com/home.html

mexican food, done jose is good
http://www.donjosemexican.com/

Harold's New York Deli

did you eat at the one in Parsippany NJ? That one has changed ownership a few times and has been closed a couple of times due to cleanliness problems.

Canandaigua Lake and road trip there

go to Emile's ( http://www.emilesrestaurant.net ).
The regular prime rib (seasoned and char grilled) or Emile's cut there is the best I have ever had.
