Sibling dinner in lieu of Christmas presents

Myers and Chang is fun, and in the South End so you could bop around there afterwards. I usually get cocktails not beer though, so you might want to check out the list. Beehive (or Beat Hotel) could also be a fun option.

I'd say Alden and Harlow in Cambridge, but it does do small plates though it fits the rest of your criteria.

I just ate at one of the high tops right next to the kitchen at EVOO this weekend - it was an amazing experience. The food was delicious, and we saw everything happening!

I'd recommend searching this board for halal conversations - there have been a few, and that might be your best start. I don't know of many halal options in the area.

What makes something interesting for you? Do you have a specific price point in mind? There isn't a ton of stuff right around there, but I enjoy the restaurants in the Liberty Hotel (Scampo, Alibi) as well as King of Siam for Thai, though it isn't anything fancy.

If you're willing to go a little farther, Lala Rokh is delicious Persian food off Charles Street.

Is it just me, or is this really utterly ridiculous?

I heard that they were submitted through the restaurant's contact page - which just requires an email address to be written. As his is easily found, it could be any impersonator...

it did! A company in Boston already (quite publicly) bought $500 of food there!

Harvard Square Dinner

What constitutes reasonably priced for you? I really like Orinoco - not too expensive, good food, and a nice ambiance too.

You can't go home again ...

I was thinking Alden and Harlow too, but it can get pretty loud depending on when you go.

ISO Quiet place for a winter drink, Harvard-Porter-Davis Squares

One other idea for future searchers - I went to Kennedy's in Harvard Square last night for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. While the seats appear to be mostly high-tops, they're comfortable red leather benches, and the mulled wine hit the spot. The food was pretty good too! Well done bar food, nothing fancy, but will definitely be making it into the rotation.

October 2014 Openings and Closings

Ha - to clarify, those are the things I most like to eat from Chinese restaurants and what I order on my first visit when they're on the menu, so I can only say that both of those things weren't good, not that everything on the menu wasn't.

October 2014 Openings and Closings

Just an update - it's open! I went this weekend and was wildly unimpressed, unfortunately. According to Yelp via Eater, it's getting great reviews, but I won't be one of them. Full disclosure, I judge Chinese restaurants based on moo shi and peking ravioli, but neither was good so I won't be returning. Dumpling House is too close to eat worse food.

UWS-ish local food?

Sorry - I should've been more clear. To us, local doesn't mean up the street, it means it was responsibly sourced from not too far away. For example, our Thanksgiving turkey came to Boston from a farm in upstate New York.

Also great call on my contradiction - I guess energetic was the wrong word. I feel like often when I look for quiet places, I end up in empty spots. Lively without being deafening is what I'm looking for!

I'd flagged Telepan but they didn't have anything on Open Table - I'll try calling them, Dovetail, and the Marshal to see what I can find. Thank you for all your insight!

cooking class recs

It could also be fun to find a private chef (Kitchensurfing?) and do it in your home!

How big is your group? If you could buy out something like a class at Dave's Fresh Pasta or with Formaggio Kitchen, that could be fun. Both of those are more demonstration than participation though.

UWS-ish local food?

Hi all,

I have a fairly short-notice request - I'm coming to NYC next weekend, and looking for a dinner spot for four on Saturday evening. We'll be coming from the Upper West Side and would like to be somewhere around there. The biggest thing for us is that we'd like to go to a place that sources primarily local meat. Price isn't that important (want to stay below ~$100/per person) so the primary concern is local meat in a fun/energetic atmosphere. Bonus points if the spot isn't too loud - one of our diners is a little hard of hearing. Plus, we'd want to make a reservation so anything too special probably won't be available, unfortunately.

I feel a little like Goldilocks here - I've done research of my own, but it's hard to gauge all these things at the same time, so any input would be greatly appreciated!

Tavern Road

I go about once a week during lunch. Now that they're doing online ordering at lunch, I imagine you could find the menu on the TR Street Food facebook or somewhere directed from there. Lately I've enjoyed the somewhat indulgent chickpea wrap - fried cheesy chickpea bites with sumac onions, tomato jam, and pine nuts. Delicious! I also enjoy the lamb meatballs. Those around me have recommended the grilled cheese, the steak and cheese, and the CLT (chicken skin!).

Verrill Farm pies are AMAZING! I hosted a Friendsgiving last night and we were lamenting the lack of Verrill pies. Petsi Pies are pretty good, too, if you're looking for an alternative.

Cambridge - need a place for drinks before dinner

I'd personally be inclined to just pick one of the places around there - Temple Bar, Cambridge Common, etc. If you're looking for nicer cocktails and beer selection, you'd probably be looking closer to Harvard Square. Maybe Russell House Tavern?

I need some help with a trip to your city around Dec 5th

Feel free to search the board for other UOH references, but Union Oyster House is generally seen as a really touristy spot, not worth going to if you're going for the food.

Food near the Intercontinental Hotel

I don't love Les Zyg - I had some pretty underwhelming meals there. I haven't been to Bastille Kitchen yet, but it's a new French restaurant in Fort Point that's getting good reviews.

Pizza delivery is going to be pretty neighborhood based - most places don't deliver to the entire city. My favorite pizza is OTTO, if you're staying somewhere they deliver to.
