d-bags at alden & harlow

I think the thing I struggle with is that, regardless of whether it's fair, patrons will often threaten to and follow through on taking to Yelp to shame a restaurant, regardless of whether it's deserved. I agree that the restaurant should take a higher road, but in some ways it seems like a double standard to me.

Orange wines, Boston area?

Ditto for Belly - also recently saw a few on the menu somewhere. Alden and Harlow or Oleana, I think?

Restaurant Week Winter 2015

After a quick browse, the standouts to me are Mamma Maria, Sorellina, T.W. Food, EVOO (more for food than ambience), and 80 Thoreau. Rialto, Harvest, and Scampo are all pretty good too. I'm also excited to try Lala Rokh's new menu, though Restaurant Week probably isn't the best time to do so.

Anyone know if Townsman will have a tasting menu?

No evidence of a tasting menu yet:

What new spot would you try?

I really, really love Alden and Harlow - it's a fun space, and the food is so creative and delicious. I highly recommend the vegetable dishes. We almost didn't get the charred broccoli with butternut squash hummus, but it ended up being our favorite on the menu.

In my opinion, Barcelona's a cut below. I wouldn't compare the two.

Hideaway-type bar & apps near Newbury?

I'm struggling a little with hideaway on Newbury - I feel like those are a little bit opposites, at least on the Public Garden end. Lolita is pretty nondescript with plenty of cocktail options. Bar Lola has the who knew this was here vibe, but mostly because I find it pretty missable. I enjoy the bar area at Towne, and I find Met Bar to be pretty predictable in a not bad kind of way.

another suggestion please

Oleana and Sarma immediately pop out to me - getting a seat at the bar at Oleana, at least, can be tough unless you arrive a little before 5:30, but both are great if you can get a reservation.

If you're looking more upscale, I'm currently loving Sorrelina.

Best Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich around

The fried egg and cheddar with mustard butter on any bagel (I recommend the everything) at Bagelsaurus is delicious. Flour's breakfast sandwich is also good, but I find it to be a bit large for a breakfast.

Erbaluce isn't too far away either - depends on what you consider walking distance and what your price point is.

Romantic dinner gift

I love Sorrelina and am not a huge fan of Mistral. Sorrelina isn't the typical red-sauce Italian and it's a wonderful space.

Both Posto and Belly have whole-animal type dinners. I haven't done either, but have heard good things.

Where You Go as Opposed to Where you are Supposed to Go?

I really love Hillstone and can be found at many a greasy spoon for a breakfast sandwich. Capitol Coffee House and Hungry Traveler are my favorites!

Restaurants with parking?

Are you specifically looking for a free parking lot? Any specific neighborhood? There aren't a ton of restaurants that have that in the downtown area. If you're willing to pay for parking (garage, valet) you'll have more - or if you're willing to range further from the city. I haven't been to Cinquecento yet, but they have free parking.

Instacart works with Whole Foods. I haven't tried them yet, but hear good things.

non vday vday dinner

I really like Boston Chops! For the record, the loaded poutine baked potato isn't as amazing as it sounds. However, the steak frites with unlimited frites really is unlimited - the server told my DC that no one ever gets a second serving which he took as a challenge and obviously got the second serving. But I like the vibe, the food is good - I bet you'll enjoy it!

Looking for suggestions end of April -

I'll just share my most favorite spots in the Boston area:

For lunch: Cutty's (sandwiches, Brookline), Sofra (Mediterranean bakery, Watertown/Cambridge)
For dinner: Salty Pig (charcuterie and cheese, Back Bay), Myers + Chang (Asian Fusion, South End), Oleana (Mediterranean, Cambridge), Sorrellina (Italian splurge, Back Bay)

In terms of walking distance from the Nine Zero, I like the Oceannaire (seafood) and Petit Robert Central (French) and you have Chinatown pretty close by as well.

Business lunch in Brighton?

Certainly not fancy, but the Pizzeria Regina in Allston isn't far off and isn't bad - though if you're up for going to Allston, you certainly have other options. Those who are familiar with Brighton Center may have some suggestions.

Gaslight560 - anyone been here? Review/comments?

The first place that comes to mind that accommodates groups well, has similar food options, and that I'd prefer to Gaslight is one of the Petit Robert locations. My favorite is Petit Robert Central (downtown) which is accessible to a lot of (not free) parking, always has space, doesn't get too loud, and the food is good. I'm not sure why it isn't crowded all the time - we love it.

Best sources for variety of chili peppers?

Definitely smaller - they cut out prepared foods and the deli counter, among other things. They do still have the bulk section and bulk spices, both of which I love!

Looking for our new go-to restaurants: strong flavors, fun atmospheres

I'm excited to follow this thread because I, too, have very similar taste.

Places I also enjoy (many repeats): Sarma, Salty Pig, Myers + Chang, East by Northeast, Alden and Harlow, Orinoco
For fancy nights out: Sorellina
A casual lunch or dinner: Mei Mei

Also, two fun steakhouses that aren't too steakhouse-y: Boston Chops and Bogie's Place

Lastly, recently went to Foundry on Elm for the first time in ages. While the food isn't knock it out of the park, it was pretty good and I really liked the vibe.

Casual, cozy restaurant for lunch in Back Bay area

I'll add Met Back Bay to the mix - they have quite a few rooms so none is particularly large, the food (especially lunch) is solid with quite a few options, and they take reservations. It's one of my go-to's for things like this.

Hmm - I've never had anything but good service there. My bigger complaint about EVOO is the ambience - nice, but nothing special. The food, however, I love!

Graduation dinner/May 2015

Are you looking to eat closer to your hotel or closer to the graduation? There are a handful of really great but not too 'out there' restaurants near Harvard that are worth looking into - Alden and Harlow, Rialto, Harvest.
