Beyond the Frost Ice Bar, Boston

If you're committed to a hotel bar, maybe the Ames Hotel or Nix's Mate? Both slightly further, but I'd say worth it.

Christmas Dinner 2014 reservations

I was going to suggest calling Petit Robert Central to see if they'd be open - I think they're nice without being stuffy, and delicious to boot.

Christmas Dinner 2014 reservations

The Boston Ritz is fairly new, and I found the restaurant there pretty unremarkable. If you're going for a hotel experience in that area, I'd lean toward the Four Seasons or the Taj, in the former Ritz building. By spiffy do you mean formal, or fancy? Do you have a price range at all?

Who's featuring local (New England) cheeses?

I recently had a meal at Park, which began with a cheese board featuring mainly local cheeses.

Out of town friends visiting for a weekend - help with ideas

Maybe Kendall Square? Mead Hall, Cambridge Brewing Company, Lord Hobo. There's good food in the area too!

Central Square walk-ins on a Thursday night?

If you're looking to be a short-ish walk from Central, I'd go with Green Street. Baraka's not as nice as the other places you mentioned, though the food is great. Craigie's not far away if you're headed toward Kendall, also near Salts. If you're headed toward Harvard, Garden at the Cellar's there. Out toward Inman, maybe Oleana?

Your favorite nightlife spots for a drink

Beehive is only a couple blocks away - they have fun cocktails, though not something I'd compare to the Hawthorne or Liquid Art House. They also have live music. If you're looking to be a five-minute walk from the hotel, there aren't many standouts. Salty Pig has a great beer selection, but it's more of a restaurant than a bar/lounge. Lolita's a swanky spot, though I haven't had the cocktails.

Heading to Boston this weekend...made a reservation at Grotto & Island Creek Oyster

ICOB is a great move. I'm not a huge fan of Grotto. If you're considering Mamma Maria's, I think that's a far better decision.

Lunch Near North Station

How mobile are you? With a few hours, I'd be inclined to range a bit further from North Station, which would give you more options.

Flour Bakery

While I work nearby, I don't generally get the pastries. I'll occasionally get a cookie - I can't say no to the oreos - but the thing I really love at Flour is the sandwiches. Good bread, good ingredients, not too big.

49 Social?

My most recent experiences there have included fine food but pretty high prices. There are other better options in the neighborhood, in my opinion.

Beyond the Frost Ice Bar, Boston

I haven't been yet, but people seem to like Parla which would be a pretty short walk. You'd probably have quite a few options in the North End.

Beacon Hill Bar Crawl

Yeah, I'm with you - Beacon Hill isn't really a craft cocktail destination. If you're deadset on the location, some options might include 75 Chestnut, Bin 26... I think Lala Rokh has a small bar?

Restaurant/bar for deep conversation over dinner

Great thought on EVOO - the food's delicious, and it usually isn't too crowded. I've had really great vegetarian things there - and the salad with rabbit, if it's on the menu, is great.

Relative Chinatown novice - need dinner recs

I'm definitely one of the intimidated - there are some things on menus that may be written in the Roman alphabet, but there's no description and I can't figure out what it means. Googling rarely helps, too -- and sometimes, different places will make the "same thing" differently so I'm not always sure what I'll get. I've found things that generally seem consistent so I always know how to get something I'm sure of if I'm not up for a challenge.

Too bad - it definitely makes my reading experience a lot worse. It'd be great if they were slightly smaller or something even. Oh well. Thank you for your help.

RSS photo issue

Hey all,

Has anyone had the problem of a CHOW branded photo loading in front of more than half the posts when reading on an RSS aggregator? I love to quickly page through posts but the large pictures taking up space are making it so hard to do that. The pictures are about 1/3 screen height and when they precede a two sentence reply about a restaurant, it's quite frustrating. Thank you!

The best (non-tourist) seafood restaurants in Boston proper, please.

I know it's not quite as foodie as some others, but I recently had a stellar meal at the Oceannaire. Very expensive, but delicious.

Restaurant Week Starts Tonight

We went to Toro once (when they did dinner) and enjoyed it. Others have suggested Mistral and No. 9 Park to me - not sure if they participated this year.

Otto in Coolidge Corner Open

I regularly get slices at their Harvard location and I've never had that problem. Maybe they put them back in the oven for too long? What a disappointment!

I think for your area, Mike and Patty's is your best breakfast option but they don't have much in terms of seating.

Wanted: Authentic German Food!!!

While this is an old thread, I'm happy to add more information about German food to the web! Though not "authentic" per se, Bronwyn has some seriously delicious German-style food that my very German mom and I really enjoyed. Their wursts (homemade) are delicious.
