Hungry teens/cheapskate husband. Can this vacation be saved?

dont know where you're staying in Tribeca, or if it involves a weekday (you did say long weekend) but if you want a "quintessential" ny eating experience then you have to eat from a street vendor.
in front of 390 greenwich st, on weekdays, there is falafel vendor that makes the best falafel in the area. for $5 the falafel over rice is a ton of food and the flavors are great. somedays they have hummus to go with it, some days salad and pickles, others roasted eggplant and sometimes all of it.
my co-workers also tell me the chicken over rice is delishus too. $5 too)
they also serve fried fish there too. and sodas (or water) are included in the $5.

Brooklyn Egg Creams

well then (in my best emily litella voice) nevermind

Brooklyn Egg Creams

I live in bay ridge too. its open. seeing you're post was in july, maybe they were closed for vacation?

Good Lunch around 53rd and Lex?

Working up here for a few days/weeks
Best pizza, falafel/burritos/indian?
street carts too?

thanks

Mustang Thakali Kitchen (nepalese in J.H.)-anyone been?

Went this afternoon. Excellent
Samosa Chaat was sweet and just enough spicy. Vegetable Thukpa was awesome soup for a raw day. Tasted something toasted in it but couldnt put my finger on what it was. Loved the flavors, but after a 3rd of the way thru I decided to add some fresh chiles to it and made it taste even better.
My wife had the chicken curry lunch special. She loved it and said it tasted just like her moms (she's guyanese, so that might give you an idea of the taste)

Best Thai In Midtown?

East or west, doesnt matter
Co-worker has got a dinner date tonite

Looking for a nice place to have dinner
One that will have choices for 1 non meat eater (me)
Other than that, we're open to most types of cuisines
Any suggestions?

Mumbai Express

all I can say, is its worth the trip
we've been out there 2x in less than a month and planning on going again real soon

What shouldn't I miss at Bklyn Fairway?

fairway is worth the visit if only for the freshly sliced smoked fish
too many places only carry the prepackaged stuff
never tastes as good, imo

Mumbai Express

went to mumbai express yesterday after reading the voice review
definitely worth the trip from brooklyn and will go back for more
the samosa chaat was great as was the mumbai grilled sandwich
we're going back to queens today and hoping to find the time to at least go there and get some stuff to go

Brooklyn Pizza along Belt Parkway

Seeking best Turkish food in Sheepshead Area

Turqua Grill in Bay Ridge
5th Ave and 96th St
excellent food
less than 30 min fron Sheepshead Bay
and well worth the hassle of finding parking

Roti in South Brooklyn?

yea
we order from Taj quite frequently
When they see our number, they basically know what we're going to ask for

Roti in South Brooklyn?

none are too far, have car, will travel and might even checkout breeze
and can always get home cooked at my mom in law in jamaica queens
guess I shoulda been more specific
looking for something close to bay ridge

Roti in South Brooklyn?

Looking for Roti style shop in south brooklyn
Anything?

Grand Sichuan House, Faith is Restored !

yes grand sichuan is excellent
there are many restaurants in bay ridge worth the "easy 20 min drive" ( I love new comers to NY/Brooklyn that make it sound like they went on a trek to go anywhere in the 5 boros)
Sorry for the snark, couldnt help myself
Like I said Grand Sichuan is excellent, and I have to admit, didnt even know about it til I read about it here last year
There are many excellent food choices here in Bay Ridge, you should come down here to visit us natives more often and try them out

Saluggi's Pizza

yes
they do
I have ordered from them once so far
quick and hot

Saluggi's Pizza

i know they serve beer
dont know about wine or fresh basil

Good restaurant in Bayridge for office dinner.

I live in Bay Ridge
and altho I have never been there, I hear good things about Lai Yuen (4th Ave and 101st, I think)
I have been to Turqua (3rd and 99th, I think) Excellent med/turkish
MyThai on 3rd and 77th (I think, sorry, I never seem to know the exact cross street, but always the rite ave)

btw you can also go to bayridgetalk.com and check threads and ask questions there
they/we are quite an outspoken bunch

Fried Pickles anywhere?o_O

well
dont know if you want to go there
but
Hooters does serve them
and they go really well with blue moon beer

Saluggi's Pizza

went back again last nite
just to see if it was as good
was better
i hope this place lasts as the pizza here in tribeca, where I work is not too good
this place really is a huge step up and on my way to the subway at nite
place has been empty when I've been there(after 6pm)

Saluggi's Pizza

Ate at this place last nite
On Church between Canal and Lispenard
Definetly a gourmet style pizza
Thick heavy slabs of cheese on top of a very tasty sauce with parmesan (I think) sprinkled on top. A thin but cruchy crust. It did flop a little at the tip, but no matter
Was excellent

Michael's in Brooklyn

yccccccccchhhhhhhhh, means I didnt like it
guess I should have been more verbose, sorry
but like I also said
i'm the only one in my family, extended and otherwise, that thinks so
so, what the hell do I know
I just think the food is nothing special
I dont see why the place gets such a good rep, in and out of my family
been going there for years, for one function or another, and am completely underwhelmed each time

Michael's in Brooklyn

yccccccchhhhhhhhhhh
of course in my family, I'm in the minority in that review

Real Brooklyn Pizza

i feel xactly the same way
to the point of snobbishness about any pizza not made in brooklyn
some think I'm crazy.......and I just may be

Real Brooklyn Pizza

i dont get my fellow bay ridgers fascination w/ pizza wagon
been there a few times, just dont get it

having said that
in my opinion
Grandmas on 3rd ave btween ovington and 69th is my fav in the neighborhood by far
especially their margherita

Real Sichuan food in Bay Ridge

me too
and its not a blog!

Bay Ridge pizza rules!

I still say Grandmas (3rd btween Ovington and 69th) makes the best pizza
'specially the margherita
