Art's Deli in Westport for Italian Subs...the best around, not super ez off/on the highway, but about a mile or so off Exit 17. Definitely worth it if you are looking for a great italian sub...

New Canaan - South End

We went a couple of weeks ago. Not very impressed, it was very very loud, lots of young kids, couldn't even hear the waiter speak and the place was half empty.
Food was okay, very expensive for what it was. Pasta with rabbit ragu was filled with tiny bones, was tasty, but that just made it unpleasant. Bolognese was decent. Salmon was cooked well, skin was nice and crispy, but it was totally unseasoned, no flavor at all in the dish. Entrees came out very quickly after the apps. We wouldn't return, but they seem to be doing a decent business.

Top Chef Masters "Episode 7: Culinary Knock Out" (9/5/12) [*SPOILERS*]

Unfortunately when they rerun the episodes they add all this garbage at the bottom third of the screen...tweets, comments, really annoying stuff. It especially irks me because half the time it is covering up the food and you can't see anything!

Why Are There No Great Restaurants In Fairfield County?

Schoolhouse is good, but it is very limited in the menu, only 5 options for each apps and entrees. While it is one of our regular places, it's certainly not "world class food". It is very seasonal, simple preparations, done quite well, without any fanfare. If you are looking for something on par with Per Se or Daniel then you should drive to NYC.

Why Are There No Great Restaurants In Fairfield County?

Yep, like I said, it's good, not great...we went back last week after not having been for a few months...it was nice to see they finally had some new things on the menu. Not sure why a place can't be "great" if it doesn't have a tasting menu though...

Why Are There No Great Restaurants In Fairfield County?

The Cioppino is always really tasty, a little different every time, but the fish is always very well cooked. Salads have been a little inconsistent, especially the shaved veggie one. The first time i had it it was beautiful, tons of different ingredients, the next two times it was soggily overdressed and lacking in variety. The tuna tartare with eggplant and chickpeas is also really nice.

Why Are There No Great Restaurants In Fairfield County?

It's good, not great. Had high hopes when they opened last summer, then as with so many "seasonal" places who promise a constantly changing menu, it stagnated from September through the Spring...we haven't been back in a while, maybe it's changed now.

Why Are There No Great Restaurants In Fairfield County?

We ate at Elm a few times. Food was very good the first couple of times, not as good the last time we went. I find the service to be so fussy and ridiculous that they end up neglecting tables. One time we waited and waited for menus, finally asked one of the 4 hostesses who were standing chatting at the stand for them, and instead of turning around and giving them to us, she went to find our waiter who had to then come get them and give them to us! And if you arent' going to give menus when you sit down, at least give a wine list or ask if you want a drink.

Eleven 14 - J House Hotel - Greenwich

Well...you can make a reservation on opentable, and I'm not a friend...so it would appear to be open to the public! In any case, many restaurants have service issues at the beginning while they work out the kinks...

The Whelk, Westport, CT.

We have been there a number of times and have enjoyed everything we've eaten. My feeling is that they are a bit overwhelmed with the number of people coming in every night and could use some more waitstaff out there. It seems as though one waiter covers half the tables plus one of the community tables. Took a long time to get our empty plates cleared last time for both courses.
That being said, we do appreciate the friendly service from the waiters and the conversation and don't mind waiting a little longer knowing they might be chatting with a customer and they'll get to us soon.
Beyond that, they do take credit cards for all of their reservations, same at their other place, and same as the Schoolhouse has been doing lately. Too many no shows, so they have to protect themselves. And sometimes when we make reservations at busy places, they say yes, we can seat you but we do need the table at (insert time), especially if you have a larger party, so in my opinion it's understandable...of course not if it was done rudely as you said.

Elm Restaurant in New Canaan

We went...it was delicious...the pricing and stuff is talked about in the CT Bites article...menu changes all the time but you can get a good sense of what they have from that article as well.

There is far better sushi in the area...Fin in Fairfield is our favorite, Matsu Sushi in Westport is good, as is Kazu in SoNo.

The Whelk, Westport, CT.

Menu changes often...it's gotten longer since they first opened too, more choices. Crab fondue app is really good...mussels are always delicious...smoked trout dip yum...lamb burger is really nice. Place seems to be doing really well, always packed, fun vibe, tasty food. Report back, would love to hear what you had!

Looking for the best destination restaurants in RI, Mass, and CT

We went to Bistro Basque based on all the rave reviews here and were just really unimpressed. Thought it was just okay, never went back.
Barcelona is good, we go there all the time for tapas, I'm just saying in my opinion it is not a "destination" restaurant. If I drove over an hour to go there, I would be really disappointed. Lots of places have cookbooks, doesn't make them a destination.
Different strokes for different folks, just trying to give other opinions!

Artisan is good. I certainly wouldn't drive an hour to eat there. It was very good when they first opened, and been a little more on the average side since. Menu has been pretty stagnant for a place saying they were going to change it very often.
There are a few on Stylo's list that we love, but most of the others are not "destination" restaurants in my opinion.
Barcelona is good, but it's Tapas...nothing special, certainly not a destination place. Same goes for Coromandel...decent Indian, nothing you can't find in most towns.
Tried Bistro Basque, thought it was mediocre, wouldn't return. Barcelona is better for tapas.

Well, he did leave Harvest, and was at Bar Rossa, and is certainly no longer at Harvest, so who is the chef there now? We were regulars and definitely felt a drop off in the food when he was not in the kitchen on a daily basis. Glad you had a good meal there in November, sorry to say we were disappointed the last few times we went. Too bad, we really liked it!

Have you been to Harvest Supper lately? We used to love it, but once the chef went elsewhere we felt it really went downhill. Any current info?

Help - Boss needs to pick up takeout lunch for five enroute Bridgeport to Westport, CT

Garelick and Herbs or Balducci's in Westport both have tons of sandwiches, salads, etc. Garelick probably has more variety and it's probably fresher and better.
Chef's Table in Fairfield also has tons of sandwiches, salads, etc., maybe even pizza if I'm not mistaken.
Closer to Kings Highway is The Wild Pear. Same kind of stuff as the other places. http://thewildpearct.com/
