Eleven 14 - J House Hotel - Greenwich

Well...you can make a reservation on opentable, and I'm not a friend...so it would appear to be open to the public! In any case, many restaurants have service issues at the beginning while they work out the kinks...

Eleven 14 - J House Hotel - Greenwich

It's been active on opentable.com for a while now, so that would indicate they are "officially" open to me...

Bacon

Where? This board covers a lot of territory!

Mexican food, Ffld, Cty.

New to the area? You've been around here for years! To start a new post, click the START NEW THREAD button, it's right at the top on the left.

The Whelk, Westport, CT.

We have been there a number of times and have enjoyed everything we've eaten. My feeling is that they are a bit overwhelmed with the number of people coming in every night and could use some more waitstaff out there. It seems as though one waiter covers half the tables plus one of the community tables. Took a long time to get our empty plates cleared last time for both courses.
That being said, we do appreciate the friendly service from the waiters and the conversation and don't mind waiting a little longer knowing they might be chatting with a customer and they'll get to us soon.
Beyond that, they do take credit cards for all of their reservations, same at their other place, and same as the Schoolhouse has been doing lately. Too many no shows, so they have to protect themselves. And sometimes when we make reservations at busy places, they say yes, we can seat you but we do need the table at (insert time), especially if you have a larger party, so in my opinion it's understandable...of course not if it was done rudely as you said.

Elm Restaurant in New Canaan

We went...it was delicious...the pricing and stuff is talked about in the CT Bites article...menu changes all the time but you can get a good sense of what they have from that article as well.

Sakura - Westport

There is far better sushi in the area...Fin in Fairfield is our favorite, Matsu Sushi in Westport is good, as is Kazu in SoNo.

The Whelk, Westport, CT.

Menu changes often...it's gotten longer since they first opened too, more choices. Crab fondue app is really good...mussels are always delicious...smoked trout dip yum...lamb burger is really nice. Place seems to be doing really well, always packed, fun vibe, tasty food. Report back, would love to hear what you had!

Looking for the best destination restaurants in RI, Mass, and CT

We went to Bistro Basque based on all the rave reviews here and were just really unimpressed. Thought it was just okay, never went back.
Barcelona is good, we go there all the time for tapas, I'm just saying in my opinion it is not a "destination" restaurant. If I drove over an hour to go there, I would be really disappointed. Lots of places have cookbooks, doesn't make them a destination.
Different strokes for different folks, just trying to give other opinions!

Around the World in 80 Plates [Split from Top Chef thread]

Gordon Ramsey's Great Escapes...British yes, playing repeats on BBC America now.

Fairfield - Expanding & Closing - Moltos, Quattro Pazzi, Kobis

It's right next to Fin, across the parking lot from Molto...not attached to Molto but a stone's throw away.

New England not well represented on 101 best restaurant list.

Ah, my mistake...

New England not well represented on 101 best restaurant list.

The whole list is in the USA...

Looking for the best destination restaurants in RI, Mass, and CT

Artisan is good. I certainly wouldn't drive an hour to eat there. It was very good when they first opened, and been a little more on the average side since. Menu has been pretty stagnant for a place saying they were going to change it very often.
There are a few on Stylo's list that we love, but most of the others are not "destination" restaurants in my opinion.
Barcelona is good, but it's Tapas...nothing special, certainly not a destination place. Same goes for Coromandel...decent Indian, nothing you can't find in most towns.
Tried Bistro Basque, thought it was mediocre, wouldn't return. Barcelona is better for tapas.

Underwhelmed by Napa & Co (Stamford, CT)

Yeah, he's definitely full time at the Whelk...saw him there twice, he's not at Harvest any more.

Underwhelmed by Napa & Co (Stamford, CT)

Well, he did leave Harvest, and was at Bar Rossa, and is certainly no longer at Harvest, so who is the chef there now? We were regulars and definitely felt a drop off in the food when he was not in the kitchen on a daily basis. Glad you had a good meal there in November, sorry to say we were disappointed the last few times we went. Too bad, we really liked it!

Underwhelmed by Napa & Co (Stamford, CT)

Have you been to Harvest Supper lately? We used to love it, but once the chef went elsewhere we felt it really went downhill. Any current info?

Help - Boss needs to pick up takeout lunch for five enroute Bridgeport to Westport, CT

Garelick and Herbs or Balducci's in Westport both have tons of sandwiches, salads, etc. Garelick probably has more variety and it's probably fresher and better.
Chef's Table in Fairfield also has tons of sandwiches, salads, etc., maybe even pizza if I'm not mistaken.
Closer to Kings Highway is The Wild Pear. Same kind of stuff as the other places. http://thewildpearct.com/

Lunch in Stamford, Ct

No it's not. Shake Shack took over where Pho Mekong was. Pane Bene took over where Pho Garden was. A little down the street where Innovation Luggage is.

Good Asian Market in Fairfield County?

Where in BPT is it? Sounds like a great find!

Kitchen Nightmares Routines

In my experience the relaunch usually starts out well, then there is some snafu, and then they miraculously pull it together and end the service on a good note. So yes, I've seen episodes where the re-opening is a success. That being said, you really can't watch this show without a little suspension of disbelief...

Burger Bar SoNo

Meh. There are far better (although more expensive) burgers to be had in the area. We've been there a couple of times...I found the food to be mediocre and the service poor.

Desperate for suggestions - First wedding anniversary somewhat near Madison, CT.

Food is very mediocre in my opinion...I wouldn't make the trip to go there.

January Bon Appétit -- not bad, not bad at all...

I agree...thought it was a great issue, lots of interesting recipes...it made me go out and purchase Plenty, and I've made a bunch of those recipes, good stuff! The info on their "Food Lovers Cleanse" was also really good, and I've tried a few of those dishes as well. The article on Thai cooking was also nice, although the formatting made me think it was an advertisement at first!

NY Times Westchester reviews

Same for the Connecticut section. Just terrible. And their rating categories are ridiculous. "Worth It". I think 99% of the restaurants are given a "Worth It". Makes it all "Worthless".

any suggestions for New Haven?...would like a really good place for dinner...no pizza, please

I agree with the Ibiza rec...great food, in my opinion the best place in New Haven to eat. Never heard of John Davenports...

Bonda - Fairfield

Food is mediocre at best. We went a few months after they opened. Menu is kind of all over the place, no real focus. Way better places in the area to go to these days!

restaurant for lunch near Omni Hotel New Haven

Wow...that's too bad, it's not actually IN the hotel, just right outside the front door to the left if you are facing the street. Sorry for not being clear on that...

restaurant for lunch near Omni Hotel New Haven

We've eaten at this Barcelona many times...it is better than the Fairfield one, on par with the SoNo one...I've heard that the Stamford one is really good but we haven't been there.
