Sichuan Kitchen near All Saints DLR, London

has anyone been to super three which is pretty much next door? they've got a chinese language menu with mainly (i think) sicuan stuff on it, but there's pics for every dish so its pretty easy to order. i stopped in and just had a bowl of ma po tofu on my way to city airport & it was really nice & spicy. i cant see much written about it, just this - http://local.powerapple.com/dp/subjec...

Best coffee places in London

'Workshop Coffee - same people behind the Melbourne place.'

not sure if this is true?

when they first opened they were called 'st ali' and had something to do w/ the place in melbourne but since the name change i'm pretty sure they've severed ties

Hamburg - Extra spicy experience at Sala Thai

next time yr in hamburg you should go to this tiny thai place my friend took us to... it looks like its at approx Große Freiheit 37. you'll see a sign saying 'thai paradies' which (i think?) is for the strip club, but next to it is a tiny restaurant without a sign. there one lady serving and one lady cooking, and everything we had was really good and really spicy... som tum thai, larb pla, larb moo, yam moon sen..

northern chinese bbq & other fun stuff @ top taste (?) 129 roman road E2 [London]

ok so we had -

- balloon flower: i hadnt had this before, it was a (cold) shredded root vegetable coated in a kind of chili oil. it almost seemed kind of korean? nice start. and only £2.50
- bbq lamb skewers, bbq chinese bun, bbq 'parsley roll: these were all really good, the lamb skewers were quite small for £1/each but i think the price would be more reasonable if you ordered them by the plate (which was an option). the thing that was called 'parsley roll' was (not surprisingly) coriander that had been enclosed in some sort of wrap & then bbq'd. there were quite a few things on this section of the menu... would definitely like to investigate further.
- pork in hot chili oil & di san xian: these were about £6 each & both were delicious. they didnt skimp on the sichuan peppercorns with the pork and the di san xiam was fried nicely.

it was just my gf & i so we couldnt fit in much more, even tho there were a lot of other interesting things to order. there's one menu full of generic stuff & another with all the real things - its's pretty easy to navigate, they've highlighted all of their specialities. recommended.

i wrote out a big thing about this place & then clicked post & it disappeared and now i really cant be bothered re-typing it. but i will later! in the mean time - has anyone else been here? we went for the first time tonight & i think its great. not sure how obscure it is - i saw it listed on some chinese website detailing good london chinese restaurants and it was the only one i hadnt heard of, but that might just be me...

London (and beyond) with Sydneysiders

i lived in sydney before i came here so i thought i'd chime in as well. i like all of those options, the friends that we've had visiting have definitely enjoyed most of those places.

unlike phild i think a burger place would still be a good option, when i was back in sydney at the beginning of last year there were definitely some more places that had opened but they werent the same style of fast food/ diner still burger. maybe its changed now tho?

for beer - i'd recommend southampton arms (esp if you go to the bull & last which is nearby) or the jolly butchers or the cock tavern over brewdog camden but thats because i dislike both brewdog & camden (to each their own)

went to the british museum today w/ my gf so we had to stop off here... got the big plate chicken for 2 + a plate of the pork dumplings. chicken was delicious, a lot more highly seasoned than (my memory) of the silk road version. would definitely recommend

not sure what this dish is traditionally called, apparently its from henan province according to this blog post - http://philwbass.posterous.com/changs... - that i found after googling it once i got home. anyway! really good, broth was nice & milky looking, at first i thought it was a little underseasoned but the kelp (or whatever it was) helped with that after i'd got about half way through the bowl. so yeah people should check this place out.
