Mother in law thinks fat free foods healthy.

Thanks Trockwood,
That's good advice.
You're right about not vilifying my SiL.

I don't really get in the middle, bite my tongue and all that.

Mother in law thinks fat free foods healthy.

Thanks, great advice. I'm going to try what you both suggestions.

Mother in law thinks fat free foods healthy.

My MiL is diabetic and is convinced that fat free food is okay for her to eat.

Her youngest daughter my husband's sister just recently moved in with her, while she finds a new home (going through a divorce). She is thin as a rail, eats every thing fat free and and lives on diet soda basically junk.
My Mil listens to everything she says and thinks it's the gospel.

So anyway, I stopped by Saturday and she was baking cinnamon rolls, out of those can you pop and bake . Should you be eating that I asked? My mil says, oh it's fine, their fat free. I said, but not sugar free? She says it's OK, Kim says it's OK.

I have told my husband that he needs to say something. It's crazy to me. I want to help her, she did ok before her daughter moved in, mil is pretty picky but she was eating kind of healthy. Cutting out white four and sugar.

I don't know what to say to her.

Gyro, Reuben and Southern Biscuits & Sausage Gravy -- Lay's Potato Chips....?

Thanks lemons,

I think that your name reminds of a flavor I thought might be interesting for a chip. A greek lemon feta potato style chip.

Gyro, Reuben and Southern Biscuits & Sausage Gravy -- Lay's Potato Chips....?

Tried a handful of the West cost truffle fries, I liked them. Reminded me of a garlic chip. Tasty, in a small serving. I don't know if I'd buy again, I try not to eat chips, too often.

Do they sell them in small bags? I have only seen big bags. I'd like to try the other flavors. I'm not sure I want to buy a big of all the flavors.

What's for Low-Carb Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner? #5

ham and cauliflower.

browned up the cauliflower ( cut into small to medium pieces) in butter and a little coconut oil. grated garlic a pinch of onion powder and some thyme then added cubed ham, topped with Parmesan. Served with green beans.

It is so good tastes like hash browns and ham.

No Carb "snacks"

Chicken or turkey meatballs. I add minced garlic, grated carrot, chopped spinach and parmesan, almond flour, egg and to make sure they are moist a couple tablespoons of butter or coconut oil.
Bake a big batch and keep in fridge. Heat or eat cold very filling.
You can of course add or leave out whatever your child likes. Good luck.

What to stock kitchen with for friend?

Thank you all for answering my question. I made salads and soups and stock and stocked her fridge with fruits and veggies printed out some easy recipes and a few herb plants.
I talked to her husband about the alcohol he said he had cleared it out, but hadn't thought of the glasses, wine rack ect. So he told me to go ahead and do that. My husband helped me pack it up and move it to the basement.

The idea of the chocolate bars is great. I never would of thought of that.

Most definitely inviting them over for dinner next week.

She is a good woman and I just want to help her as much as I can without butting in too much. That's why I thought to do this while they were out of town.
Again thanks to all that helped me.

What to stock kitchen with for friend?

beevod, I just mean things that were healthy and comforting. I have read that when a person stops drinking they can have lots of discomfort, head aches, shills, stomach cramps.

for example I want to make a chilled carrot ginger soup. I have never had to suffer through alcohol issues , but when I'm feeling sick ginger tea helps me. I thought a ginger carrot soup would be good lunch or dinner when my friend is not feeling well.

What to stock kitchen with for friend?

My very good friend told me she was going to stop drinking. Her husband said things had to change and she agreed. They are going away this weekend to try to relax after this hard but needed decision.
I have the keys to their home and I want stock their kitchen with healthy healing foods. My friend isn't much of a cook and the husband works long hours. They don't have any restrictions, well except alcohol. They don't have children so I don't have to consider that. What are some things that I should buy or prepare for them?

Muffin turkey meatloaf

Thanks for the advice. Yeah so I thought about it and changed it to turkey/cornbread meatballs. I'm making a turkey gravy and serving them in a crackpot with gravy. I will add coconut oil to the mixture to keep it moist. I still want to add the dried cranberries but I'm not sure.
I think the gravy will help keep them most and warm in crock pot.

I just wanted to bring something different because I hate sloppy joes and Don't eat much deli meat lol.

Muffin turkey meatloaf

I have to bring meat/protein to an end of school dinner. I know that sloppy joes and a deli meat platter are being served. I think corn bread turkey meatloaf baked I muffin pans, would be great. I'm adding dried cranberries to the cornbread turkey mixture.

My question is what do you all think of Pepper jelly as a glaze? Should I mix it with something else or maybe a different topping?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

How do you take your hard boiled eggs (when you eat them as-is)?

If they are warm, just cooked, a dab of unsalted butter and s/p.
Cold - with a bit of s/p

I also like a crusty buttery toast with sliced hard boiled egg and sliced radishes s/p.

Are you hungry after a bowl of oatmeal?

I gave up trying to have oatmeal for breakfast. Instead I have a small portion once in a while as an afternoon snack and a sweet treat.

I'm glad to read that others have a similar experience.

Avocado for breakfast

I eat avocado on English Muffin a lot. I have never tried it with honey, sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a try.
I usually eat it with a slice of tomato or hard boiled egg. Or a small scoop of cottage cheese. Lots of black pepper and salt.

Thanks for the suggestion.
