Wine bars

Toast, in the North Loop, has a very nice food menu (the chickpea and avocado crostini is a personal favorite). It's usually a very reasonable noise level. I've always been able to find a seat, although groups larger than 4 might have a harder time.

North Loop Lunch & Parking

Fair enough. Wasn't sure if that was the case, but thanks for letting me know.

The only other nearby ramp that I know of, that is not connected to an apartment/condo building, is the one just down the street from Darby's, near where the Interchange is going in. That's about 3 blocks from Smack Shack, but again, may be contract only. I just know it's not connected to housing.

There really isn't much in terms of surface parking lots until you get closer to downtown (starting around 3rd). There is a lot across from Acme Comedy Club, but it tends to be full with workers during the day.

Best bet tends to be street parking, but availability definitely does vary.

North Loop Lunch & Parking

As a North Loop resident, the advice I always give friends is to try a block or two off Washington toward the river. That generally seems to work. My guess is that you had bad luck. Usually you can find something unless the Twins are playing.

There's also a pay ramp across from Clubhouse Jager, although I don't know if it's open parking or contract.

Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant recommendations?

I'll second Republic (although I've only been to the 7 Corners location), and also throw in The Gray House in LynLake. Had a very nice dinner there Tuesday.

Dinner near Macalester College

Grand Pad Thai is our go-to Thai restaurant. Can't speak for authenticity, but it's delicious and right next to Mac.

Candy Store (MSP)

I'll second the Regina's recommendation. They make a decent amount of their candy as well.

Ginger Beer

It's sweeter than Reed's, with less of a kick. Still stronger than a ginger ale though.

Ginger Beer

I believe the Dark and Spicy at Parlour is made with a house-made ginger beer. It's heavy on the spices, but that may have been from the rum.

Vegan recommendations?

My vegan sister has liked Ecopolitan, the Birchwood, and Birdhouse in the past (although there were limited choices for her at Birdhouse). We've also had good luck at Spoonriver for fancier meals.

Vegan-friendly in Memphis?

I'm meeting family in Memphis and hoping to come up with a list of restaurants that can accommodate both omnivores and vegans (even if it's just one vegan entree). We're staying downtown but will have cars. Not looking for super fancy, as one of the people is a toddler ($20 per person is probably more than we'll spend on any meal).

Any advice would be very much appreciated!
