Le P'tit Plateau

Le P'tit Plateau used to get a lot of praise but is rarely mentioned anymore. I know things change and not necessarily for the better. Anyone been there lately?

Chez Clo is Chez Closed!

One of my all-time favorite breakfast joints has closed.
I went there for breakfast last Thursday and the À Vendre
signs were in the window. It must have just happened;
the sugar dispensers and the salt and pepper shakers
were still on the tables. Chez Clo had been around for
what seems like forever and I gladly made the trip down to
the east end whenever I was in town. What happened?

Chien-Chaud Victoire (Great Hot Dog Place In Montréal)

I hate to disillusion you, but this place is nothing special. The hot dogs are average, just like the fries. The place itself has no charm whatsoever, and I suspect they would have gone out
of business many years ago if it weren't for the business generated by the many office towers in the immediate area.

Habs game on TV + decent food?

I recommend La Cabane (3872 St-Laurent/Napoléon). Unless it's changed in the past year, it definitely fits the bill ... good food, tv sets everywhere, cold beer, casual and relaxed atmosphere and, on game night at least, it's a busy place without being over-crowded. As long as your a Canadiens fan, you'll fit right in.
Cheers.

APDC reservations and seasonal menus

I'll be in Montreal for a few days in mid-October. I'd like to give APDC a try, but I'm reluctant to make a reservation because my schedule is so uncertain. What would my chances be like If I were alone, showed up early on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening and asked for a seat at the bar/counter? Could I walk right in?
I've seen the regular menu online and read several blogs about people's favorite dishes. I'm tempted by the 'côte de cochon heureux' and curious to know if the 'steak de cerf' and the 'cassoulet' will be offered this fall. Also, has anyone tried APDC's version of 'paté chinois'? And finally, I'm torn between the 'pouding chômeur' and the 'pot de crème au chocolat noir' for dessert.
Any advice from Au Pied de Cochon veterans would be appreciated.

Best regards,
Red Sauce.

Top Notch Italian in Montreal?

I have a few suggestions for you ...

1) Restaurant Roberto (2221 Belanger E.)
2) DiMenna (6313 Jarry E.)
3) Casa Cacciatore (170 Jean-Talon E.)

Or, for something a little less expensive, try Il Piatto Pieno (177 St-Zotique E.)

Hope this helps,
Cheers.

Miracle Pizzeria, best greasy spoon?

I saw this place referred to as the hands-down best 'greasy spoon' in the neighborhood (Notre-Dame O. @ du Couvent), serving perhaps the best 'greasy spoon' breakfast in the city, in a post from last December (mick_in_montreal). Now, this sounds like my kind of place, but I'd like to know a bit more about it before I show up for a Sunday morning 'grease fest'. If you've been there, tell me about it - OR - if you have a favorite 'greasy spoon' (other than Cosmo's) that you feel deserves a mention, here's your chance.

Classic Montreal Steakhouse

Thanks kpzoo. That was a lot to wade through and I don't think
I'm any further ahead. Anyone reading these posts would have
serious reservations about ever going to Queue de Cheval.
Cheers.

Classic Montreal Steakhouse

When it comes to classic, high-end Montreal steakhouses, I'm only aware of
a few: Moishe's, Gibby's, Queue de Cheval and Rib 'N Reef. Are there any
others out there and, if so, can you describe your personal experience with them?
I'm on the hook for an expensive steak dinner and I'd like to make the right choice.
The only one I've been to is Moishe's and I wasn't that impressed to be honest.
Cheers,
red sauce.

Going Greek in Montreal

I'd like some feedback on mid-range Greek restaurants in Montreal. By that I mean no souvlaki joints and nothing too high-end. I've compiled a quick list of places that I think
fit the bill, although I certainly haven't been to all of them ... Rotisserie Panama (Jean-
Talon), Philinos (Parc), New Tripolis (St-Roch), Le Jardin de Panos (Duluth), Mythos
(Parc), Marven's (Ball) and Mykonos (Monkland). I'm sure there are lots that I've missed,
so don't hesitate to add to the list. If you have any favorites, please tell me what makes
them special and, conversely, if any of these places have disappointed you, tell me
why.
Cheers,

Best Eggplant Parmesan in Montreal?

Having already asked this question once (Melanzane alla parmigiana) and receiving very little feedback, I'll pose it again, only this time in English. Who does the best eggplant parmesan in Montreal? Di Menna on Jarry has been mentioned, as have Santa Lucia on Stanley and Pasta Casareccia on Sherbrooke. Does Il Piatto della Nonna do eggplant?

So, after reading the replies, here's a brief resumé:

- Braseiro (St-Laurent) recommended.
- Coco Rico (St-Laurent) recommended.
- Rotisserie Mavi (Gatineau) 1 recommendation.
- Adega (Beaubien) 1 recommendation, tough to get to?

Not sure that we have a clear winner here, but Braseiro has generated the most favorable response so far, followed by Coco Rico. Further comments welcomed.

Here's a list of some of the more popular Portuguese rotisseries. How would you rank them and why? Some are dine-in and some are take-out. If there are other places that you think deserve consideration, please feel free to mention them in your reply.

2. Portugalia (mostly take-out)
3. Coco Rico (mostly take-out)
4. Le Roi du Plateau (mostly take-out)

Melanzane alla parmigiana

On my most recent trip to Montreal in early October I tried Pizza Villa (Papineau/St-Zotique) because 'Cheap Thrills Montreal' said they make a great eggplant parmesan. It was a pleasant little restaurant but the eggplant just sucked! I was really disappointed. So, my question is this ... where in Montreal can you get really good 'melanzane alla parmigiana'. I really enjoy Italian 'comfort food' (a first-rate lasagna will keep me coming back regularly) and an old-fashioned, family-owned neighborhood restaurant (nothing fancy or pretentious) where they take pride in what they serve. Where can I find this in Montreal?
Cheers!
