Naples: where best to buy beef, fish, and cheap(ish) decent restos

Markets - the best for beef is Jimmy P's near Coastland Center Mall. Best for fish is Swan River. Whole Foods has a very good fish selection but cannot meet Swan River's standards.

As far as affordable restaurants go check websites of Bravo, Brio, AZN, Bricktop's, Fernandez the Bull (cuban) for selection and price. Enjoy.

Naples, FL - Restaurant Recos?

Tulia and Mereday's are not to be missed. USS Nemo, Bleu Provence, Cote d"Azur, Bayhouse, Gumbo Limbo (at the Ritz Carlton Beach resort), Chops (on 5th Ave.), the Grill Room (also at the Ritz Beach resort) & Capital Grill are all very good. Hope they enjoy themselves.

Christmas Day in Naples

Likely many restaurants will be closed. Capital grill may be open. Also you can try other hotel restaurants like La Playa. The food there is generally good and the venue (right on the beach) is very nice,

Choice between Meredays and Osteria Tulia-Naples?

Tulia & Mereday's are the stars. Agree, completely different. FYI-if you eat in the bar area at Mereday's you have total flexibility with the menu and are not restricted to a specific number of courses or specific courses in general. You need to choose between authentic Italian (Tulia is not a "red sauce joint") vs a more contemporary one. All due respect to your choices but I live in Naples and I would default to Mereday's and Tulia and drop Cafe Lurcat as it is not in their league. Enjoy your trip!

Foodie hotspots Naples and Bonita

Nosh totally agree with your recs for Bonita Springs but Wyld's and Table Apart are not in my opinion in the same league as Bleu Provence, Maraday's and Tulia

Foodie hotspots Naples and Bonita

Not much in Bonita except Roy's. Angelina's is way over-rated. In Naples selections are much better. Going in order from North Naples to South - Bay House, Cote D'Azur, USS Nemo, Grill Room at Ritz Carlton, Bleu Provence, Maraday's, and my personal (hands down favorite) Osteria Tulia. Campiello's, Sea Salt & Barbatella are way over-rated for the quality of food and service you get. Enjoy!

Naples for the weekend down from Tampa.

Appreciate your comments about Bleu Provence but the kitchen does has versatility to prepare lighter fare upon request. I usually have Moules-Fittes (off the menu) or grilled fish. Their wine list is excellent and Jacques or his son know it very well.

As far as Barbatella goes my feeling is that it suffers from the same gross inconsistencies as it's sister restaurant Sea Salt suffers from. Chef Fabrizio (the owner) is an excellent chef but if he is not in the kitchen the food really suffers. Sadly, the service at each restaurant is very slow. Given the price point not worth the $$$ in my opinion.

Naples for the weekend down from Tampa.

I have the distinct pleasure of living in Naples. Looking at all the comments I offer the following. The Ritz on the beach is currently closed for renovations until late October. The only restaurant open there is Gumbo Limbo on the beach but I understand you must enter by walking south from the beach entrance on Vanderbilt beach Road.

Tulia is closed until Monday, 19 August as staff is on vacation. Campiello was a great place until Vincenzo (the owner of Tulia) left. Had lunch at Campiello 3 weeks ago and it was fair at best.

In north Naples best choices are the Capital Grill, Cote D'Azur, AZN at the Mercato & the Bay House. Moving south USS Nemo is very good. In the Old Naples area our perennial favorites are Blue Provence, Chops City Grill & Pazzo in that order. If Tulia was open I would rank it as #1 in Naples.

Have a great trip

Cooking classes in positano

My wife & I attended Mama Agata two years ago. Trust me it's worth it. First of all the setting is great and it is quite a long affair. The set up is meet on the terrace for wine & her lemon cake then observe and participate in making a multiple course meal in her kitchen. You will not leave hungry or disappointed. If I could site one negative it would be class size. As I recall we were probably 16 - 18 people.

Rome in September for my birthday - What's best for Sunday Night

We were in Roma last month. We really liked Renato & Luisa and have eaten at Enoteca Ferrara in the past and thought it was also very good. In days gone by we have enjoyed Circus at Hotel 47 so we tried on this trip. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. I would drop it from your list. Good luck.

Venice, Florence, Rome, Capri and Naples 2 weeks in Italy. Need help!

Just returned from Rome & Capri. We have hit the "big name" restaurants in Rome on previous trips so interested in hostarias and trattorias this time. We enjoyed Renato & Luisa and Hostaria da Pietro in Rome. Also (in Trastevere) Dar Peota for pizza. We wanted whole pie not by the slice.

On Capri we went "upmarket" which is very easy to do there. Da Giorgio is always our favorite. Tried Mamma (formerly Da Gemma) and liked it alot. Found L'Altro Vissani for crudo & sushi by accident. This was the big surprise and would go back in a second. Aurora has excellent food but unless you sit outside it is too crazy for me indoors. Lastly, treat for us was an afternoon at Il Riccio beach club. Reserve a few deck chairs as well as seats in restaurant. Desert room will take your breath away. Enjoy!

Rooftop in Rome

My family and I are arriving in Rome next week. I am looking for a suggestion of a rooftop location for a pre-dinner cocktail preferably near the Spanish Steps. My wife & I have been to the little bar area just to the left of the top of the Spanish Steps so we would like to try another location. Any hotels, possibly? Grazie.

Ladies' lunch Naples on 5th?

Fifth Ave is not really a great lunch destination. Third Ave is better. Agree with Sea Salt as an option and worth considering is Campiello which is right across the street. My major gripe with Sea Salt is inconsistency. I have had great meals there and lousy meals there. I do not like feeling that a meal at those price points should be a roll of the dice.

Another consideration with a venue that is great is Gumbo Limbo at the Ritz beach resort. It is right on the beach. Rec. check menu online to see if it is what you are looking for. Enjoy!

Naples Area Recommendations for Honeymoon

If you are staying in Fiddlers Creek you are actually closer to Marco Island than Naples though Naples is only about 15 minutes away. Marco does not really have any great restaurants but if you want to go to the beach some day that is your best choice.

In Naples Fifth Ave. and Third Streets are most popular for dining. A must Is Osteria Tulia, my favorite. A perennial favorite is Chops City Grill. Both are on Fifth Ave. Campiello on Third Street is very popular with the locals but since Vincenzo their chef left to open Tulia I do not think it is as good. You will hear about Sea Salt & Barbitella but both places are way too inconsistent for me. Lastly, USS Nemo is excellent as well but it is the furthest from where you are staying. Congrats & enjoy. Naples is a fabulous town. I really like living here.

Amalfi coast and Capri

In Ravello been to Rossellini's and Cumpa Cosimo. For us the later was more fun, delicious and authentic. As far as Capri, Aurora and da Giorgio were the most enjoyable in terms of food and experience. We also like Max in Positano. Lastly, one of the best nights (in Positano) we ever had was at the raw bar at Le Sirenuse. The freshest fish (raw & cooked) along with some really cold martini's. Did not disappoint.
