Myriad problems?

the service is terribly obnoxious at cafe olympico and yet they're consistently full as well. the patron/barista interaction is so brief that one can hardly expect personalized service. in fact, the only cafes that i've been to where the baristas are so attentive to people are ones that sacrifice product ie: hippy dive cafes in college towns.

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

so much for a light lunch

Has anyone been to Brochette.ca?

the amount of signage seems to have increased exponentially and it looks more like a strip club than a restaurant.

just went to their website. what a cheese fest - i love the brochette skewer scroll bar. the food pictures indicate that it is similar to all the other arab chacoal grill restaurants

Frustration with grocery chains in Montreal

the logos were there probably because you all sign the same collective bargaining agreement

Egg Rolls

heartbreak high

Hells Kitchen 8/9 - possible spoilers and Wolfgang Puck

this season is so bad - so bad that they shouldnt have even bothered

but then again, how can you top last season, except for the obese one winning. i mean, we get it, she likes food but obviously she will eat anything

Egg Rolls

Li-Chee could easily be featured on this american life (if this was america) because of the mystique and terror that place evokes. I'd be curious to learn its story - too bad the mirror didn't tease it out. Truth be told, I've always wanted to go inside and it just might be time.

Egg Rolls

theyre porky and crispy and chewy

Egg Rolls

bourbon street is shut down - it's some new bar now

Nouveau Palais for a group event?

i long for the 2002 incarnation of miami

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

man, one in toronto is a mckewan restaurant. the guy's entire empire is in toronto. by the way, i thought one was terrible and i thought the staff were horribly rude but i digress

and if we had joe's stonecrab what would be the point in going to florida

have you noticed that tourists flock to montreal for food?

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

what is a big box restaurant anyways? in my mind kelsy's is a big box restaurant.

are you talking about restaurants owned by food network hosts? what exactly does toronto have that we don't in the way of fine dining? the only difference is price. by the way, trust me, we aren't missing out on anything by not having a mark mckewan restaurant - by the why, the guy is from and lives in toronto. i don't really understand your point at all.

if you are suggesting that toronto's restaurant scene has something i ncommon with the las vegas strip, yo uare wrong.

Egg Rolls

i guess she must live there
when we were in high school we would dare each other to go knock on the door
would you suggest a visit even today?

Egg Rolls

Egg Rolls

Fried Clams in Montreal

montreal is ethnically and culturally diverse already. maybe if the maine diaspora emigrated to montreal we'd have wooden clam shacks everywhere

Fried Clams in Montreal

montreal couldn't be any further culturally from new orleans and louisiana

Fried Clams in Montreal

there is no best place. i believe the place on top of grumpy's has fried clams but i've never heard anything good about that place. you should go to maine.

Myriad problems?

i seriously doubt it is a cost saving measure - the overhead on a few extra ounces of filter coffee probably don't amount to much when compared with their revenue. sept-june the place takes it in like a slot machine

Myriad problems?

Are you saying filtered coffees are now served in smaller mugs but the take away cups are the same size? That is quite odd. I read on Twitter that they recently lost some of their best baristas and are currently bringing up a new crop. I suppose this is also their downtime and I'd imagine most of the kinks to be worked out before it gets busy again. Anthony is surely not someone to jump the shark. I doubt it is tanking but I haven't been all summer.

Myriad problems?

what is the current price of a filter coffee?

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

looks like they reopen tonight at 5
i think i will order delivery today

Frustration with grocery chains in Montreal

i believe this happened 6 or 7 years ago. it was in the local media for sure. i remember reading about it/hearing it on the radio

In Canada, other than British Columbia, IGA is a group of independent grocers supplied by Sobeys, which franchises the name. Acquired by Sobeys as part of its purchase of The Oshawa Group Ltd., it now operates primarily in Quebec. The IGA operations in Atlantic Canada were sold to Loblaw Companies Limited and were restructured under its existing brands, while its company-owned stores west of Quebec now mainly operate under the Sobeys banner. In Ontario, Sobeys forced franchise owned IGA stores onto the Foodland program, and announced the upcoming closure of the IGA program in Ontario. There are, however, many IGA stores still operating in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.[2]
IGA Extra locations are larger and carry a wider variety of general merchandise, more akin to the hypermarket model. They include a pharmacy, large bakery, a bank, a bistro, a post office and a larger selection of food items.
In addition, IGA in Quebec also operates smaller supermarkets, such as Bonichoix and Tradition (a branding introduced in 1999).
In British Columbia, IGA and Marketplace IGA stores are, for the most part, independently owned and are supplied by the H. Y. Louie Co.[3

Fresh Atlantic seaweed for clambake?

it's not just quebec, it's all of canada - the beer selection is terrible coast to coast

also you cannot simply return to canada expecting to pay duty and tax on anything that accompanies you. there are limits which i do not know off hand.
