Are people getting nastier...

The place seems to be getting nastier just this week! Today alone I've seen posts where someone berated a girl for being privileged for being in college when she was frightened of a delivery guy, then someone called another person "gross" for not wanting to spend too much money. For this level of compassion, I could read Yahoo comments!

That being said, I'm leaving.

Etiquette question

If he puts that on everything, from now on you should just serve him broccoli or tofu. What's the point of having good food only to drown it in hot sauce? You can't taste the food!

Hilarious spoof on Williams Sonoma Catalog

"All I have in my pantry is flour and gum" made me laugh far more than it should!

I may be a great cook, but I refuse to...

Have you had deep fried turkey, though? It's lovely and moist! I actually prefer it now to oven roasted.

Oil & vinegar store in Durham

I don't know how to answer your first question. These aren't brand name bottles, it's literally a room full of urns of vinegars and oils and you fill up the bottle yourself. Not sure if you could find similar products in a grocery store. Sorry.

Oil & vinegar store in Durham

Little cups, yes. I've never even heard of a drinking vinegar, so I'm no help there. I paid $7 for 100mL of oil. It was maybe $13 for 250ml? The salt was $3 for a tube and $5 for a little container, but I can't remember the size. I didn't look at the vinegar prices, sorry. Vinegar's not my thing.

Oil & vinegar store in Durham

Has anyone checked out Blue Sky Oil & Vinegar? They just opened in Hope Valley Commons in Durham, although there's another location somewhere in Chapel Hill.

I went in yesterday & it's just vats of flavored oils & balsamic vinegars, plus some flavored salt. Seems incredibly specific, especially for that particular area, but it's nice! I got some blood orange oil and made some very yummy chicken!

Help planning an alfredo dinner! (Green bean, veggie questions)

Do you like tomatoes? I've been cooking green beans with Roma tomatoes since seeing a similar recipe on the Cooking Channel show 'Extra Virgin':

Is Rise in Southpoint worth the wait?

Looking at their Facebook page, I can't help but notice the prices. Are they really charging $2.50-$3 for a doughnut? Are they especially large or is this like the super-expensive cupcake trend?

Fake Copper???

I had to look up polishing copper with catsup as it sounded crazy. Favorite tip: "Discard the ketchup as it's inedible at this point."

Well...yeah!

Just tried jicama

Soooo, I've heard about jicama but never encountered it. Last week I found them in the supermarket near the garlic and ginger, and it wasn't terribly expensive.

I looked for recipes, but didn't find much other than "throw it in a salad". Tonight I decided to try tasting. Even raw, it's yummy! I'd heard it described as apple/potato, but it was just like a firm unsweet apple. Would probably be a nice side to pork.

Does anyone else use jicama? What do you do with it?

Raw honey in the Triangle area?

I wanted to try raw honey but don't know where to find local stuff that's not crazy expensive. The farmers market? A local grocery?

I live in Cary but work in Chapel Hill, so I'm not opposed to driving a bit.

Problems buying beef at Durham/Triangle area Harris Teeter lately?

Have you tried the store in Hope Valley Commons (1125 W NC Highway 54) in Durham? I go there a lot and it's not bad. You could also try the Super Target at Renaissance (I won't tell!)
