hello all - thank you for all the great advice. Our favorite place by far was the Boiler Room. Professional staff, great service, hip style, and good food. Some of the portions were small, but flavors were big. Compared to dinner the following night at Flatiron Cafe, we liked it much better and the value was WAY better. IMHO, this is the best restaurant in Omaha. Please support places like this.

Also had a shaky lunch at Dario's Brasserie, but a great Belgian beer. Finished the trip with a Sunday morning breakfast at Dixie Quick's. Funky place, food was pretty good.

Beer Corner was cool - went to Crescent Moon one night, and bought some great beers the next day at BeerTopia to take home.

All in all a great trip. Thanks again and come visit us in Kansas City!

I am taking a weekend food trip with a few people from Kansas City, and we are looking for the best of what Omaha has to offer. We want to eat where the locals eat.
We will be staying in the Old Market district. So...what are your favorite places? We are also looking for great, unique beer lists. Thanks for the advice!

Ok, we had a wonderful time in Des Moines. It was honestly a lot of fun. Our favorite meal was at Django. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. Lucca was good but didn't blow my socks off. Had a great sushi lunch at Miyabi 9 in the East Village. We also had a great last-day pizza lunch at Centro. They were super busy on a Sunday lunch, and the wood-fired oven made the whole place smell awesome.

The Red Monk was a cool spot, although the second night we went it was like a frat party in there, which killed the vibe. Great selection of rare, hard to find beers. We found a great bottle of wine at Sbrocco's wine shop that we took to dinner with us at Lucca. Good coffee at Java Joe's.

Overall, we had an awesome time. Thanks for the suggestions!

I am going this weekend the 12th - I will definitely let you all know how everything is. Thanks again for the advice.

Great - thanks for the tip. We will have to stop in and check out one of those. A cool side note - Raccoon River makes a Biere de Garde special for Django, from what I saw online. Thanks again, can't wait for the trip.

I am a Kansas City chef who loves good food and good beer. I am taking a weekend trip to Des Moines, and I would appreciate any good food recs.

Here is what I have found so far - Lucca, Django, Centro, Azalea. I also found some cool places for beer like the Royal Mile, Red Monk, el Bait Shop.

Am I missing something? And are these places good? I want to get a taste of what des moines has to offer. Thank you!

Best French KCMO

I took my wife out to Cafe des Amis last weekend and was very underwhelmed, even a bit disappointed. We trained at a french culinary school, and are always looking for nice, quaint little french places. Maybe it was an off night, but it was not anything special.
For the best french food, you can't beat the "uniqueness" of Le Fou Frog. Hands down, the best in the city, even if Mano does still smoke in the kitchen. What can I say, he's very french!

Blanc Burgers + Bottles- KC

Blanc apparently has a website up and running - I think. Came across it the other day.

Blanc Burgers + Bottles- KC

I find this review quite strange - the fries are $4 on the menu. Perhaps if you got 2 orders they would be $8.
